However, I do think that this incident points at a much bigger problem: civility and real knowledge of the bible within’ the black church and its constituents. Don’t knock those Scientologists too hard, because one thing they’re taught is how to challenge any other faith by pointing out “holes” in said faith’s belief system. Knowing F.A.M.E. It’s highly likely that Brandy and crew went to that bible study and asked them questions that they should have known how to answer but didn’t…and in frustration they turned to violence. And that’s just sad.

If you don’t know how to defend your faith with words, the best way to admit defeat is through violence.

Erm, and I don’t know about you guys–and maybe this has changed since the last time I went to church–but I thought the POINT of Bible Study was to ask questions? Why is everyone upset that Brandy went there to ask questions? At my family’s home church, Wednesday bible studies had the church members split up into smaller groups with the pastor and his bishops for a more intimate reading of the Word. And questions in this setting were more than welcome.

Heck, the church might be a different entity today if people started asking these guys they put in charge of their faith MORE questions….just sayin’

Not even addressing Brandy (b/c this is just a RUMOR), but Pittboi you have a point. From my experience with going to different services, the thing is there are usually two schools of thought in some churches. You either take the word as gospel or you question the word. A lot of folks don’t like when people question the Bible because it comes off as not haivng faith. On the other hand, some questions have no answers so you are striclty going on faith alone. It just depends on the level of communication that church leader has with their congregation. If he/she is open then there should be no issue with someone who questions the Word. Just depends.

Religion is nothing but legalized “pimping,” and none do it better than the black churches. There is nothing about religion in anyone of the over 100 versions of the bible.
I think you can believe in a God and be spiritual without all the capitalism and discrimination(church-to-church). One would be better off, selecting a bible and studying it yourself, and their are bible dictionaries to assist you.
This way you wouldn’t have to be robbed of your money, or be exposed to so many of these clown who are sleeping with men, women, or both, within their congreagations.

When Jesus went to the temple and saw that the church people had started to use the church as a market place, the bible tells us that Jesus got very angry, and that Jesus started to throw people out of the church.

A lot of people have the strange misconception that since people are Christians and they go to church, there are weak and won’t fight you, or that they won’t defend their faith.
That is such an unfortunate way to think of Christians.

Allow me to relate to you a biblical parable:
Jesus employed a man by the name of Peter.
Peter was known as a Fisherman, who would often curse and do things that most people would consider ungodly.
At one point in Jesus’ ministry, someone attempted to do harm to Jesus Christ. Peter pulled his sword out and cut that man’s ear off. Jesus did not rebuke Peter for doing that. He (Jesus) simply put the soldier’s ear back on his head (Jesus healed the solider who attempted to do harm to him). My point of stating that particular parable is to relate to the readers that Jesus still dealt with Peter even though Peter was very likely of cutting someone…

So, that said, If Ms. Brandy Norwood interrupted FAME’s services in a confrontational manner, then YES she should have been beat up & beat down.

If you come to my church, and tried that, you would get beat up also!

Bible study is a time to ask questions: At my church’s Bible study and MOST bible study’s the Pastor and/or Bishop will open up the floor and answer questions.

The Bible tells us to study to “STUDY to show thyself approval, a workman would is NOT ashamed” and also “to always be ready to answer questions”.

I often debate with Jehovah Witnesses or People of the Islamic Faith, about Christian tenets.

I have NO problem speaking with ANYONE regarding biblical issues. I can defend my faith,
And I WILL defend my faith to DEATH.

Most time, when debating with individuals from other religions, I don’t get into fights because most people understand boundaries, and issues of respect.
As long as you don’t use My Lord’s name in vane, Call me out of my name, or put you hands on me, everything is copacetic.

Most people understand the basic rules of debate.
We usually agree to disagree. As long as you don’t disrespect me, everything is cool.

See….Once you come at a person in a confrontational manner, that person will start to question your sanity, and their own safety.

It doesn’t sound like she genuinely came to bible study to ask a legitimate question.

I was reading a couple of posts and it was bought up that the church always get mad if they don’t have an answer to someone’s question. I don’t know about other churches but the churches I have attended in my days never acted like that. If my pastor didn’t know something, he would simply say “I don’t know but I will be more than glad to find out for you.” Give it a rest people. I don’t care what religion you practice. I have enough respect and reverence not to come into your “house of worship” and act the way Brandy, suppposedly, did.

If there’s one thing the story does indicate, it’s that IF Brandy indeed got “ghetto” the church did right along with her, and that’s not right. If Brandy was indeed the one acting a fool then the church should have asked her to leave and called the police if she refused. That would have been the proper way to do things, but leave it to the black church to bring the ways of the world into God’s house.

There’s a difference between defending your faith and being above foolishness, and taking yourself down to the level of foolishness. I think what happened was the latter.

And another thing: since when have debates been disrespectful? Call this for what it is: Brandy’s crew called F.A.M.E. out and they didn’t know how to handle it. And frankly, if you can’t defend your own faith without resorting to violence, then maybe you shouldn’t be running a bible study.

It’s not just about taking rich people’s money, a lot of people find genuine relief and spiritual growth in Scientology. I dunno whether to believe this or not. I know if it was something serious there would have been police reports filed. Besides, does Brandy look like the fighting type? Nahhhhh.

