Its four generations of beautiful Black women on the cover of Essence. Wendy Raquel Robinson, Kelly Rowland, Patti Labelle, Vaneesa Williams, and Nancy Wilson all grace the cover of January’s issue. I love when Essence puts together covers like this.

yay 1st foo, about the mag meh looks good tho
1st
Beautiful and Talented Sisters — Nancy Wilson still going strong!
They all look great on this cover, especially Nancy. Though I do not wear a natural do myself, it would be nice to see a sister without weave on the cover. (besides the lovely Nancy)
NICE!!!!
Great cover!
I might go buy this issue
Everyone looks fab. I love these kinds of mag covers What has Wendy been up to lately? The last thing I remeber seeing her in was that Sanna Lathan movie Something new and that was over a year ago
Nancy Wilson is the epitome of Black Class. Doesn’t get any better than her. I love Vanessa Williams, too. I iwhs she could land a role of a lifetime, though. Kelly Rowland…ENOUGH with the “Brooklyn Home Attendant” wigs!!!!
Nancy Wilson is amazing!!! Love this cover. All shades of beautiful, baby!
This is a beautiful cover .
I just luv how black don’t crack. Because of these beautiful women, i’m not scared to leave my 20s. Thank you God that i was born black! Kelly looks gorgeous.
@11 Amen
Very beautiful cover with an excellent selection of gorgeous black women of all ages…@ # Miss Thang
Wendy plays Malik’s mother on the new series “The Game” on the new CW channel with Tamara Mowry…she the only reason I watch the show
Ok..nice.
I love this cover very eye catching!
i read that mag today at school.all of them look beautifu;l especially kelly and wendy..she still looks the same as when she was on the steve harvey show…man,i miss that show.
its an article in there written by some dude named big boom or somethin.but he talks about females havin sex too soon with their boyfriends or whatever.its a pretty good article
The various shades of our beauty.
This is a lovely cover.
And all of these ladies look beautiful.
They look beautiful. Especially Nancy Wilson
OH WAIT. okay…. I’m sorry this mag just messed up a very classy cover with that trashy headline on top that reads: “a hip hop diva tells all in a juicy new memoir, page 70″ regarding that carmen chic. I just don’t think that was done in good taste.
Cosign 11
I am in my 30′s and look younger than many caucasian women in their 20′s. It is definately in the genes.
They are all very beautiful and different.
Look at how many women go to the tanning beds and spray on tanning products to be more beautiful.
We have it all natural and GOD given. I love getting older because when I tell someone my age they say wow you look much younger. I think it is great.
These women are just a few out of many beautiful Black women. We should never doubt ourselves because we represent true elegance and class. Black women should not distroy themselves by using skin lighteners and by getting their faces altered to look like a barbie doll. Not to mention fake breast. We need to embrace what is already ours. And, we need to love ourselves more and treat ourselves with dignity and respect. True beauty will surface out of self love.
Peace to all Black women around the globe. Peace to the beautiful African women suffering in their homeland. Those that cause you harm only want to destroy want they cannot have.
Patti is looking rough. Somebody needs to be fired for that. She usually looks amazing in photo shoots.
Nancy Wilson hasn’t aged in like 20 years, how old is she now, she still looks the same, but just has a different hairstyle.
Black Women are beautiful….Im so jealous im an ugly black one.
Hi, does anyone know what type of hair removal would be good for me? I have chest hair…and it just keeps growing! Can someone please help me….I cant control it. Thanks. R.C.
Kelly looks flawless in this picture..she really stands out..
Black is Beautiful….Self hating niggas who only date white trash cave bunnies need to take heed! Black dont crack! Ya heard
WHAT A FABU COVER! I just love the many shades of Black. I co-sign @ how Nancy Wilson just seems to stand still and not age in the least bit over the last 20 or so years.
kelly is really a gorgeous girl!!
the prettiest on this cover and even DC rite now
AngelEyes, beautifully written.
Thanks Monie Luv.
I really meant it.
Is Vanessa in her fifties? She probably just turned 50. And Wendy looks like she is in her early forties to me. Age doesn’t matter with black women anyway.
