VIDEO: NAS – “BLOOD DIAMOND”

Thanks so much to Fred for sending me the link via e-mail of this new Nas video. I think this must be the cool new thing, to put two videos out on top of eachother and get them both played.

Loving the concept. Good to see real Hip Hop!

  5. Smokie

Oh yeah, I’m really feelin this. I like that Jay-Z is doing his job promoting Nas’ music. Can’t wait for HHID to drop.

  6. hdizzle

Nas is a grown man who makes grown man music. How could you not respect that. The will never play this video though becuase of all the violence butthe attempt is worth it.

Damn is that really going on down there? Jesus.

  7. Video is Fiyahhhh!!!!!!!! Nas is the real. Its time our role models made us think about the things worth thinking about. The video is awesome and I hope the movie is too.

  8. net_ho

This is an excellent song and video. I am so thankful to Nas for educating and shedding light on this serious problem.

I realize every artist can’t be him and that not every song can be one that delves into socially controversial topics but I honestly wish more of our hip-hop figures would use their platform/status to educate their fans and the world about the issues that plague us. There’s so much going on that we don’t know and since hip-hop touches so many, it would be the perfect tool to inform.

    Go Nas!!

true every artist can’t be him but none try to se their format for anything other then getting paid. I mean look at the situation.

You don’t get any respect now unless your comming out of jail, so what is it hip hop, is a bunch of convicts with money, of coarse the genre aint about nothing anymore. You give bad people money they talk about bad things and represent bad things.

  11. Candy

Now this is what I called Hip Hop, thanks to a real dope HIP HOP artist.Nas always going so deep talking about real stuff that make sense.

  12. Kels

RAPP is back….I am so glad to here rappers talking about real issues. I am so sick of the bling bling and ass shaking videos. Real topics….that’s what rap is about. Thank you Nas…you are “God’s Son” I am so glad you are coming back to take over the game. This is grown folks music.

  13. Ione

Nas is a true lyricist, I will be buying his album when it come out.

  14. Jamie E.

Socially responsible rap is like vegetables…we all know it’s good for us but the fatty crap that will kills us just taste so much better. I still like it, I just know it won’t do what it should do.

  15. Laura

Well he put this video out soon because the movie is coming out this weekend “Blood Diamond” I will definitely be seeing it and buying Nas’s album.

I’m gonna have to disagree with that. The genre is unlistenable all together to me. I have’nt bought or downloaded any bodys album I dont really know whos considered the best right now and i’M only 21 the main demagraphic for the genre. That says a lot.

  17. Shayna

    Now Nas is SMOKIN’… dannnngggg!!!

Everybody wants heaven, nobody wants dead.

    You real son, you reaaallllll!!!

  18. That’s the Nas I know & love right there. This man can speak on the grimmiest/unspoken topics and convey raw emotion & manages to sound educated at the same turn. Impressive!

  19. wandsworth

the whole thing smacks of hypocrisy…
    practise what you preach playa….
regurgitating Kanye’s track all in the name of movie soundtrack money

    *wandsworth rolls eyes*

Did you even listen to the lyrics?

“I’m sitting here feeling half a shame/as I rap in my platinum chain”

“Everybody wants Heaven/But nobody wants dead”

Should I spell it out? Everything he said is real talk. We all wanna shine, but we dont want to do it at the expense of someone’s life. Anyway, I’m happy Nas got to do a score to a major movie and Leonardo Di Caprio was the one who handpicked Nas, so thats respect for his artistic ability. The track and video are classic.

  21. Namibian Girl

Loving the track and the vid….this really whts going down in Sierra leone, they being exploited…no fair trade whtsoeva, innocent ppl being killed and children forced to join the army…SL is indeed a very rich country but ppl r living in poverty…their whole riches (diamonds) find their way to the US..such a pity!!

  22. Nikki

It’s alright, wish it was longer but I get the point..

  23. When I read the title of the song, the first thought that came to my head was “damn, i wonder if he is wearing jupiter on his finger”. Needless to say, I didn’t see his wedding ring. Was he just keeping the video modest by just wearing the Platinum chain or do I have very poor eyesight and missed that big ass wedding ring that he usually wears. Other than that, Nas–I think your album is gonna to be FIRE FIRE FIRE. You still got it baby. Can’t wait for it to drop.

  24. SohoRedLondon

    Heavy Sh*t!

  25. malcolm

the somg is not from nas album its the soundtrack for the movie blood diamond

  26. #23 I don’t think he regurgitated Kanye’s track, I think he’s resuscitating hip hop and I’m glad. Even if there are 8 more tracks about blood diamonds after this one, are you saying that’s a bad thing?

Some of the images in that video gave me the chills. I hate to see footage of children using guns, they are forced to serve in these armies, and it’s sad. I feel for those children and the people who are suffering.

  27. hood_shit

great song and video HOWEVER Keysia Cole or Lauryn Hill on the hook would have taken it to another place!

  28. MELLYMEL

I’m feeling it. Nas is back!

  29. IslandGirl-Bri

I like the song, wanna see the movie too

  30. MissTee2U

I love that rappers are getting more conscious in their lyrics. And I realize that Africa is facing some serious issues and they do share our heritage. BUT….are there no problems in this country…or are we all just happy walking it out and selling drugs?

BTW..the video was hella violent…that was a lot for 11 in the a.m. Kinda made me NOT want to see that movie….I wish we understood better that Africa is a continent and not all of it is war-torn and fucked up.

  31. MissPYT

Nas always tells it like it is

  32. Tiffany

Love the record and the video as raw and violent as it is! Nas always brings the grittiness and the grime unlike no other, but still always looking so sexy and classy! It’s looking like Hip-Hop could soon be resurrected with this man!
This should get play on MTV2 at least!

  33. Nas & Kanye’s song has absolutly no connection other than the mere metion of blood diamonds. Kanye’s “Sierra Leone” (which I loved) was a stylish, metophoric view of his union with the ROC record label & their conflict after disbanning. Nas song deals with the internal struggle of knowing what happens when you know whats going on in the real world.

This is a great coaching oppertunity for all of us.
    Speaking on Conflict Diamonds:
I’ve had both the pleasure & displeasure of working in the Diamond Industry & it’s important for people to know that many places in Africa (where diamonds are the sole, or major resource) are developing into productive, balanced communities. There is a very large percentage of the industry that have denounced the purchase of diamonds from countries that end in conflict, violence, & war over these “Blood Diamonds”. The important thing for people who actually purchase diamonds to know, is where did their diamonds come from. Ask questions. Demand to know. In America (for the most part) our retail chains are conflict-free. Who knows what goes on behind the doors of private dealers????
The other great factor regarding celebrities who purchase conflict-free diamonds is that a vast amount of up & coming African communities thrive off that resource alone to provide jobs, schools, homes, roads & every other basic need for civilization. Conflict Diamonds Kill… Conflict Free Diamonds can be a rewarding commodity in millions of peoples lives.

  34. I like the video. I can’t wait to check out the movie.

  35. Sanela

    I love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!
