STYLIN: GOLDEN LOCKS

blondesbetter.jpg

Our stylin’ feature will take a closer look into the latest trends in hair, makeup, and accessories within Black Hollywood.

When it comes to black women, its safe to say that most of us like to take risks when it comes to our locks. This ranges from just simply getting a relaxer, or the lengthy process of going from a relaxer to natural, or rocking the most outrageous hairstyle out of the salon, or perhaps the hottest dye job out of the salon. One fun color many sistas – famous or not – like to try is blonde.

Black women in entertainment especially like to try this color and its not just in our day and time. This trend stems back to the 1960s when singers Etta James and Mary Wells sported golden locks on tours to most recently, where singers Kelis and Fantasia traded in their black for the blonde fever. Some stars have looked gorgeous and stuck with golden locks, while others were close to disasters…

BLONDES FOR LIFE

Mary

Beyonce

Mary and Beyonce are what I call Blondes For Life. They may have went darker for a day or two, but if when you’re looking for a golden hairstyle – you instantly think of these two. They’ve had the most consistant blonde hairstyles than the ladies above and most likely, will stick with the color.

Don’t be scared sistas to take the risk because it can work. Just remember, we have to be alot more careful and take many things into consideration. This is includes using caution if one has a relaxer and selecting the right shade complentary to your skintone. Try on a wig to be sure, or start off with a few highlights instead of going full out. Be sure to consult your stylist to keep everything in check ;)

I don’t even care to post about this topic because I’m FIRST!!!!!!!! FIRST TIME EVER!!!!

  2. Congratulations Babycheif_fl :)

I like this feature. I luv 2 get a closer look at ppl’s hairstyles, while usually we play attention on their outfits only..
lol Tianna, I agree with “blondes 4 life”. When u say a blonde black female, the first two 2 come in mind is Mary & Beyonce.

  3. Cassandra

Me too, I care I will love to see close ups!!

  4. Classy Brotha

All look really good in it.. except for the really white trash blonde on Keyshia..

  5. argghhh!!!

I just hate when black women debut with the blonde….be real; rock the different shades of black, brown or red, some colors that are actually attainable by genetics if you aren’t mixed-up.

  6. AreYouSerious?

    These bitches look BUSTED!

    Esp Keyshia Cole, cot damn!

  7. EUSI

I hate the blonde hair on Sistas it very un-natrual leave the washed out pale look to the cave dwellers. Dark hair and dark eyes with beautiful brown skin is basicly beautiful. I loooove my Sistas and I wish they would’nt buy into the eurocetric idea of beauty.

  8. blonde looks good if you have the skin tone for it, its the right color blonde and the right style..somebody needs to beat keyshia..if ciara wants to keep her identity she should never go blonde again..everyone else is cool..oh hold up..not feeling serena but it may be the style as well as Monica..something seems off

  9. Nikki

I love Reagan’s hair color and style. That’s definitely a style I would do. Queen Latifah’s, Mary J. Blige’s second pic and the last Beyonce pic are the blonde colors I would also go for.

  10. shhhhhla

yea, blonde on black women isnt cute when its all over their entire head…Keyshia’s hair looks horrible…i hope thats a lace front

  11. Nikki

Meant to say Mary J. Blige’s third pic, the second one is a little too light for me.

  12. Coko

It works for some..but definitely NOT for all.

  13. Drippin_In_Dollaz

Everyone looks good, EXCEPT…EXCEPT…one more time…EXCEPT Keyshia Cole. Come on now, she knows we don’t rock it like that in the Bay! She looks like a straight up bafoon in that color and style. I like Mary’s hair style in the 2nd picture because it softens her up, but I prefer the color in the 3rd picture. Mary’s neck just always bothers me. She always looks like she’s wheezing from asthma or bronchitis. B just rocks the blonde right period. Faith is better as a redhead. Ciara and Naomi are better in the dark colors than blonde. I think Kelis’ eyebrows shouldn’t be so dark, but I like the blonde on her. Eva is just the golden girl!!

  14. dark_matter

despite how “proud” we’re supposed to be about ourselves, the fact that SO MANY sisters (especially celebs) feel the need to go blonde is very telling!
Call it a “fashion choice” all you want, it speaks VOLUMES on how many sisters feel about their natural hair color and texture.
    Very sad.

  15. Babycheif…you do not win a prize to for being 1st!!!
    Anyways….
All Black women need to let the blond hair go…its played.

