I agree and completely understand most people when they say they preferred the old Monica - Even 14 year-old Monica. First off, that was NO average 14-year-old. I’m 27, a year older than she is now, and I have been a fan since age 15, when she dropped. Songs like, ‘Before You Walk Out of My Life’, and Just One of Dem Days, still apply to my 27-year-old self. Even the ‘Boy is Mine’ album had more substance and meaning. ‘Angel of Mine’, Take Him Back, the song with Outkast - ‘Gone Be Fine’. She was only 18 then. But those were some real songs, that any woman could listen to, relate with and appreciate.

Monica just wants to only show her ghetto side now. Which I don’t even think that’s whta she’s accomplishing. White boys from the burbs like Gold teeth hand tattoos. Those things come with the territory, but that’s not all ‘Ghetto’ is about. It’s coming form a certain way of life, a culture, that can be discouraging, progressing and succeeding in spite of it, and maintaining the earthiness and sense of self it provided you with.

I think Monica could do all these things w/o dumbing herself down the way she is doing. After reading all the posts, I have to add Monica IS ghetto. She was classed up by her label and I don’t mean that to say she doesn’t have any, she’s just never been the R&B princess chick you think. (That would be Ashanti or Amerie.) Monica keeps a gangsta boyfriend, and she lives a regular ATL chick life despite her celebrity. So what you are seeing is not an act, that’s really her. It’s kind of like finding out that pop princess Britney really is trailer trash. Just because folks dress you up and style you and image you, doesn’t mean that’s really YOU.
As for those who think the video and song are beneath her, I have to agree. I feel like I’ve seen MONICA herself make that video before. This is one sister who’s vocal talent is underrated, she can sing and her last album showcased her voice. I co-sign TOTALLY! I’m telling yall, this album is NOT all that! If this is the second single, why r they playing “Sideline Ho” down here like it’s going out of style! I can’t stand that song and don’t understand why they play it with the “HO” still in it. Ertime it comes on, I have to change the station cuz I don’t wanna hear it nor do I want my kids to be listening to it either. Anyway, this song is alrite but I wouldn’t buy the CD. Just not TOP quality to IMO!

Monica has always been skinny, so I don’t know why thats such a big deal to everyone. She looked really pretty, and besides the tattoos, I didn’t really see anything wrong with her body in the vid..maybe it’s because I’m thin too..Her and Letoya Luckett are pretty much shaped alike except that Letoya is bigger up top..
