BRANDY SUED FOR $50 MILLION

Wednesday, January 31, 2007

brandysued.jpg
actual footage from the accident via TMZ.com

The parents of the woman killed in a car crash involving Brandy are suing the R&B singer for $50 million.

TMZ obtained the lawsuit filed today in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Lawyers for the family of the deceased claim, “Defendant Brandy Norwood was driving recklessly in the freeway when her car collided with Awatif Aboudihaj’s car.”

The $50 million lawsuit seeks both compensatory and punitive damages.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles City Attorney is considering the CHP’s recommendation to criminally charge Brandy with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. VIEW THE LAWSUIT DOCUMENT

I mean it was going to come sooner or later. It would be even worse if the police proceeds with that vehicular manslaughter charge, where she can face up to a $1,000 fine and a year in jail. Doubt if it will go that far but, what a web woven for Brandy…

But then again, should she be charged with something? We see celebs get off all the time just for being famous, yet she wasn’t drunk or drugged. Is a $50 million reward to the family is enough?

Poor Brandy!! She will ride this one out like any other celebrity. Play it cool, get some press out of it, and say sorry a million times. Cry in a Diane Sawyer interview, then release your next album.

Lemme stop. But on the real, this is bad but it’s not doomsday for Brandy. She will just have to pay some bills and do some community service most likely. She will come out on top and hopefully with some better weave.

Look out for Brandy’s next project, a PSA commercial for reckless driving.

This is horrible. I feel sorry for everyone involved. The family of the deceased as well as Brandy and her family. It is clear from the previous blog on Brandy that she was distraught after the incident. The article say’s she got out of her car and was yelling it was her fault and walking into traffic. It was obvious that it was not intentional and she was not drugged up. I can not even count the many times I was almost in an accident and the Lord spared my life. It was an accident but unfortunately, very unfortunately it cost a family the life of their loved one…however my question is what is $50 million going to do? Will it bring back the deceased from the dead? If one of us (non celebrities) were to hit and God forbid kill someone would we be sued for $50 Million? No, because we obviously don’t have $50 to give…or at least I don’t. I don’t want to be insensitive but I think it is very odd that they are requested $50 Million.

Once again…my heart goes out to all involved. I would hate to be on either side of the fence.

50 million dollars! The defense attorney said on the news, that if it wasn’t Brandy who killed the women, he would still be suing for 50 million….. Yea right!

50 millions dollars is a ridiculous amount of money, it was an accident! These people just want to get paid and that’s just sad, you can’t put a price on someone’s life.

Okay concreteloop….why did you guys have to put up a picture of BRANDY that looks like she’s CRAZY and DURRANGED as HELL! That does NOT help out the situation at ALL….

But seriously, I seen this coming. Not $50 million dollers worth, but I had a feeling that they were going to sue. But my question is how much MONEY do you put on a LIFE? Or is $50 million dollars going to help you sleep at night? People KILL me with the $$$ amounts they come up with! Or WHOEVER came up with it. If it was not “BRANDY”, would you still be sueing? Or would the N*GGA just be in JAIL?! *rolls eyes*

This was VERY sad to hear about, and when I heard about it my prayers went out to both the FAMILY and Brandy. And while I understand that Brandy has to take her blame in the accident, I don’t think anything can make her suffer more then what she probally ALREADY is, having to deal with the fact that her neglagence caused LIFE. That’s ALREADY a BIG price to pay. That’s just my opinion.

*On a side note, how in the HELL did they come up with that $$$ amount? Who the HELL they thought they were sueing…OPRAH?!! Is BARNDY even worth close to that?

I am an auto claims adjuster and people get rear ended everyday and this particular situation is odd because of the charges. Unfortunately, accidents can be fatal and I doubt the DA will seriously indite Brandy, unless she fled the scene or was under the influence.

To prove reckless driving, there would need to be an independent witness or some type of evidence. But, the CHP recommending the charges opened the gate for the civil suit.

Without any wrongdoing or charges filed, the family can sue for Brandy’s auto policy limits. By the family jumping the gun and filing a suit now, it makes me wonder if they are money-hungry or have people (attorneys) taking advantage of their grief.

Keep your head up Brandy. God will not let people hurt you for their own gain. They cannot take away the truth and don’t let them have your dignity.

