The parents of the woman killed in a car crash involving Brandy are suing the R&B singer for $50 million.
TMZ obtained the lawsuit filed today in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Lawyers for the family of the deceased claim, “Defendant Brandy Norwood was driving recklessly in the freeway when her car collided with Awatif Aboudihaj’s car.”
The $50 million lawsuit seeks both compensatory and punitive damages.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles City Attorney is considering the CHP’s recommendation to criminally charge Brandy with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. VIEW THE LAWSUIT DOCUMENT
I mean it was going to come sooner or later. It would be even worse if the police proceeds with that vehicular manslaughter charge, where she can face up to a $1,000 fine and a year in jail. Doubt if it will go that far but, what a web woven for Brandy…
But then again, should she be charged with something? We see celebs get off all the time just for being famous, yet she wasn’t drunk or drugged. Is a $50 million reward to the family is enough?

WE all need to shut uo because we were not there we do not know what really happened. It is called an accident because that is what it was. I ran in back of people by accident 2 because they stopped suddenly, and automattically the person who hits from behind is at fault. Let it rest what if it was your mother who accidently ran in the back of someone and she killed someone what would you say then. Just pray for everyone involved.
oh okay i feel ya windstalker.

Police Want ‘Prison Break’ Star Charged
By DAISY NGUYEN – AP
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (Feb. 1) – “Prison Break” actor Lane Garrison should be charged with manslaughter and drunken driving for a car crash that killed a teenage passenger and injured two others, police said Wednesday.
Shocking Allegations From Witnesses
Police Chief David L. Snowden said investigators have asked county prosecutors to charge Garrison, 26, with felony gross vehicular manslaughter; driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Investigators recommended that the DUI allegation carry the enhancement that he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 percent or more. An adult driver in California is legally over the limit at 0.08 percent.
Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney, said that the police report was under review but that no decision had been made on whether to file charges.
Garrison’s Land Rover jumped a curb and struck a tree Dec. 2, killing 17-year-old Beverly Hills High School student Vahaghn Setian and injuring two 15-year-old girls also in the vehicle. Garrison suffered minor injuries.
Garrison’s attorney, Harland Braun, said the police decision to announce details of the investigation before charges have been filed was “a totally irresponsible thing.”
“It was basically a public trial … designed to influence potential jurors,” Braun said.
Braun said he had not yet seen any of the evidence or police reports on the investigation.
Snowden said Garrison had a blood-alcohol level of 0.20 percent. After the crash, police said, the actor volunteered to submit a blood sample, and analysis of it found he also had cocaine in his system.
Police were waiting to hear from the district attorney’s office before making an arrest.
If charged and convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter, Garrison, a Dallas native who plays “Tweener” on the Fox drama, could face up to 10 years in prison.
Braun has said previously that Garrison met the youths at a grocery store and accompanied them to a party, where he had one drink. He told the Los Angeles Times that Garrison didn’t remember anything about the accident after waking up in a hospital.
Snowden alleged that Garrison gave alcohol to the teens more than once that evening.
The Garrison case marked the second time this week that crash investigators have asked for charges against a Hollywood celebrity in a traffic death.
On Monday, the California Highway Patrol recommended to the Los Angeles city attorney that actress-singer Brandy, 27, be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter for a freeway chain-reaction crash that killed a woman motorist in December.
#104 The point is when your dead what your worth does not matter because at the end of the day Brandy have to live with that death on her mind so money is worthless than you having your life so what if she have the money to pay for what happen but this will be a inprint on her life for ever.So what If Beyonce is worth 2000 million does that money make her when she comes to the crossroad of death? No! It doesn’t matter so why does it matter to you but my question for you is how do you value your life?
“Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as factors in the crash, and there is no evidence that Brandy was using a cell phone or was otherwise distracted at the time of the crash. She was in her car alone, Tang said.” So for all the people saying that she was on a cell phone, that has not been proven and if that was a fact, they could pull up records to see if she was on the phone. So people that is a rumor, stop saying that.
People I understand that the lady died because of Brandy, not going to argue that, but 50 million dollars. Are you serious, people are all about money these days. I don’t think that they will get that much, because they cannot prove anything but it being a accident. I hope that it all passes and Brandy and the family can work out a deal. But I bet if this had been a regular person, the family just would have sued the insurance company, not the person. It happenes all the time, what makes this case so different? The fact that Brandy is famous and has money, America is so screwed when it comes to money.
