Taye Diggs and wife Idina Menzel back in April
Well I actually watched “Day Break” and it wasn’t all that to tell you the truth. Just like one of the people said in the interview, Taye Diggs is corny as hell and I could care less who he is married to. Maybe the show sucked, and deserved to be cancelled. I’ve seen better shows get the boot.
Anyway….
Last month he sat down with Rolling Out magazine to talk about why black woman are more accepting of the “Will Smith” & “Denzel” types:
“What [black women] were happy about was that [Mendes’ character in Hitch] wasn’t white; she was Latina,” Diggs explains when asked why Will Smith’s role in the film didn’t draw as much cultural ire as some of the choices he’s made on- and off-screen. “That’s what they were happy about, if we’re gonna be real. That’s how the scale goes. First off, if it’s a dark brother and the dark brother isn’t with a dark sister that causes issues. … After that, if you’re going to date outside the race, then they go down the list of how poorly other minorities have been treated after blacks. [So] after that, you have Latino. … Like, I’ve had people say that about my wife: ‘At least she looks Spanish.’ Like that makes it a little bit better. So that’s why people accepted it. If Will Smith had been with a lily-white woman, it would’ve been a completely different situation in the black community as far as females are concerned. I guarantee you that.” [SOURCE]
Here is when he got a little attitude when the interviewer asked him about his white wife:
“I’m too far along in my life and in my career to really give a question like that any type of dignified answer,” says Diggs, who was raised in black, middle-class Rochester, N.Y., intones. “When I was in high school, maybe. College, maybe. But I’m a grown-ass man and if people have a difficult time dealing with that, then I welcome them to see a movie with Omar Epps or Denzel Washington or some of those other brothers that have chosen to spend the rest of their lives with sisters, as you say. I just don’t have time for it. You can’t make everybody happy. And for the fans that are out there that are into me; they don’t really give a f— what’s going on with my personal life.” [SOURCE]

Actually I never saw the show, I just think his acting isnt all that good anyway, I dont care who he is married too. That really isnt true because look at cuba gooding jr, he is married to a white lady and people still go see his movies all the time. Then again, he ususally has black love interest in his movies.

Taye Diggs WAS an okay actor it is his arrogance that turns me off, also he made his career playing the love interest in many beloved black films and who cares if his wife is white he is the asshole one thing I want the “so-called” BMDWW (black men dating white women) is would the heifer want your kuntry asses if you didn’t have money, they all cry about sisters and our attitudes and blah,blah, (wesley snipes, dennis rodman, cuba gooding etc. but that is just an excuse all give me a REAL brother such Denzel, Will, Isiah, etc let the white women have those weak-ass punks!!

That interview made me not like him… and I wouldn’t watch a series that he was in even if his love interest was blk… He is so not interesting… I stopped being a fan after brown sugar…Thats when I realized he wasnt that good of an actor.
Never watched it–but then again I never watch Lost or the other “suspend reality weird sh@t is going on” type shows.
But I think Taye had a right to get pissed at being questioned about his wife. No matter what color–you do not question a man’s choice of wife. That will get you jaw-jacked in certain circles.
I watched the show, it was alright it started to make no sense and that’s probably why it got cancelled. I really don’t feel any kinda of way about black dudes dating outside of their race. Its when the say the reason why they date outside the race because of black women having attitude problems and other BS. He can love who he wants anybody can just don’t down a group of people in order to justify what you’re doing, because if you have to justify you can’t possible think what your doing is right in the first place. Day break was one of my favourite new shows this year, I’m bummed that it got cancelled but I’m having a hard time believing that black women are responsible for it cancellation.

It seems as if we are moving backwards when it comes to racism. We are suppose to be more accepting of different races. It seems that we as blacks are shutting out anyone that’s not black. And people are seeming to be more outward and bold in putting us down and degrading us. I don’t know where this era will take us but I’m scared…..
Personally I don’t give a damn who he’s married to or the color of his love interest on the show. I just didn’t wanna see a ‘Groundhog Day’ type show every single week.

Now I haven’t seen the show, but I’m sure that a small group of people were not the only reason it was cancelled. If it was wack it was wack, that’s a different story. If it were a good show I’m sure it wouldn’t have made a difference.

This was an action show (and not very good if you ask me), and most women don’t watch this stuff, black or white. 24 is popular with males and this type of show seems to be marketed the same way. Just because he takes his shirt off a few times does not make it a female show.
I don’t think the color of his love interest had much to do with it. He could have been married to Whoopie Goldberg on the show and it still would have been cancelled.

I watched the show for a hot second and frankly I thought the shit was whack I mean you living the same week, day or whatever it was WHACK!!! I lthink like Cuba Gooding and Wesley SNipes he lost his “GHETTO PASS” when peopl found out they were married to white and asian or whatever Wesley Snipes wife is. The only thing about Cuba is that he had been with her a long time so it’s not like he go famous and then dissed black women. I always thought Wesley was intimidated by black women anyway.