Kelly has come a long way. I know her CD is coming out soon. Unfortunately, I have had my fill of the whole DC klan which includes Ms. Kelly. ALL of them need to take a looong break. Moma bear, popa bear, baby bear Daniel, just everybody lol!
The “BLACK DON’T CRACK” issues of Essence are my absolute fave!
Patti and Venessa messed it up!
nancy wilson looks ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!! I COSIGN WITH THE COMMENT ABOVE….SISTERS, SOMETIMES WE CAN DO WITHOUT THE “EXTRA ADDITIVES”…ALL SISTERS ARE BEAUTIFUL NATURALLY…….BUT NEVERTHELESS, IT’S A STUNNING PHOTO…
SEXY U WRONG….LOL
baby bear Daniel, just everybody lol!
I just bought this issue today (It’s way too thin though), but the women featured are absolutely gorgeous. There are women featured who are up to 90 years old and they look phenominal. I can only hope and pray to grow older and be so beautiful. Black really don’t crack, unless you’re on crack. So take care of yourselves everyone.
Thank God we don’t have to tan to harm our skin too.We are very blessed.I just got mines in the mail and it is a good read.
IT IS SOOO NICE TO SEE 5 DIFFERENT SHADES OF BLACK LOOKING BLACK A BEAUTIFUL.. WHEN I SEE A GROUP OF MY PEOPLE HOLD IT TOGETHER AND LOOKING GOOD, AND DOING RIGHT I GET SO HAPPY…
MAN I LOVE MY PEOPLE, MY FAM, MY FELLOW SISTAS, AND BROTHERS EVEN IF THEY DONT HAVE LOVE FOR THEMSELVES…
SEEING A COVER LIKE THIS JUST MAKES UP APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT MAKES US UNIQUE.. FROM OUR SKIN, TO THE NOSE, TO THE EYES, THE CHEEKS BOTH OF THEM….LOL… TO THE LEGS, THE HAIR(I HAVE SEEN THE GREATEST STYLES ON OTHER SISTAS HEADS)
Like #20, I too am in my thirties. I always get a gasp when people ask me my age. I love it and I dont do anything spectacular. I drink plenty of water and I use noxema on my skin. I get the ohh gosh your what you dont look over 25. I love it. Yes Black doesnt crack and I got plenty of females and friends in my circle that could attest to it. Black women are very beautiful and its nice to see these type of covers that Essence seems to do at least twice a year. I do think longer hair on some women make you look older though. It would be nice to see some women put down the yaky perm weave and wear their own hair. All the women look magnificent and Nancy Wilson is by far very beautiful.
I also love that commercial with Angela Basset and the other two ladys. That lady that is sitting to her left with the grey short haircut is a very pretty lady. I sure hope to age that gracefully when I am in my 40′s/50′s and 60′s.
Everyone looks nice but something in my spirit is telling me that Patti needs to fire whoever told her that she looked good she usually look very nice they shouldn’t have done that to her. I still love u Patti
#20 AngelEyes – very Beautifully stated…
We need to embrace what is already ours. And, we need to love ourselves more and treat ourselves with dignity and respect. True beauty will surface out of self love.
Peace to all Black women around the globe. Peace to the beautiful African women suffering in their homeland. Those that cause you harm only want to destroy want they cannot have.
They all look beautiful! Can’t wait to pick that up!
Guess Who I Saw Today….. Nancey Wilson looking Killah on the cover of Essence.
She still looks the same from when I was a lil girl and would go with my mom and aunts to she her at the Beacon in NY. She is defiantly a CLASSIC!
Bee-youuu-tee-full!
Damn Numba 23…you that beastly?
Wow
Anyways, yea, this cover is the shit.
BLACK DON’T CRACK!
I should make a bumper sticker with that shit:)
What a wonderful cover. I am a fella, and I may have to buy that one, just to look at from time to time. We’ve got some wonderful singers amongst our people, but, Nancy Wilson, like Aretha, is in a class by herself.
Any of you youngsters who like real jazz, pickup some of her stuff. She’s unbelieveable!
Thanks THINKABOUTIT and you are so right MissChoklate2006 @39.
