Rihanna has upgraded herself tremendously this year. We remember when she first hit the scene as a cute little island girl. Now she’s a certified sexy young lady getting love from everyone. Already scoring a Cover Girl contract and wearing exclusive designs from Dolce & Gabbana, she’s on her way to becoming Hollywood’s next big thing.

UPGRADE OF ‘06 (MALE) - NICK CANNON

Nick Cannon may have left Nickelodeon, but he still dressed like a boy in 2005. This year, with his applauded performance in the movie ‘Bobby’ Nick not only stepped up his acting game, but his dress game as well. He definitely is following the steps of Will Smith with his career and mature look.

FASHIONISTA OF ‘06 - TRACEE ELLIS ROSS

Tracee’s graceful poise reminds me of her Mother’s same poise back during The Supremes era. Tracee won us over with her beautiful feature in Vibe Vixen magazine and the actress was all over town during the Spring/Summer fashion shows this fall. Of course, she always has to stay current with a chic and sophisticated look.

Kerry is very underrated in the media when it comes her style, which is a bit shocking. This actress has managed to look flawless everytime she stepped out on the red carpet this year and in 2007, it will only get better.

If there is one Black man in Hollywood who knows how to dress for an event, its definitely Diddy. His taste and selection in clothing and jewelry has always been and will continue to be on point. Combs never does too much or too little when he hits the red carpet, everything is just right.

06’s BEST DRESSED COUPLE - BEYONCE & JAY-Z

Hate them or love them, but lets face the facts: Jay-Z was named GQ man of the year, and Beyonce’s clothing line is unstoppable this season. The streets love them and Hollywood does just as much. When these two megastars hit the carpet, cameras are flashing nonstop and they both are undoubtably looking fly from head to toe.

06’s LOGO LOVER - KANYE WEST

Kanye’s fresh style will always gain attention, which should serve as a note for designers. From wearing a logo YSL tee at the 2006 VMAs to flashing a Fendi logo on his head last month, this rapper loves to flash names. Lucky for the designers he’s wearing, it generates dollars because the LRG hoodie he rocked at Stella McCartney’s show this fall is selling out everywhere.

We remember Kelis as the fiery red-head during Tasty era. Now with her new cd this year, she opted for a funky haircut that had girls left and right looking for a barber to shave something on the side of their heads.

Another haircut that shocked some this year - Luda finally let go of those cornrows for a more cleaner look and may I say he looks very handsome with it.

These two sistas are not only doing it big on the screens, but on the red carpets! How could we forget how gorgeous these two looked together at the Nina Ricci fashion show gala in April?

06’s GROWN & SEXY - KELLY ROWLAND

After the end of Destiny’s Child in 2005, Kelly stepped up to the plate and established herself away from being “that other girl beside Beyonce”. She has grown into a very gorgeous, sexy and fashionable young woman.

06’s HUGEST TRENDSETTER - NAS

In this case, the eighties ain’t dead. Nas has always been fly but with a new album this year, came more appearances and more rope chains. Nas definitely was a trendsetter this year by putting the 80s style back on the scene for the males to get into. I wonder if thats who Kelis consulted before getting her 80s style haircut…

06’s HIP HOP DIVA - FOXY

For Foxy to have so much drama going on around her, I wonder how she found time to find McQueen & Furstenberg dresses. However she did it, Brown made sure to stay fresh from head to toe this year everytime she hit the court room or the streets.

06’s HIP HOP DON - LIL WAYNE

I really didn’t know guys out there digged Lil Wayne’s style. It was most evident when everybody was all over the BAPE hoodie he rocked in the “Hustler Musik” video (and he had the nerve to dis Pharrell?). I will say Wayne has established his signature look this year with the chains hanging from ripped jeans. Lil Wayne even has his own homeboy shirt…go DJ.

06’s IN A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN (FEMALE) - REMY

I hate to call something tacky or plain ugly, so I just call it different. Remy has her very own different style - from the blonde and black hair, to her outfit selections. When you see Remy Ma, you will definitely remember her.

06’s IN A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN (MALE) - TERRENCE HOWARD

Terrence has what I like to call “Uncle Leroy” syndrome. He tries to be different with his style and thinks its the flyest thing out there while he’s going around showing everybody, but the family is just left confused. Take for instance the vest he wore at the “Idlewild” premiere and the infamous manclutch and he carried at the 2006 oscars. Yep, he really is in a league of his own.

Again this is based on popular opinion and comments, feel free to disagree because there were alot of fashion highs & lows this year. In the meantime, have a great New Year’s Eve everyone!

I agree with veesky. Lil Wayne stole the BAPE style from Pharrell, then he decided to bite Dipset with the whole thermal shirt with tight jeans and chain look. I just have a couple of thoughts…..well as far as the trendsetting award, what trend did nas set?….If its the big Dookie chains, Pharrell was the FIRST i seen do that back at the 2005 MTV awards. 2. Kanye CANNOT dress he just has confidence in the bullsh*t he wears so people think whatever he has on must be hot. 3. Lil wayne is an amazing rapper but his Clownage is at an all time high right now..he clearly dissed Pharrell and claims he doesn’t know who he is yet is giving him more money by wearing Ice Cream…what a Goon!