If this did happen, it all depends on how Brandy and her posse approached the people at the F.A.M.E church. Yes, in a house of God you should be able to ask questions. That’s why I stopped going to catholic church: it was all repeat this, stand up, kneel down, pray, hug your neighbor, hear the gospel, and leave. I had a chance to asks questions when I was little in Sunday school, but now I have deeper and more complex questions, and I felt that in this particular church, they were not being answered. However, it also depends how you ASK THE QUESTION. If you’re gonna be all HOOD and have a bad attitude and try to impose your beliefs on others in a pretentious manner, then your ass should be kicked out.

Sarcasm from my working there in early 2000 as I noted before from what I saw it the mission and concept is that it is all in your mind.

Everything is about your mind and how the brain works. Believe what you want to believe but don’t discredit scientology. They had detox programs, rock counting programs, and a constantly blatant selling of the book to educate ppl from the cult- oops I mean religious leader L. Ron Hubbard. At the center where I briefly worked each member was given an address list to mail out to ppl weekly to get them to come to meetings and join scientology. I somehow got put on this list for mailing and when I quit working there they began to send me mail every week trying to get me to come down. Their policy was if I relpy and tell them to take me off of their list I would stop recieving the solicitations. Honey I called, wrote, and demanded that they take me off of the list. It’s been seven years and I have moved atleast 2-3 times and they always somehow get my address and solicit me. I can not figure that one out for the life of me but they are a very persistent religion. Oh yeah and they are insanely happy ALL the time. I never figured that one out either. They have holistic programs for detox and yoga and what not set up in their centers and a constant taping of infomercials in their lobbies from celeb scientologist encouraging ppl to join.

i agree with this and believe me I pray that the eyes of all saints can be open to a world that wants answers. I won’t say I have all of the answers to everyones questions. But if I can’t answer you it is my policy to find out what the word says about it and if maybe there IS someone that might be able to answer that question to point you in their direction. That’s how I approach things IRL. Also I’m not God I’m only an ambassador I can only do what I can. So instead of criticizing a whole group of ppl based off of a bad response or experience that you’ve had before, try again and pray for someone to be able to answer the questions that you have to cut out the foolishness.

If this is true, IMO keyword “my” I don’t understand why she went there to question the bible of Christians. That doesn’t make sense to me, I read my bible and I believe in my bible. I wouldn’t question another religion’s bible because I believe what I’ve been taught is right. Therefore what other religions teach or preach about is irrelevant to me. But, if I had a question about my bible I’d ask my pastor. If she in fact did this, that’s like me going to a scientology church in the middle of one of their meetings and questioning them about their bible, when my beliefs are elsewhere.

Honestly the bible can be interpreted in so many different ways, you could go to 50 Christian churches and ask about the same scripture and more than likely get different answers.

Nonetheless, this is the bottom line for me: People should be free to believe what they want. God (if you beleive in God) created us to be free-minded and has or shows no preference. Therefore, no one religion trumps the other. If you believe in your faith, then you should never let “Man” shake that faith. Man is only a vessel, not the water on which it flows. Equally, you should never try to force or convert someone else because a believer is a believer. Man cannot change that either.

I seriously think if people across the globe would stop acting like their religion is more favored (i.e. Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, etc) we could all live a little more peacably. I have yet to hear of anyone coming back from the afterlife and proving that what their “God” said was right. Each Spiritual Book has validity. None is flawless. Having said that, a little respect for the next man goes a long way. Perhaps we should be trying to find better ways to live in peace than rather than how to survive during war — religious or otherwise.

Or are you scared that you might read some scriptures where the Lord expounds on qualities other than the “love” that you like to speak on (Ex 15:3, Mal 1:2-4, etc.)?

*A spokesperson for Brandy called EUR’s Lee Bailey to set the record straight about entertainment journalist Jawn Murray’s report regarding Brandy and a Bible study brawl.

As previously reported, Murray told the Tom Joyner Morning Show that the R&B singer had just left a Scientology meeting before attending the class at First A.M.E. church in Los Angeles. According to Murray, Brandy was challenging some of the principles of Christianity, and a fight suddenly broke out after one question too many. And after chairs and curse words were thrown, Brandy and her crew were escorted out of the church.

According to Brandy’s rep Courtney Barnes, “the whole middle portion of the story is bullsh*t.” He says that the ruckus Murray referred to in his story involved a mentally-ill person at the church who had tried to cause trouble with “a person who had come in with Brandy.”

Here is Barnes’ account, verbatim, to Lee Bailey.

BARNES: Brandy did not come to the church from a Scientology meeting. She was invited to the church by a member of the church to attend a Bible study. She did so because she’s very interested in religion.

There was not a fight that broke out between Brandy and her friends. The Bible study went on as normal and there were questions being asked back and forth. The Bible study ended, and the person who was conducting the Bible study asked the congregation to bow their heads and pray.

There was a mentally ill person who was in the back of the room where the Bible study was taking place. That person was seated next to a person who came to the Bible study with Brandy, but was not seated next to [Brandy]. That person was clearly – by all accounts, by the person who was seated there and all the people in the church – a mentally-ill person. And that person had an episode and he tried to basically cause a fight with the person who had come in with Brandy.

The person who had come in with Brandy, recognizing that the person was mentally-ill, called upon the elders of the church to come and get this person under control. In the course of them doing so, a ruckus was caused. They ended up escorting that person out of the church.

After that was over, they continued to pray. At that point, the session was over and everyone involved with the session left.