Maybe Brandy’s EYES were too far apart to see the lady. Was Brandy sippin on “Brandy?” Instead of Ray J by her side it might have been “E & J” I know they “said” she wasn’t drinking or on drugs. Wasn’t she seen driving like the next day? Somebody please put Brandy back in driver’s ed! I mean I just don’t feel safe until they do. “shivers”

I truly think this is sad. And the media will not let her come up for air since this hit the news. Accidents happens and no one ever wants sum1 to die from a car accident. I was just in a head on collision a few months back and it only buy the grace of GOD I’m still here! I dont think she should be charged but the law is the law. And they could be getting her cus she reportedly was on the phone, and depending on your state that does carry some offense.

But she will be in my prayers I think her conscious is going to eat her alive.

THAT IS NOT TOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People kill me when they say it’s too much, that woman’s life was worth MUCH MORE than that, it was priceless, so how 50 million dollars too much? That’s a FRACTION of her worth. Had it been YOUR MAMA in that car, you wouldn’t feel sorry for Brandy ONE BIT so quit playing that “oh it’s so unfair” song. You know what’s UNFAIR? The fact that somebody’s momma, somebody’s sister, somebody’s daughter DIED. Brandy caused the accident, even if it was an accident it was still her fault, she’s LUCKY she ain’t going to jail and I’m sure she’s still thanking the Lord for that, she’s rich enough to pay this, still getting that MOESHA money. I feel a little bad for Brandy, but she is responsible for the death of someone else.

AND GUESS WHAT? Brandy can still get that money back by working hard, but that woman will NEVER be able to take her life back. Ain’t nothing unfair about asking that amount of money.

“I feel for Brandy but y’all know if Brandy hit you and stubbed your toe as a result, all y’all would be filin suits right now”!

See I don’t like when people group people together just because that’s what THEY would do in a situation. No I would not sue her. why? Because i’m a decent person, and have enough money to take care of myself. Now her medical insurence would have to reimburst my insurance, lol, but that’s about it. If i’m alive and well, then it’s all good. I feel what everyone is saying about this sueing situation. People can’t wait to sue somebody. It’s very annoying.

Boi Stop! It was an accident! Brandy wasn’t intoxicated, under any influence, or any of that. Its called an accident for a reason. The situation is very unfortunate, but things happen. There was no intent and I don’t think she should be charged. As for the lawsuit, its only because they know she has money. Had it been me, they would just be seeking prosecution. This is about money and that is sad; what a shame that this woman’s life has a price!

Its very interesting that you can read court documents on the net. Brandy is going to really suffer through a trial but the family is suffering a huge loss and people should not lose sight of that.
She caused the accident so in their eyes she is liable for this woman’s death. Also, they ask for a lot of money because they know it will be less at the end of the lawsuit. The attorneys want to get their cut too. But we also have to keep in mind that she has left behind a child. This child will be forever affected mentally and financially. Someone has to pay and thats going to be Brandy. Ask yourself, what would you do if it was your loved one that was killed and it was proven that they were negligent. Add to it that this person is a celebrity and knowing the history of celebs getting a slap on the wrist. If it was me, I would ask for the maximum of the law and let the courts decide in the end. Money does not bring people back but it can really put a punishment on people who live extravagantly. And lets not forget that the money does not have to come from her bank account. Real estate, investments, and personal property will be exposed in the courts. The courts will ask Brandy to submit a financial statement which means everything she has has a monetary value.

Attorneys are greedy and they add fuel to the fire, just ask OJ. He was sued for oooh weee how much and probably hasn’t paid anything yet because it’s damn near impossible to pay those large settlements. Attorneys know it, but they advise their clients. I don’t think it’s fair to blame Ms. Aboudihaj’s family for asking for $50M. They’ll probably never get it, but attorneys shoot for the sun so that if they land on the clouds, they’ll still come out alright.

I’m just surprised that this accident happened on the 405 Freeway because anyone and their momz knows that in LA, that freeway is ALWAYS JAMMED LIKE A PARKING LOT. What may have happened is that when a break came in traffic everybody started driving fast out of relief…hence, an accident.

JANEE

@ # 20 Chante…

I feel some of what you’re saying, about the woman’s life being priceless and all, but look at your statement….

Exhibit A:”she’s rich enough to pay this”

SMH..and that’s the mentality of some people. That’s all folks think about. But if it wasn’t “Brandy”, how much should they sue for then?…You know, if they’re not a person that’s rich enough to pay $50 million. How much do you sue for then? Not enough argument for you? Okay….

