Synopsis: After the death of his brother, an expert street dancer goes to Georgia to attend Truth University. But his efforts to get an education and woo the girl he likes are sidelined when he joins in his fraternity’s effort to win a step dancing competition.
This movie stars newcomer Columbus Short (currently on Studio 60), Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, and Megan Good.
It will be in theaters sometime next year..

Hello All,
I do not normally support black movies just because they are black because all movies should be treated the same and I do NOT like to have my time or money wasted. With that said, this movie was actually good. I grew up in the South where black fraternity life is huge so I have a lot of respect for Greek life.
I know who this director is and I was really worried about him making a movie about black people and black Greek life. If you do not know, he is French and American and grew up between France and the States. He has spent years working on videos by well-known rappers and singers (which you can imagine is difficult at times), a few independent films and some small movies that Sony gave him. He has worked extremely hard to reach this point where he can make a movie like this by taking on smaller projects. He visited all over the South and East to learn and absorb as much as possible for this movie. He spent months arguing with the (white) movie heads about the movie’s realism. In some battles he won and others he lost. Once you see the movie you should be able to tell.
I have been to two pre-screenings and the first time I saw it, I was anticipating something average and U Got Served/Drumline/Save the last dance/every other dance movie. I was also expecting something with gangs (much like in the Alpha letter), violence and cursing and your usual “sambo” acting. I was extremely shocked to see that he came up with something of this caliber. I mean the dude spent a large part of his life in another country and his movie was better than most black movies I have seen. I think this helped the movie more than anything else. I was over black films because I was tired of wasting my time. He has renewed my faith in black directors and films.
I will admit that I am not expecting a Golden Globe or Oscar but I think all you who are jumping the gun will be surprised should you see the movie. I really hope you change your minds because I hate to see this one slip under the radar. This director is one of the most creative movie makers I have come across and I want this movie to do well so that he can take his vision to the next level and Sony will trust that he will do something phenomenal with a picture with better actors, a larger budget and better script. He took this cheesy script that was written by a white non-affiliated-with-black-Greek-life person and made it entertaining and worth watching. Let me tell you, it took a lot of going back and forth with the movie heads to get this movie to what it is now so at least give it the credit of seeing matinee.
As far as the bootleg, and like all, I have downloaded music and watched bootlegged films, but at least go see the matinee. I want us as a people to have people of color in power in the movie business. I do not want to start seeing Spielberg or Michael Bay’s interpretation of how a black movie should be (ever see Hollywood Shuffle?) because they are more famous and known for making good movies. And you know that the higher up (mainly white) movie heads only see dollar signs so the more money the movie makes, the more money they trust in a black director’s hands for future projects. How do you think these big time producers and directors made it to where they are? They produced numbers! If you still think it will be garbage, then you have a right to not go see it. But at least keep your ear out as far as the reviews and if you hear that it is good, go see it and give it a chance.
In conclusion (and I know this sounds like I’m writing a paper) do not wrap this movie up to be just like some other movie yet. At least wait until it comes out and has reviews from actual black people and Greek people who have seen the movie.
I wish Meagan good would get a movie role that steps outside her box, She always plays the young love interest Damn challenge the girl a little! Make her earn that money.

I’m not greek but everyone in my fam is so I was interested in seeing this movie when i first heard about it a few months back. I read where someone said something about what is the purpose of joining a frat or a sorority…if thats the case, “what is the purpose of joining any club, church or anything”. You can’t down something you know nothing about. Alot of greeks do alot of good things for the community. They praved the way for alot of african americans. They are build off of brother and sisterhood. Greeks are cool…anyway! Back to the movie. Chris Brown plays Short’s younger brother. There is this huge dance competiton and things get heated. A fight breaks out. Chris Brown gets killed, I believe someone hits him in the head with a brick (wow). Short either has to go to jail or college (come on now, jail or college lol) and he chooses school. He’s from the north and if you’re greek and you stay in the south u already know how stepping can be at HBCUs. Neyo is his room mate, he introduces him to stepping. Short see’s that the closest thing there to a dance team. Plus he likes Meagan Good and tries to win her over by winning a step show. HAHAHAHA WHOMP! I’m gonna go see it though. Alot of ppl are because of Chris Brown and Neyo. LOL I have nothing against Meagan Good. She seems like she could be cool. Her roles are kinda typical but u do whatever u gotta do to get paid. I can see this movie getting a C
I think everyone should at least give the movie a chance and I know they will.For one…there are too many greeks in this world, those who want to be greek, and those who want a better understanding of greek life who are gona want to see how each organization is being portrayed in this movie. That alone will bring in the money. I for one am very glad that Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc!!!! is in this movie and being represented and if the director took the necessary time to create this movie I’m sure everyone is represented tastefully. I’m on the fence about this movie. As a member of a step team who works very hard to keep STEPPING alive as opposed to glorified dance routines with some stomps thrown in, I have concerns. Yes it’s all for Hollywood and Tv but those who have competed in or seen a real step show understand what I am talking about. By all means your show should be entertaining and intriguing and complex, but 8 minutes dancing of a 15 minute routine is not cute and it’s not stepping. So for anyone who is non-Greek and has never seen a step show, please don’t go to a “real” show expecting it to be exactly like the movie.
In the end I probably will support the film, but all the while making my critiques about what’s going on and what’s real.
I’ll probably see Stomp The Yard, however, I’m a little spec as to how Greek life is presented in the movie. I’ll just have to see it for myself. My concerns sit with TonyP’s in the commercializing of Black Greek letter organizations and their futures. I believe that while highlighting our Greek organizations and giving them some shine is terrific, there may be negative effects as well. It’s a trade off. I only hope that people become interested in going to college above it all. I also hope that Black fraternities and sororities grow to be respected by young people for their uniqueness and rich histories in African American progression. The journey of the organizations (in general) is special to our Black community. Hey, do some research and see. Personally, I’d like to see Black colleges’ numbers sky rocket due to inspired Black youth…wouldn’t that be nice? And I totally understand that in the movie the extra flash and battling is for entertainment/crowd appeal and I’m cool with that. I just hope a positive message comes out as a result.

I think the movie would be better if Chris Brown was in it the whole time, but why does he have to die in it? As we all know he is on the OC at 9:00 on channel 50 every thursday, but he plays a geeky band member, I would love to watch him through out the whole movie cause he has some nice ass dance moves, and is very cute too, like a teenage crush all over again, like the Backstreet boys and N’ Sync, but they were never in a movie, and Im sure all the girls can agree with me, it’s gonna be tough seeing him die in this movie, I know personally when I go see it Friday with my man I will cry!! Why? alot of people are gonna say it sucks just cause he dies, Im just going to see it cause he’s in it, but I dont think he should die in this movie, they would’ve made a whole lot more from this movie if he didn’t!!