  16. I have never liked the blonde on black women. Something about it just doesnt sit right with me. Although some of them do look nice. I would go red before i ever went blonde.

  17. aaaawwww

blonde is okay if thats what you like, but don’t be black thougts complexion and rocking blonde/platinum with blue contacts…..that just screams self hatred to me

try to stick to colors that match your complexion all that blonde on dark skin NO, go for a more golden brown look.

and light skin girls STOP wearing jet black eyeliner, use brown or dark brown that s&*t dont look good!!!!!!

*if you dont know who black thought is look it up suckkas (…..hes a very dark chocolate brother like tyrese)

  18. aaaawwww

eva is doggn all of them she is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Candy

Everybody looks nice accept for,Keyshia Cole Its not a good look for her.At all its giving hoodrat all day long it could be just the picture thought.

  20. yosay

I waver on this blonde hair. But some black women look good with it. You have to have the right complexion.

  21. crys

Loving the new feature……PLEASE DO ONE ON NATURAL HAIR!

not really into the blond tho.

  22. MISS REAL

    serena and keke, H.A.M.

  23. AngelEyes

Serena | Naomi | Ciara —- Not good
Keyshia | Reagan | Latifah —– Not good
Faith | Monica | Eve ———–Not good
Tasia | Eva | Kelis ———-Not good
    Mary ——————–Not good
Beyonce ————- The last pic is more natural.

OK, it is just not natural to have hair that is lighter than your skin. And that goes for all the white women bleaching too.
Only if you have a gene that makes your hair come out lighter than your skin tone is it even remotely attractive. Black women seriously need to ask themselves why they feel they need to have light blond hair and even change the texture, ie wigs to be attractive.

While I do think it is up to the individual, this is just too much. I mean come on! Serena looks crazy. I don’t care how much money you have, to go completely blond next to a darker skin tone just does not look right.

I can understand if you are a model and the designer needs to bleach your hair because it goes with the clothes but to were long blond (Bleached) hair almost everyday of your life is just rediculous.

There are a lot of beautiful shades that go with darker skin tones. You don’t see Italian women bleaching their hair to look like white women. They know that their sultry black hair is on point next to their olive skin tone. Women from India would look absolutely nuts bleaching their hair. Women from the Middle East and Asia look stunning with silky black hair. Why has American Black women baught into this Barbie Doll look? We are seriously disillusioned!

Dark hair goes with dark eyes!!!!!!OK. So many women Black and White need to stop trying to be something their not.

  24. AngelEyes

If you ask me this is why so many Black women have a hard time growing their own hair out.

Too much is being done to it. Using quality hair care products and a great hair stylist goes a long way.

Most of these women have on weaves. Not even natural under the blond.

Women, stop doing things to your little girls hair when they are young. This sets them up for trouble with their natural hair. A perm is ok if you need to control the hair but teach them to learn to work with their texture.

  25. Eddie

ciara is no longer a golden girl

  26. dejaboo

for some reason i hate to see black women with blond hair. and no im not white im black too. it just looks so wrong to me.

  27. itzzzkimmm

    Keyshia… WTF were you thinking?
I hate that second pic of Bee. Gross. That first pic of her is so cute though.

  28. nature'sgyal

All these black women, and not a single one with a natural do. No afro, no crop, no dreadlocks. Sad indeed. It would be nice to feature black women who are secure enough with themselves to rock the texture God gave them. Then again, I understand that sadly, the pickings are slim. As a beautiful black woman with dreadlocks, there’s nothing that makes me more proud than to see my sisters rocking their natural locks. And thank goodness I have a conscious-minded brother as my man because lord knows I could never rock a weave or a wig.

  29. SAY WHAT :0

that pick of kiesha cole is a mess.

  30. Gina_b

I wear my hair natural and straight all the time, and have had many hair colors in years past. But just because I am a dark skin sista with a honey blonde hightlights does not mean I am not proud of the beautiful and rich african culture of my ancestors. Changing my hair is just my way of expressing myself, like the way that I dress or the way that I speak. That was a really unfair statement, whomever said that. Please dont get it twisted, i luv being chocholate!

  31. Coko

If natural is your thing…that’s what’s up…if it’s not (like me) because it’s not practical especially with my location or profession…that has nothing to do with being “proud of who you are”. As a Gemini it is necessary for me to switch my style…I rock my own…cut it..grow it..braid it..weave it..wig it…and I love it!

