And frankly in cases where hetero couples can’t, it’s because hetero folk didn’t come out and support those benefits when they were being written. If you want a policy to include you, you have to advocate for it.

The problem was, many hetero folk didn’t want to fight for DP Benefits because they saw themselves shot blocking SGL couples and families - and then were shocked when SGL folk got those benefits.

Please note, 50% of SGL women and men are parents or are caring for their elderly partners’ parents just like hetero couples are. So when you seek to deny our benefits you also seek to deny our children benefits.

If a SGL couple have 2 children who need dental care - and you and your wife have 2 children who GET dental care from the same employer - that my friend is discrimination. We work equally as hard, pay the same taxes, cut prettier lawns - and are show up for parent teacher conferences just like you do. We endure the same racism, and all the other challenges you face.

If you would see your bigotry as a mountain and climb over it, you’ll see plain fairness on the other side.