I know that a lady’s life was lost, and that is sad. The family is just being greedy. Yes, you can say what if that was your family member. BUT what if you were Brandy? I am sure that most of you have been in car accidents that was your fault because you mis-judged the distance to stop or you looked off for a second, whatever. None of us was in the car with Brandy, in fact no one was, so the only people that know what TRULY happened is God and the people involved. Let the case take its course and see what happenes. Look at the facts and right now, no matter what you want to believe no matter the rumors it was just an accident and she did not mean to do that. I think she wants to do something to help the family, but media don’t know that and they are not trying to give the girl a chance.
I find it a little ridiculous that the family of the deceased has filed a lawsuit BEFORE the insurance company has even paid out the policy limits as the claims adjuster stated. This is so unfortunate for ALL involved, but it doesn’t change the fact that Brandy was the DIRECT cause of an accident that killed someone. 50mil is a little outrageous, but I expected her to be sued. There’s no way that she will be indicted, but I don’t believe that the she is being targeted unfairly by the prosecutor. However, I do think the deceased’s family is having a bad case of the GREEDIES!
@233 Gangsterprincess
first you sound maad ignorant. GangsterPrincess?shouldnt you be causing accidents doing drivebys or something?
Brandy was probably on the cell phone or digging in her purse or doing her makeup in the rearview mirror like all yall women do…women should be banned from the road.
and you should be banned from opening your mouth….
You think 50 mil is too much when she is already going to get off scottfree! PUHLEASE! A woman is dead here because of Brandy’s carelessness. They will never get her back and Brandy will not do the time she deserves… I think they deserve well over that 50mil. I would want some sort of damages award, too. Thankfully that isn’t my sister that was in the crash. A slap on the wrist just isn’t enough to me. She should do time for that lost life. If that were one of us we would have to do time… thats just real. Her celeb status should not get her off. I like her as an artist but let the punishment stand as it would for any other so called citizen…
Miss Complexity..
I don’t support R Kelly either. He will get what he deserves in the next life. Undoubtedly…
I don’t even think she has 50 million dollars!!!
#233 I think 248 had it right, maybe you should go do a drive by! ha ha ha you stupid bitch. what kinda princess you know also a gangsta!!!
Greedy people will also get what they deserve….
um brandy can afford 50mill stupid 3multi platnum albums 3top rating tvmovies 2 blockbusters covergirl dkny and candies moesha 7years thats 50mill alone with just moesha she worked with whitney diana and gladys this girl is paid she aint oprah but u get my point really add up the points 50mil chump change but damn 50milllllllllllll what i can do with that and is a undercover producer and we know they make bank haaaaaaaaaaa 50 mill
if it was my family member killed in a car accident, i would take brandy to the bank, if i gotta suffer a loss, she would suffer one too. i would have her living at a homeless shelter when im done. I say this because she wasn’t drinking, she wasn’t on drugs, then what was she doing when she hit the car from behind?????
BRANDY COME BACK TO JESUS LEAVE THAT SCIENTOLOGY MESS ALONE!
ok…..now why wouldnt brandy be worth more than $50 million..yall crazy, she is worth so much more than that…it seems as if yall think just cuz she hasnt had a album im a couple of years that she is broke…not the case she does much more than singing..well to get to the point i did a lil researching and many professinal mags estimate her worth to be between 300-200 million, with a average looking like 250million.. but i really do feel bad for her in this situation, everyne knows that she is a good person, but the people that are trying to sue here wont get anymore than what the insurance pays….and just for the record beyonce will never be as big as brandy….even if u add destany childs albums together with beyonces, beyonce still comes up short…music is about much more than looks…but keep both fams in prayer

You know you could expect that from a bunch of indians. They drive a nice fancy car that was totalled. Many foreign people come here and and they go crazy for the green. I’m sorry but 50 million is just a bit much, and by time the family sueing brandy finishes paying for all the court fees they aren’t going to have any money left. I think that the family sueing brandy is quiet greedy. maybe they could just settle for ten million. The woman in dead, this is life and shit happens. Now if the sdame lady had been struck by some average everday person would they be sueing him for 50 million???? I bet once they realized that brandy was an icon in the music industry, their eyes got big and all that could be seen in them was gold and dollar signs. A person must pay but if your going to profit off the death off a dead family member that is sick. but hey if they get their 50 million i think that problems in their own family will ensue. more money more problems??
Brandy should go to jail for that, that women had a family who was expecting her to come home that day,if it where anybody else they would probably have life or be on death row just because she is famous shouldn’t mean a damn thing
