And for the record Louise (#147)Dreamgirls, the play, is based on girl groups from the 60s, not the supposedly scandalous exploits of Diana as a Supreme. Florence Ballard was pushed aside and dissed as you say, because she started drinking, gaining weight, missing rehearsals and basically hurting herself and the group–don’t get me wrong, the Diana star was in full orbit by Berry Gordy but Florence contributed to her own demise. And even though Diana had no reason to apologize for her success, she set up trust funds for Florence’s children when she died. Diana was and is a shrewd business woman and would be a fool if she had not taken advantage of all of the hoopla surrounding Dreamgirls. This is how these people make their money–by being and staying marketable and relevant in the entertainment business. I love Dreamgirls, the movie, but Diana will never be threatened by the likes of Hudson, Knowles or any black actress/singer on the scene today or to come.