  32. E

I guess they forgot about Lil Kim

  33. Weezer

    Most are wigs though.

  34. Keyshia is a hot mess for real and dont think Im just hating.Tha white blonde does not fit her at all. She needs to try black or nice shade of brown because that due is just not doing it.

  35. itzzzkimmm

A lot of the pics you guys posted the celeb’s hair isn’t even blonde. A lot of the hair colors are acually a light brown.

  36. Sadly, blonde hair doesnt really look good on Black women. Thats ONE STYLE that should be left to Caucasoid individuals. Why is it that African Americans HAD to touch that look? Do you see Asians rocking BLONDE HAIR? NO WAY! And they are for the most part, East Asians, paler than us.

Anyhoo, Bee and Eva…along with Kelis pull it off the best. I love my dark skin sisters, being dark skin myself, but the blonde hair is a no no, especially when you pair it with tired overly made up or bronzed skin. A dull wreck.

  37. I don’t think changing your hair color or texture screams self-hatred, unless you NEVER wear you natural color/texture.

I change my hair style every couple of months using wigs or weaves. However, I keep my hair it’s natural texture (I use texturizer occasionally when it’s too long and unruly) and color because I want it to stay healthy. During the summer and other occasions, I rock my own hair and sometimes cut it for a bolder look. But other times I really like to switch it up. Different shades of brown and red do it for me.

I’ve never been into the blonde look on sisters, but if they are doing it because they like to switch up and experiment like me I’m all for it as long as it looks good. However, most of the pics featured here look bad cause the hair color doesn’t compliment the skin tone. Mary’s 1st one is nice, but most of the other celebs need to stop, especially the bleach blondes like Keyshia and B’s second pic: not a good look.

  38. browneyz (philly)

I don’t think anything is wrong with dying your hair blonde but there is something wrong with rocking a hairstyle or color that looks awful your face and skin tone. Pick a style that compliments your round, heart, or oval shaped face and a color that compliments your skin tone. Walking out of the house looking tore up is the problem but I don’t think the problem is self hatred. It’ s just a problem with a lot of us sistas not knowing which style is right for us.
I also agree with the Coko
We have to choose styles that are work place acceptable. Dreds and a afro may be looked down upon in the business place, as well as your diana ross weave, which i rock as senior in highschool, or your wild highlights. Because we are black women, we need to be very cautious about appearance, especially if we plan on going far in life.

  39. mimi_ga

Keyshia doesn’t look right. It works for a lot of the people though.

  40. what???????

Keyshia Coles got on a lacefront!!! go head girl !! wit your bad self… Everybody looking good except that damn Serena Williams.

  41. Gina_b

WTF? I see asian gurls w/ blonde hair all the time. It does not look good on alot of asian woman. But asian women go to extremes to get that (western) look. They get surgeries to get rid of their slanted eyes! I would never go crazy like that!

  42. keisheloca

Us Black women get to have the most fun with our hair. We can braid it, cut it, weave it, twist it. But i see nothing wrong wit people doing what they want to their own hair. Just make sure it suits your complexion and everyday life.

  43. Slovely

Its eith Beyonce or Mariah, because the both have chunky backs.

  44. pounds

we as black women can enjoy everything, we can cut our hair, and then the next day sew in some hair, we can color our hair and then we have a bad hair day we can reach in the back of our trunk and pop on a Blonde wig, we can sew it, glue it, lace front, dye it, cut it, layer it. We keep the oriental Beauty supply stores in business, we like change. So if someone wanna be blonde one day and then brown the next WHO CARES. I KNOW if I could get a personal hairstylist, my hair would be blonde one day, and then lace front the next. They got the money to do WHATEVER they want!!

  45. pounds

#45—AGREED. I forgot to mention twist it.

We can Fingerwave it, Micro it, Invisiable Braid it, Kinky Twist it, wrap it, glue it, flat iron it, swoop it, ponytail it, French Roll it, Rod it, Roller set it, Dread it, Bob it. The list goes on!!

Black hair is the best. By the way, I will be sewing in mine tommorow. 12 inch Black sew in. Straight Yaky Hair, 13.00 a pack!! ahahahhahah LOL!!