Exhibit B: “she’s LUCKY she ain’t going to jail”

Your d@mn right she is. But considering the fact that there is much more that goes into this whole situation, more then just Brandy’s negligence. I’m sure she did not wake up in the morning thinking “You know what, I feel like killing someone today.” And for that reason I think that people shouldn’t go around branding her as a MURDERER! It was an ACCIDENT. Last but not least…

Exhibit C:”Had it been YOUR MAMA in that car, you wouldn’t feel sorry for Brandy ONE BIT so quit playing that “oh it’s so unfair” song”.

That depends on the situation. Like I said before, it was an ACCIDENT. People try to forgive others for ACCIDENTS. Noones saying that Brandy shouldn’t pay a price, but after knowing that you not paying attention to the road for one second is the cause of some bodies death is price enough. Oh my bad, let’s just throw $50 million dollars on it as well, because she’s “Brandy” and can supposedly afford it.

I’ll give you an example of when someone should SUE…

In my town a few months ago this women, along with three children were driving on a two-lane street, both going opposite directions. A man coming the opposite direction was IMPATIENT and took it upon himself to past the car in front of him and end up hitting the women HEAD-ON. Two of the little boys died (one of them was my nephews friend), the woman was in CRITICAL condition for I don’t know how long as well as the other child. They both can’t walk right now, and they are saying that the other little boy may NEVER walk again. But I have not heard anything about them SUEING the man. You want to know why? Because when someone takes a life of a LOVED one (over IGNORANCE), you don’t want their MONEY you want THEM! And that’s why the MAN is getting PROSECUTED and more then likely he will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Because that’s what he deserves! Because, unlike BRANDY, the court said that 10 years ago the man did the same exact thing and caused a car crash….

So, you’re right. Her life was worth more then $50 million, so why SUE, if LIFE is so PRICELESS.

I rest my d@mn case! I swear I am MAJORING in the wrong thing. I need to be MAJORING in CRIMINAL JUSTICE with all that BRILLIANCE I just did.

50 million dollars isn’t going to bring the women back. You said so yourself that the women’s life was priceless, so why put a price on it? Obviously, the family was going to sue and they have every right to do so, but you have to admit that 50 millions dollars is a ridiculous amount of money.

What does suing Brandy for 50 million dollars solve? Is it going to make Brandy a better driver?
Is it going to prevent her from a future ACCIDENT ?
If it had(God forbid) been you driving that car would they have sued you for 50 million?
Is it going to bring the women back to life?

The family should just stop it right there and just let their daughter rest in peace. The $50 mil will not bring her back and it will certainly not ease their pain.

Brandy, 27, was driving on Dec. 30 when traffic slowed and her vehicle hit Aboudihaj’s, a CHP report said.

Aboudihaj’s car hit another vehicle, slid sideways into the center divider and was then hit by another car, the report said. Aboudihaj, a Los Angeles waitress, died at a hospital from blunt-force injuries, according to the coroner’s office.

Would the other drivers be sued to?….
Ah well, that’s how it is in the US…..money heals all woes and grief

That poor woman’s parents are turning her tragic death into a get rich fiasco. People wanna dam near hang brandy for an “accident”. She wasn’t high, drunk or running her mouth on the phone. She took her eyes off the road for a moment (from what I hear) and don’t we all do that? Her carelessness cost a life yes but $50mil? If she wasn’t rich n famous all they would be asking for would be the policy limits on her vehicle. My prayers go out to the family for their loss but I must SMH at cashing in on their daughter’s death.

Now this is some shit…cause no matter what you say you know damn well that if that had been your daughter/wife/mother that was killed in that car accident you’d be wailing that the person who caused the accident needs to pay. Whether it be by going to jail, paying a fine (which wouldn’t be enough), or paying some huge settlement.

The woman who was killed left behind a small child? Brandy should pay. Due to her negligience that baby just lost her provider. That responsibility now falls on the grandparents who may or may not have that kind of money. Brandy should pay something…maybe not 50 million (that’s just the lawyers…the parents would never have thought up that sum) but she should contribute to a fund for the baby.

First of all this could have happened to anyone of us. It just happen to Brandy! She will have to live with this forever, that’s punshiment enoughh. The victims lawyer already looked into Brandy pockets to see that she has a enough revenue to pay 50 million dollars. Brandy has been out for 12 years. She has Americas got talent, Covergirl, Moesha, Thea, Hair weave, Houses, Cars, Movies sje has been it, and music. She will be alright. Just pray that this won’t happen to anyone of us. Did you ever think that it could have been your mother or sister who killed somone by accident and people were beening cruel to them? Did you think that maybe that woman stopped suddendly and brandy could’nt stop fast enough? We don’t know what really happen. Would you guys still be saying this evil stuff if it was Beyonce?

