In related news, Michael Richards has hired damage control specialist, Howard Rubenstein, to try to mend relations with the black community. According to the Associated Press, Rubenstein, has “strong ties to the black community,” whatever that means. Word is he set up calls with Rev. I personally don’t get tired of these posts. I think it is a very important issue to discuss. I just found out Monday night what a white girl whom I called a friend really thought. So I had to drop her ass like a bad habit. I wish I could have laid into her ass without getting arrested. Paul Mooney is hilarious. I think he has been blacklisted by the “mainstream” because of his independent streak. I just don’t see him working for some producers who will try to dictate what he says and how he says it. I’d love for HBO or something to pick him up because anything goes there and they have a reputation for letting you do what you do.
You know what I just thought about….Birds of a feather flock together. The Seinfield cast had to know he was racist. I enjoyed (past tense) watching Seinfield but I always wondered why they didn’t have black people on the show, at the grocery store or at the many parties the characters would attend.
I do however remember only two episodes that had black characters. Unfortanately one was making fun of Johnnie Cockrin (RIP) and the other episode was about a really light skinned black guy that you couldn’t tell was black.
Whenever I am around a white person and they start talking about race (even if it’s positive) it tells me that they are uncomfortable. Sometimes I want to tell them we can talk about more then race. We can talk about motherhood, our profession, hobbies, being a wife…none of that requires being black.

As for Paul Mooney, who is he to talk? Everyone is praising this man, but he’s borderline racist himself. He’s told plenty of jokes that have gone way over the line (most recently the BET awards a few years ago). I really can’t understand what everyone is so angry about. Why do we even care that Kramer exploded and shared his true feelings with the world? Paul Mooney has been the truth, and nothing but the truth for years. Young’uns got hip to him from Chappelle, but his comedy is some of the most intelligent, straightforward, observant, and brutally honest comedy out there, and he’s been puttin it down for a long time. He always leaves me laughing, and usually leaves me thinking, too. Whatever his sexuality is, it’s his business. I don’t care who he sleeps with, and it’s a non-issue.
On to Michael Richards. I’m not at all surprised at his racism. I’m telling my age here, but years and years and YEARS ago, ABC had a late-night comedy show a’ la ‘SNL’ called “Fridays”. Michael Richards was a featured player on that show. Admittedly, he was the funniest guy on there. He was positioned to be a breakout star. However…he self-destructed back then. The word back then was that he had a drug problem. I hadn’t seen him again until “Seinfeld”. Frankly, when i saw the rant, my first thought was “oh HELLL no !!”. My second thought was “he must be high”. I find it interesting that no one in the media has even mentioned his past.
Is his career over ? I hope so, but i wouldn’t be surprised if we see him again. Show business has always been racist, and Hollywood loves a comeback story. Mel’s new movie is being released, and ads are running on TV. Remember when everyone said the studio wasn’t going to stand behind him after his rant ? Mel isn’t out there promoting the film hard like he would’ve been, but the project went forward. I think if the film pulls the big bucks, Mel will be ‘forgiven’ to a degree, because it’s all about the bottom line. However, Michael Richards is no Mel Gibson.
