RUMOR: QUEEN LATIFAH BROKE IT OFF WITH “TRAINER”?

Wednesday, December 13, 2006

queen1.jpg
(MORE PICS OF THE TWO: PIC 1 | PIC 2)

Speculation about Queen Latifah’s sexual orientation has been running in and out of Black Hollywood for years. Mostly because of her convincing portrayal of a lesbian in the 1996 movie “Set It Off.” Plus, she has never spoke out publicly about any of her past relationships..

Latifah responded to gay rumors in her 1999 autobiography by saying:

“It’s insulting when someone asks, ‘Are you gay?’ A woman cannot be strong, outspoken, competent at running her own business, handle herself physically, play a very convincing role in a movie, know what she wants—and go for it—without being gay? Come on.” (wikipedia)

queen1.jpgWell my inbox has been flooded with tips and links about this recent rumor involving the star.

Word has it that Queen Latifah and her rumored girlfriend, Jeanette Jenkins, broke it off after three years of dating. Jenkins is a trainer who has worked with numerous stars, and some of you may have seen her in those heath commercials that air on BET.

Anyway, people have been speculating about these two for awhile now, and if you check the archives I have some pictures/candids of the both them chilling at random events & parites.

Many sources are also saying that Jeanette plans on talking to media about her relationship with the popular star.

Bossip says that Latifah has been linked with: MC Lyte, Tichina Arnold (Pam from Martin), and boxer Laila Ali (Muhammad Ali’s daughter).

Obviously they haven’t been doing that much “training” so something has to be up.

In related news…

Earlier this year Latifah told Entertainment Tonight that she wanted to be a mother by next year. Well the year is almost up, so I wonder if she still plans on doing that.

Why are people still asking her if she’s gay? Its so obvious that she is and who cares anyway. I’ll still have the same amount of respect for her, gay or straight.

SO THE HELL WHAT! THIS WOMAN HAS MAD TALENT, GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR, SHE’S BEAUTIFUL AND SHE SEEMS TO BE A KIND AND PLEASANT PERSON. I DON’T GIVE A DAMN IF SHE PREPARES WOMEN, MEN OR BOTH. WHAT THE HELL DOES IT HAVE TO DO WITH ANY OF US? IF YOU DON’T WANT HER SEXUALLY AND IF YOU ARE HAPPY DOING YOUR OWN THING, WHY IN THE HELL DOES IT MATTER WHAT THIS WOMAN DOES IN HER PRIVATE LIFE. GET IT, PRIVATE LIFE! WOULD ANY OF US WANT TO DISCLOSE OUR INTIMATE TIMES WITH PEOPLE WE ARE INVOLVED WITH? HELL NO! MANY TIMES GAYS DON’T EXPOSE THEIR LOVE INTEREST BECAUSE SOCIETY TRIES TO DISCREDIT THEIR LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER, MAKING IT SOMETHING DIRTY. GAY PEOPLE FEEL THEIR LOVE IS PURE LIKE ANYOTHER. ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE IF YOU FORNICATE, COMMITT ADULTRY ETC. YOU ARE SINNING ALSO. IN GOD’S EYES YOU MAY BE JUST AS DIRTY AS YOU THINK QUEEN L. IS. I DON’T LIKE WOMEN BUT, HELL THEIR ARE A LOT OF MEN I DON’T LIKE EITHER. THIS IS HOW I TAKE IT- IT’S JUST NOT MY CHOICE OR TASTE, JUST LIKE PARTICULAR MEN MAY NOT BE MY TASTE. I DON’T LOOK AT THESE PEOPLE(GAY PEOPLE) LIKE THEY HAVE NOTHING TO OFFER OR AS IF THEY ARE DIRTY. SUPPORT THIS BLACK WOMEN WHO HAS BROKEN MUCH GROUND FOR WOMEN THICK, BLACK, URBAN ETC.

I think that Yes, It is definitely her business to keep or tell. But in response to PD, i don’t think her skills, talents,or ability to love are in question in the article. And if you are going to refer to the Bible then yes, you do have a position on homosexuality. The best thing to do where our black brothers and sisters are concerned is to support them. If she doesn’t speak on her sexual orientation, then neither should we.

