Since 2006 is winding down, I thought it would be dope to do a few posts with a top 10 lists of random topics of the year. First up, CL’s Top 10 popular couples of 2006.
After looking and laughing through every post we made this year, I compiled some of your favorite or in some cases, least favorite couples of the year. We really only have like 20 couples in black hollywood anyway, but that’s another post. Now on to the list!!
#1: JAY-Z & BEYONCE
Hate it or Love, Jayonce was heavliy talked about this year. Whether it was those bogus wedding rumors that were circulating the net, or those random beach-side & court-side candids that you love us for. We made sure to post about it. You all know you secretly love seeing these two anyway! Those comments speak a 1000 words.
#2: JERMAINE & JANET
Yep, J&J came in 2nd place for 2006. We posted candids, event shots, and more of these two. Not to mention, all the TMI posts with Janet talking about how good a lover Jermaine is. He got her ass sprung out on his shit. I ain’t mad at cha Jermaine!
#3: RUSSELL SIMMONS & KIMORA
They supposedly broke it off back in June, but since that announcement
they have been seen together at numerous events and in candid shots.
Nevertheless, they were very popular this year.
#4: NAS & KELIS
Awww one of my favorite celebrity couples came in 4th. Everyone loves this couple because they geniunely look happy to be with each other. Everytime I see them I just smile. Yeah I know I sound corny as hell, but I ain’t lying.
#5: DIDDY & KIM PORTER
Some people went crazy over these two this year. Even though Diddy publicly announced that he will NEVER marry Kim, she is still popping out children for him. I guess those monthly checks will make up for all the stress. Good luck with the twin girls!
#6: HALLE BERRY & GABRIEL AUBRY
For some odd reason we kept posting up boring candids of Halle Berry and her boo Gabriel up on the site. I’m actually surprised I didn’t get complaints about the amount of candids we posted of the two. Don’t get me wrong they are a cute couple, but BORING AS HELL.
#7: STAR JONES & AL REYNOLDS
StALe was actually kind of popular earlier this year and but they fell off something awful. Ever since she got the boot from ‘The View,’ her celebrity star has died down. I’m pretty sure she will grow tired of playing Al’s beard and get it together.
#8: ICE-T & COCO
These two were kind of popular this year. We even posted up a few candids of them and you guys ate them up. I saw Coco on Jamie Kennedy’s MTV show and she seemed like she had Ice-T’s business end flowing together pretty well. We all know they ain’t having no problems in the bedroom..
#9: KANYE WEST & ALEXIS
Even though Kanye’s sexuality is up for debate (yeah I said it!!), he has been out and about with his fiance Alexis for a few months now. After looking at all the posts, I noticed that they only go shopping or attend fashion events when they go out. Whatever floats their boat, I guess.
#10: NELLY & ASHANTI
I hate to say it, but I love these two together. Kinda like Kelis & Nas, I think they have something. I heard they have been engaged for awhile, nevertheless they were semi-popular on CL this year. That’s BANANAS, huh Ashanti?
HONORABLE MENTIONS
DARREN SHARPER & GABRIELLE UNION
We all fell in love (or hate LOL) with this couple back in May when they were spotted at the Kentucky Derby, but we haven’t seen them out in public since. I heard they are still an item, but Gabby is keeping his fine-ass on lock down. I ain’t mad at you girl!! I would be doing the same thing!
WILL & JADA
Believe it or not, we really didn’t post that many Will & Jada pictures this year. We all love them as a couple, but Jada was the real star on the blog. I know yall remember all those pictures we posted of her in rock-mode. Please make sure to look out for her on the next list..
FLAV & DEELISHIS /// T.I. & TINY
-Everytime we made a post about Flav & Deelishis most of yall commented like crazy. But since they aren’t really a “real” couple they didn’t make the cut.
- T.I. & Tiny had drama earlier this year with that whole Hoopz thing. But they eventually worked everything out and that’s always good to hear.
NOW FOR THE COUPLES WE COULDN’T CARE LESS ABOUT!
These couples were either boring, annoying, or worse. Therefore most of us really didn’t care about them this year. Who knows about next year though..
CHRISTINA MILIAN & DRE /// KEYSHIA COLE & YOUNG JEEZY
1. BORING! I liked her better with Nick, but Dre is probably a stand-up guy.
2. Rumors about these two have been around for awhile. Everyone knows your dating, (word is Keyshia already got a tat), so why hide? Or do we really care?
TYRA & UNIDENTIFIED BOYFRIEND /// RODNEY & CAMILE
3.Tyra has been dating a lot this year, but recently she was seen with this middle-aged dude. Maybe she finally found the one. Maybe we don’t care..
4. Earlier this year I called them a ‘Z-List Couple’ and I was right. I don’t even know if they are still dating or not. But like I said, I don’t really care.
BIG GIPP & TAMALA JONES /// NICK CANNON & KIM KARDASHIAN
5. Yall straight clowned this couple back when I made a post about them. Do you Tamala.

I like Carmelo and LaLa….why are they boring…because they don’t get paparazzi shooting them on beach vacations? They seem like a nice young couple. I mean a brother gotta work playing ball I guess they can’t party all the time like Bigga.
I love Bigga, they do everything I would do with a man…if I was hooked up! They love the beach, they love a good party, and they travel all over the world. I love that.
I think Will and Jada should move up too, since they are one of few married with children couples on the list. They are so down for family and that’s really nice to see.
Nas and Kelis – I still don’t get them. They just seem so different. But if it works for them, more power to them.
Ashanti and Nelly – That’s the dull couple to me.
Halle and Gabriel – Why do the paparazzi follow her? I mean I’m not mad because I love Halle and I like seeing her casual gear since it’s always on point…but they never catch her doing anything. I guess paparazzi just like pretty women.

My two favorite couples are Nas & Kelis and Nelly & Ashanti. I don’t know, I think these two couples have a real love thing happening, looking at their pictures I feel that it’s not all about the hype for them, like if they weren’t stars/celebrities and met each other on the street, they still would have hit it off.
Beyonce and Jay-Z have been together for a long time now (over 5 years) so I think they’re real, too, but their relationship is too publicized for me.
