The ad campaign, created by the Uniworld Group-Detroit, will kick off at Kelis’ Dec. 18 celebrity holiday party at New York’s Capitale nightclub and include radio, TV, and print advertising. Ford will give partygoers a glimpse of the campaign.
The radio spot features a song that Kelis (pronounced “Kuh-Leese”) wrote specifically for the campaign entitled “Push it to the Edge” that will begin airing on Dec. 20. The radio spot features a cameo introduction of Kelis and her song from Ford spokesperson and hip-hop DJ Funkmaster Flex. The spot will run on national syndicated radio shows like The Steve Harvey Morning and The Tom Joyner Morning Show. Kelis is also scheduled to participate in various Edge sweepstakes giveaways on the radio shows beginning in February.
The television commercial, entitled “On the Edge,” will feature Kelis and the “Push it to the Edge” track. It will begin airing in late December on major network stations throughout the country.
The print ad campaign for the Ford Edge Kelis campaign, entitled “Shattered,” will run in major urban publications such as Jet, Ebony, Upscale and Sister2Sister magazine.
The Kelis campaign also includes special appearances and event tie-ins in key markets.

Kelis, like many other artists who go unrecognized, has MAD TALENT!! AND I LOVE HER! I dont mean to seem like I am on her T.E.A.M. all like dat! (lol) ‘cuz really I am….Thats my girl! And I’m really feelin’ her; but many dont. A lot of other musically talented artists, such as India Arie, Alicia Keys, Anthony Hamilton, John Legend, Life (who I might say is one VERY TALENTED MAN)the list could go on and on, are overlooked b/c the majority of the public [music] may not feel the artist measures up to the Beyonce’s or the Jay-Z’s of the music world. But it just simply isnt true. I absolutely LOVE music. All different types. But some of these popular artists and their music doesnt MOVE me. I mean it’s catchy and the beats be hittin’….but are they really singing about something that “I” and many other people can really relate to? Something about Anthony Hamilton’s voice jus makes me go into a zone as soon as I hear it. Same wit’ Mary J Blige, Life and Jill Scott, etc. I think it’s sort of a shame that many of them dont get the “credit” (as someone else mentioned above) they are most definitely due!!! But hey, who am I…? No one. I’m just one person who makes up the small percentage of music listeners that may feel the way I do. It’s messed up that beautiful artist such as Kelis have to leave the country, as Michael Jackson & Tina Turner also did, to make money and receive the fan support they are so deserving of.

Why do marketers feel like the only way to reach black people is to add a musician or some music to the ads? Kelis has zero affect on what kind of car I buy. Safety, appearance, gas mileage, etc. matter. That car is NOT cute, but she looks good.