When will people learn that there are feminine women that are lesbo’s as there are tom-boy not so lady like women that are NOT. She may be but its really none of our business anyway. I don’t tell the world I’m straight although im not famous. She shouldn’t have to tell the world she is gay if she doesn’t want to. I personally don’t think she is tho. I have a cousin who is married to a man with 2 children and is not downlow. She reminds me alot of Latifah. Hell, Mr. Rogers was not gay. Well, we had a wife and kids and could have been downlow I guess. LOL

Let me start by saying I met Queen once and she is cool as hell!!!! I don’t really give a damn if she is or not…People have this weird thought that it is everyone’s business if someone is gay or straight, married or single…WTF.. Who cares? The problem is that someone tries not to put their business in the streets and people want to know more. If people tend to their own relationships it wouldn’t be that many divorces. But since people have to put their 2 cents in other people lifes, someone is considered gay if they don’t have a gf or bf. Why can’t she just be doing her right now and not worry about a relationship. It is hard as hell to do full time career, go to school full time and maintain a relationship. Let’s stop trying to wonder about someone and congradutes on success. She is one of the few black celebrates that we can actually claim that hasn’t had a drug case, DUI, murder case, etc. I love the Queen for being her and doing her right now.

I think it is kind of normal that people wonder because you have to admit that Black men and women have not been as open about the homosexual thing as white people have been.
We are used to seeing Black men and women in the public eye in relationships with people of the opposit sex.
Queen is an awesome entertainer and that is all that should matter but I think it is just an issue in the Black community that is still very much in question because we view ourselves as sexual creatures in “traditional” relationships.
History also has a lot to to with it for Black people too. Black people are and have always been very close to the church and in that, homosexuality has not been easily accepted. Whatever her orientation is she has to deal with it.

Me, Only men need to apply!!!!!!!!lol I can’t even think about getting down with another lady. lol

Personally, I believe Queen Latifah is a lesbian, and I think she realizes that most people think that. My thing is “who cares?” Seriously? What does that matter for one minute? The woman has been gay all these years and STILL done the damn thing. Would her being “gay” make any difference in her performance? Hell no.

We need to stand behind her, and not allow her sexual preference to ruin who of the FEW black superstars we have.

The Queen is one of our gems, and I say gay or not, they cannot take her achievements away from us.

The way motherfucking men act it’s no wonder MORE women don’t turn to each other. Meatloaf, take your homophobic ass somewhere else. You think lesbians are the biggest threat to the black family? I think men not taking care of business is the biggest threat to the black family, not to mention DL brothers. If there was more support of gay men and women people wouldn’t HAVE to be on the DL.
No respect for you, all respect to Queen, I agree. I think most of us who have any powers of observation can see for ourselves. She ain’t gotta spell shit out.

How do you guys feel about people like Rosie O’Donnell who is ALWAYS putting her sexual orientation in your face…

How do you guys feel about gay couples (like rosie o’donnell and her wife) raising children..I was thinking about that the other day…How does one explain to the adopted children that they have 2 mommy’s or 2 daddy’s

won’t those kids be confused ???

How do you guys feel about Gay Marriage ???

My position is this: If you want to be gay, be gay…
who really cares.
That’s between you & your god.

What makes things confusing is when you involve the entire universe in your sexual orientation.

what goes on in YOUR bedroom is YOUR busines.
That between you, your partner and your god.

Latifah ain’t going around marching in Gay Rights Parades, or waving banners, so she allright with me..

I don’t see why Latifah is still hiding for. She really has nothing to lose by coming out. This is that time to come out and be “free”, lol. To hell wit’ “Set It Off”, I knew she was a lesbian when she started to make cameos and feature appearances in mainstream (white) movies. It’s funny how Hollywood cannot find roles for Angela Bassett like they can for Latifah. For a “strong, black sista”, lol, she played one helluva coon in that movie she did with Steve Martin. As a matter of fact, I can’t think of the last “respectable” role she played….maybe “The Bone Collector”. Then again, Denzel’s not goona allow a negro to coon in a movie he’s in, so I can’t even count that one. It is what it is…the black family has been destroyed since crack anyway.

What exactly makes Latifa ‘obviously’ gay? The fact that she don’t talk about her private life? Her physical self? Her determination to succeed and be her own woman? I guess we all should be gay then….it really doesn’t matter because people would speculate anywayz.

what about straight men that sleep with a bunch of women and have a bunch of baby mommas?

what do you tell a child that has 10 or 15 half-siblings?

i wonder how the children feel knowing their momma or daddy is or was a hoe?

so you’re 100% right Bill, what goes on in YOUR bedroom is YOUR busines. That between you, your partner and your god.

