I remember watching Peter Jennings(he passed away in 05) on the news and thought to myself, “something is wrong with him” because he kept coughing and clearing his throat the same thing DMC does. I pray he is all right.

Asbury,I watched that special and his voice kept nagging me because I wanted to know what was wrong.I also remember Peter Jennings’s voice sounding the same.The first time I heard it I was thinking maybe he has a cold but as it continued to happen I knew something was up.Hopefully an answer will be provided.

I believe DMC used to be an alcoholic, that’s why he may sound like that, not completely certain about why he sounds that way. DMC sounds like that because he had a strain vocal cord several years ago. This was in an interview he did a couple of years ago. All of those years in Run Dmc he rapped in a higher pitch than his normal voice was supposed to be in. After several years it began to take its toll.