These situation could happen to any one of us.

Brandy didn’t mean to get in an accident.

I feel bad for both Brandy & the family of the young lady who died in this terrible crash.

Brandy must be under a great deal of stress, facing both jail time & cival lawsuits.

I think that we as a community should PRAY for her.

Peace

I feel bad for the family. It was an unfortunate accident. You knew the lawsuit was going to come. The family will not get $50 million. They will get under $5. The police didnt arrest Brandy nor did it come to light for almost a month. If she was drinking or under the influence of drugs I would say they would get more. But it was just an unfortunate accident.

It’s sad that this has happened. I can see the family wanting some type of compensation. I think she could have at least offered to pay for her funeral, give her kids a college fund or something. My brother died in 05 and the people that were involoved set out to do what they did to him. In that case since it was something malicious then I can see suing them for money but if it wasn’t intentional I’m not for sure if I would. ( I can say that now because I’m not in that situation) I’ve learned in my pain that you can have all the money in the world but that won’t bring them back and it won’t lessen the pain. As I said before I can feel a gospel cd coming on. I know I’m wrong for saying it but it’s happened before. A star has sonething tragic happen to them and then they start to get their life together. I don’t know what Brandy’s situation was but God allowed it to happen for some reason.

This is horrible for everyone involved, no amount of money can bring a human being back, I still say that 50 million dollars is a lot. I would hope I wouldn’t do the same if I were in the husband’s shoes. But since I’m not I honestly don’t know what I would do.

I don’t know about 50 million dollars, but I do think punitive damages should definitely be awarded all hospital and funeral expenses paid, counseling for the family, education paid for, monthly support 5x’s what the mother contributed to the household for the child and the child should also have a trust fund.

Matthew Broderick killed two people and he was only fined $175.00.

They are only doing this because she is a celebrity. Bottom line I feel for the family but there would be no suing going on if she wasn’t rich duh! It was accident. Accident happens every day. brandy was not high, drunk or anything.

This is a sad situation and i feel horrible for Brandy cause I am and always will be a huge fan. But I have to say I think the media played a huge part in these peoples decision to sue as well as CHP to try to press charges.

I mean relly people this happened OVER A MONTH AGO!!! No one was screaming sue then. If the media had not plasted the unfortunate event all over the TV and web this family would not have had people and lawyers all in their ear convincing them to sue and CHP would not be feeling presure to try and file charges all of a sudden.

And why are the parents sueing and not her husband for the sake of his child. Clearly if he did nto want to take that route then the parents should back off.

But the fact of the matter is that even of they win the case the odds of thes people getting that money are silm. Look at the most famous case we all know OJ did it and he has yet to pay the Browns or the Goldmans ANY of their money and its been over TEN years.

This is a sad sitution and my prayers go out to this womans husbad and child as well as the entire Norwood family. LOVE YOU B ROCCA KEEP YA HEAD UP!!!

This is a sad situation and a lose-lose for Brandy either way. I feel bad for her cause it was an accident and accidents do happen, but I feel for the family of the victim of the family cause her lack of attention and recklessness killed their daughter. I agree with their lawsuit, and the criminal charge was bound to come along….I feel she should be charged and fined, but I dont think she should have to do jail time.

I AM A VERY BIG FAN OF BRANDY. THE ACCIDENT WAS AN TRAGIC EVENT, I PRAY SHE POLICE DON’T TRY TO MAKE AN EXAMPLE OUT OF HER BY CHARGING HER WITH VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER.

FOR THAT WOMAN’S PARENTS TO WANT $50 MILLION, IS A BIT MUCH. THEY’RE ONLY ASKING FOR THAT MUCH BECAUSE SHE IS A CELEBRITY.

BRANDY HAS WORKED TOO HARD TO GET WHERE SHE IS AT. ACCIDENTS HAPPEN EVERYDAY, AND ITS ONLY GETTING THIS ATTENTION BECAUSE SHE IS FAMOUS.

KEEP YOUR HEAD UP BRANDY!!!

She shouldn’t get off because she’s a celebrity, but no amount of money is gonna bring the woman back. She admitted to being responsible for the accident because she wasn’t paying attention. I think the fact that her careless actions left 2 parents, a husband, and 2 kids without a loved one is gonna be a lifetime sentence for her.