  46. Latifah hair has been consistantly fly over the years. Bravo to her stylist for keeping her shit tight! (Now only if the damn trainer would do her damn job)

Blonde becomes Beyonce. It’s that simple
and Faith as well… except not that damn hairstyle
    Eva’s blond is HOT!
    Kelis in blonde is NOT!

    Keysha + Fannie = They don’t give a fuck!…
***sighs at people who just don’t get it!
I’m gonna have to just blame their Mama’s for this shit!

    Serena Tries and Fails.

Mary is Mary & you have no choice but to respect her damn gangsta! We tried to hate on her hair, but she just boggles, confused & amazes with her weave voodoo. Leave Mary, her gluey lacefronts, and her magical blonde eternity braids the hell alone!

  47. one of one

so having blonde hair as a Black woman means u hate your heritage?

    u bitches are stupid.

so, to you short women that think this way here’s my suggestion:

-stop wearing heels. u hate yourself and your height by trying to appear taller.

to u fat women that think blonde equals self hate:

-quit wearing slimming clothing, get off those diet pills, and stop hating on thin chicks. u obviously hate yourself if u’re trying to lose weight.

and finally for women with acne/stretch marks :

stop wearing make-up and clothes that cover up your problem areas. u clearly hate what God gave u to work with and by covering up u’re hiding who u are.

    -insert sarcasm here-

bitches kill me. always have something to say.

wear blonde hair, even if it makes u look like a damned fool. that’s what we do as women… experiment.

    -1-

  48. Lady Lia

It’s all about what works best for your skin tone. I like trying out different hair colors – there is nothing wrong with that. It’s not that serious.

  49. sweetgurl

lol @ 50 ur taking it way too personally!!
Anywas im lucking that i have my natural hair length to my shoulder. so I never in my life tried any weaves on. But I think the blonde only suit light skined chicks(dnt worry im drak skined so i aint hating). Drak brown and reds mainly suit the drak skined chicks. End of the day it depends on your skin colour.

@ 38 and 24 just like to say that there are asian and italian chicks that do their hair blonde. It just that you dont see it often in amercia.

  50. I was a blonde back in my day but I think the jet Black is sooo beautiful and it brings out my feautures.

I think Black women with the right skintone look good blonde. But remember sisters, that Blonde doesn’t always mean better. Don’t let these white folks, and some of our misguided brothers, fool you.

I’m natural but I don’t think coloring hair means self-hatred. Blonde is just a funky color and compliments our skin tone. And some Black folks come out the womb blonde. But yeah if you’re doing it because you wanna be a “Becky”, you need help.

  51. Ione

Yeah only a few can pull a look of such as wearing blonde. I myself had a few highlights of honey blonde in my hair for about a year then went back to jet black. The color looks good on certain women skin tone, but for me that light color like that can reck havic on your hair if not taken care of properly. Lucky I have natural curly hair and don’t get perms just wash and blow dry or my hair probably would have fell out.

  52. MS1DERFUL

Black and Asian women should NEVER dye their hair blonde… period. NO matter what your complexion.

I think its in the Bible:
“Jesus wept …(when he saw an Asian girl with blond hair)”

“If thou art blacketh, blond hair is WHAKETH”

Chapter and verse: ‘Hell to the Naw’ Chapter 1:vs 2&3.

  53. Aaron

OMG, What the fuck is beyonce doing in that second pic. BITCH, put the bleach creme & hair dye DOWN….NOW!!!Its not wroking. And keisha needs 2 stay with her red. Also, Ciara, Kelis, Reagan and the Queen rocks it the best!

  54. kyle

^^^Aaron I agree, beyonce looks a HOT MESS in pic 2. Too much dye and bleachin. Anyway, the bes are Ciara & Eva.

  55. Kelis rocked it the best! then, Eva & Tasia.

I don’t believe ppl rock heels to be taller. If the shoes are pretty wear them. If you think your hair looks good in blonde or gold. Rock it.
But the gold look..ehhhh.. People have choices.

  56. Asentha

I don’t think that blonde looks good on Black women! A few have looked OK with it, but I don’t think anyone looks GOOD with it.

Keyshia Cole with blonde hair…looks a Hot Ass Mess!!

  57. msblacknasty1

ok ok ok y come we cant git close up to see the lacfronts cause yall know bee, and the rest of them is wearn it. look at serena wit her nappy headed ass she aint neva been blonde even tho we cant git close you could still see the glue on serena lolol show me baby pics non of them had blonde hair and monica no she really only got a teaspoon full of hair
