TAYE DIGGS: “YOU CAN’T MAKE EVERYBODY HAPPY..”

Monday, December 18, 2006 |

Taye Diggs and wife Idina Menzel back in April

Last week, Taye Diggs’ TV series “Daybreak,” was cancelled due to low ratings. Rumor has it that African-American women refused to support the series because Diggs’ love interest wasn’t black. Their lack of support was instrumental in the numbers being down and the show getting the boot.

Well I actually watched “Day Break” and it wasn’t all that to tell you the truth. Just like one of the people said in the interview, Taye Diggs is corny as hell and I could care less who he is married to. Maybe the show sucked, and deserved to be cancelled. I’ve seen better shows get the boot.

Anyway….

Last month he sat down with Rolling Out magazine to talk about why black woman are more accepting of the “Will Smith” & “Denzel” types:

“What [black women] were happy about was that [Mendes’ character in Hitch] wasn’t white; she was Latina,” Diggs explains when asked why Will Smith’s role in the film didn’t draw as much cultural ire as some of the choices he’s made on- and off-screen. “That’s what they were happy about, if we’re gonna be real. That’s how the scale goes. First off, if it’s a dark brother and the dark brother isn’t with a dark sister that causes issues. … After that, if you’re going to date outside the race, then they go down the list of how poorly other minorities have been treated after blacks. [So] after that, you have Latino. … Like, I’ve had people say that about my wife: ‘At least she looks Spanish.’ Like that makes it a little bit better. So that’s why people accepted it. If Will Smith had been with a lily-white woman, it would’ve been a completely different situation in the black community as far as females are concerned. I guarantee you that.” [SOURCE]

Here is when he got a little attitude when the interviewer asked him about his white wife:

REPLACEMENT GIRL!

Sunday, December 17, 2006 |

drake.jpg

Sometime during the summer, I posted up some tracks from a young man by the name of Drake. If you don’t remember him from then, his face may be familiar to you from the hit show Degrassi (he plays Jimmy). Either way, Drake’s a man of many talents, already proving himself in the acting world, and now as a lyricist, including collaborations with The Clipse, Lupe Fiasco and many other industry heavy weights. Drake is back with a new single with Trey Songz (which he recently recorded here in Atlanta) and an album is in the works.

Drake feat. Trey Songz - Replacement Girl (full) - download / alternate

Be sure to check out Drake on MySpace and show my homeboy some love because he’s always on CL! Can’t wait for the release of his upcoming album, it’s been a long time coming.

STYLIN: GOLDEN LOCKS

Sunday, December 17, 2006 |

Our stylin’ feature will take a closer look into the latest trends in hair, makeup, and accessories within Black Hollywood.

When it comes to black women, its safe to say that most of us like to take risks when it comes to our locks. This ranges from just simply getting a relaxer, or the lengthy process of going from a relaxer to natural, or rocking the most outrageous hairstyle out of the salon, or perhaps the hottest dye job out of the salon. One fun color many sistas - famous or not - like to try is blonde.

Black women in entertainment especially like to try this color and its not just in our day and time. This trend stems back to the 1960s when singers Etta James and Mary Wells sported golden locks on tours to most recently, where singers Kelis and Fantasia traded in their black for the blonde fever. Some stars have looked gorgeous and stuck with golden locks, while others were close to disasters…