I just try to eat veggies or salads with every meal and drink lots of water. A little bit of exercise goes a long way too. I used to use Proactive but it is very strong and will dry out your skin. But it does work. I don’t have bad skin but every once in a while my skin just wants to act up and you absolutely must use a skin treatmenet no matter how light or heavy your acne may be.
I have been using a simple Neutrogena product. It is a gel exfoliant and is very gentle. LADIES YOU MUST EXFOLIATE TO KEEP YOUR SKIN FRESH LOOKING. Dead skin can really ruin a nice complexion.
I do keep an acne treatment under my sink just for when that one little blemish starts to come up.
Black women naturally have beautiful skin but we must use a skin cleanser and an acne product to keep our faces looking young and vibrant.
Some women may not need to but even Halle Berry does quite a bit to her skin to keep it looking so young and vibrant. Black women have oily skin and have to make sure their pores don’t clog. This is why we have to exfoliate. When I was young all the women on TV were white and I wanted to be like them. It was’nt until I was older that I realized that young black girls grew into beautiful Black women and that many people around the world admire our exotic beauty.
One reason we grow up questioning our looks is because we don’t see enought images that reflect ourselves in the media. Thankfully that has changed somewhat since I was young.
I do think that many Black women are..and don’t take this the wrong way…but art slaves to their hair. By that I mean they are trapped by the cycle of changing it over and over again.
Black women are beautiful with long or short hair but the key is weather you will were your own hair or someone elses. If you were your own hair, it has to be trimmed in order to stay looking full and healthy.
And, staying away from the heating tools. And there is nothing wrong with wearing the same style for a while to trane the hair and to get it to a healthy state.
It is ok to use them but just in moderation.
Black women need not to look at the images of Black women who wear blond weaves and think that they will be beautiful if they looked like that. This is a grand illusion that many of us have bought into and it is truly sad that many Black women feel they have to look more white to be considered beautiful.
It took me a long time to accept myself and then I could see the beauty that is within other Black women.
Self love is self respect. When you respect yourself you are less likeky to envy what other women have or look like.
Peace
oooops sorry I meant to say “wear your own hair”. Duh! lol
they all look beautiful.. kelly is lookin fab like always
thats not a good pix of patty =/
@ angeleyes you made a really good post
I used to use proactive too. The only proactive product I use now is their refining mask. It helps to keep my skin tone even and prevent future breakouts, espcially when I get pop happy with the ocassional zit. I use Murad facial treatment now. They sell it a Sephora to me it is much more gentle than Proactive. I also use a clay masque at once a week to unclog the pores and 100% Aloe Vera Gel works wonders for me when Im in a hurry on the go. It cleans my face and keeps it soft.
where’s beyonce……?
This is a beautiful cover. All of these ladies look good, whatever they are doing they should keep it up!
Hey miss thang:
pop happy, that was funny. Yeah, I’m not sure if Proactive is good for your skin in the long run. But I do keep their mask on hand and only use it once a week or every two weeks. I will look into Murad. I love Aloe Vera Gel. It dooooes keep your skin soft.
Cool. Thanks for your tips.
I use to use proactive too, the system worked great for about a year and then BAM!!, It stopped working and I broke out alll over again. So I finally went and saw a dermatologist and he prescribed me 3 medications and I have been using them for 7 months and everyone cant believe how good my skin looks. No more pimples, and it cleared up my dark spots.
Proactive works for some, but not everyone.
I also exfoliate with Oil of Olay products.
let the Beyonce hating begin..
I think having your hair done, and makeup helps these ladies look you too
Screw Beyonce. This post aint about her. LOL
It is about us beautiful Black sistas. lol
Suga Buga, You are right. Once you stop using proactive or if you cut back the acne really comes back with a vengence.
The Derm Doc usually knows best. Thats great that you found a solution for your skin. You have to find what works best and Proactive does not work for everyone. I tried a lot of different things in my 20′s but realized that an exfoliant cleanser was the best thing for me. My pores just like to give me a hard time. I have to tell them who is boss. lol
By the way Oil of Olay makes some very good products but they have so many to choose from. It is hard to figure out which ones to buy. I would suspect that out of about 20 you would only need one or two. That product has been on the market for a very long time.