I don’t think that it’s necessary for Queen to “come out” to satisfy the morbid curiousity - read: nosiness; of people she ain’t fukkin (if she is gay)

Just WHY she should “come out the closet” is my question? What business is it of ANY elses who she’s fukking (or not)? If someone asked many of you people who “wish she would come out” how much you pay for rent, you’d cuss a mf out for being in YOUR business, but you’re the SAME person who thinks that somebody else SHOULD discuss with the world what goes on in the privacy of their own bedrooms? WTF???

Why are HETEROsexual women who refuse to discuss their bedrooms with people considered “classy”? Why are heterosexual men who don’t talk about who they’ve fukked considered, “respectful” - but GAY men and women who keep THEIR sex lives between them and the people they are fucking, HIDING??

Maybe it simply ain’t our business and REGARDLESS of the career you chose, you chose to be an ACTOR, not a porn star, so bedroom antics are off limits as far as I’m concerned.

It’s amazing that not discussing your sex life with strangers is considered “DL” in the homosexual community. But in the heterosexuals community, it’s “Simply not discussing your business”.

NOBODY is “wishing” that Denzel “just comes on out” with what woman HE’s fukking besides his wife because you don’t care, it’s his and his wife’s business - I wonder why it’s different for Latifah?

Bill,

I am a first-hand witness to how a gay household with children can work. A friend of mine for the last 13 years or so, came out of the closet about 5 or 6 years ago. She has been with one partner since she came out, and they have two adopted daughters.

They are raised to call one “Mommy,” and the other by a variation of her first-name. The children have very supportive and loving grandparents on both parents’ side, and a host of friends from the community. They held a cook-out a couple of years ago, and there were probably 50 people that turned out.

I’ve watched these kids grow up from infancy to early childhood, and they are VERY well-adjusted and healthy, happy kids. The two female partners welcome male/female couples into their home, so the kids know that not all homes are female/female. I think they are still too young to realize that their parents are “lesbians,” and it will be interesting to see how they deal with that when they are older, but I have no doubt they’ll do fine.

My husband was raised the only bi-racial child in a family of white people (his mom is white, and had two white kids after him). His youngest brother is like 12. I’ve been a part of the family since he was a year old, so his family has always been black/white. We were all waiting for him to figure out that me and my husband were different. This spring, he walked into our house and greeted my husband with, “Hello, my brother from a different mother.” Me and my husband looked at each with our mouths open because it was the first time he’d ever acknowledged that he noticed we were “different.” My husband just explained plainly that they had the same moms and different dads, and his brother just said, “Oh.” And it has never come up again.

My point is kids are incredibly resilient and accepting if they are raised to be that way. Society might not be accepting of these unconventional families (gay parents, bi-racial marriages), but if the homes are loving and healthy, the kids will be okay. I think we should focus on ARE THE PARENTS stable/healthy (mentally), and not whether they are gay or not.

I do feel that it is between the individual and God. I have no idea which sins are greater and which are lessor. There’s a laundry list of stuff none of us are supposed to do that most of us do all the time, so I’m not going to point fingers at someone else. I got my own dirty-laundry to worry about. LOL

@ Bill - and let’s not forget DENIAL! Not about ones sexuality, but about the things that negatively affect the black community as it relates to other blacks.

We’ll rip a black person to shreds who “sells out” and cuts off his dreads in order to kick down some corporate doors and take care of his… but we’re perfectly willing to ask black folk to “conform” to the hood in order to maintain “street cred” GTFOH!!

You go through college and corporate America to get where you want to be and you’re a sellout, but you refuse to snitch and conform to the ways of the hood and you’re alright with most black folk.

That’s why we hate Oprah Winfrey…. and defend OJ Simpson all day long. What’s wrong with THAT picture

Whether gay or straight, Queen only needs to worry about judgement from the Lord.

Thanks Wifey for your input…

As you know, I do social work with kids in High School & College, and I have a few kids that were raised by same sex parents….

I see some very intereting trends in children that were raised by same sex parents.

I don’t want to generalize, stereotype, or offend our Homosexual community here on CL, so I’ll just keep those opinions to myself.

I wanted to hear someone else viewpoint, so I appreciate you sharing Wifey.

Bill to answer your question.

Rosie - Don’t care
Gay couples - Don’t care
If Queen is lesb - Don’t care
Gay people adopting kids - care but can’t do a damn thing about it.

The kids are innocent and will be influenced by their environment. They will grow up and have many gay friends because many gay couples have boat loads of gay friends. It is what it is.

You are right Judah, crack is wack and the black family is busted because of it.

So if Lesbian Sex consist of a Woman putting on a Strap on, then why not just sleep with a man ???

Lesbians really confuse me….
