I knew Taye Diggs personally (Rochester, NY) and when he was last discussed her at CL ,many black women felt that his comments (including me) put us in a bad light. Fact: America looks the way that it does because laws, policies, practices (economic, political) were intentionally put in place to keep races separate. The notions of ‘race mixing’ and ‘inter-breeding’, were put forth by white men to protect white men (even though white men routinely pro-created with black women — light skinned black folks were NOT shipped in from Africa).

If these laws were NOT put in place, people would naturally gravitate to whomever they were around and were attracted to. Poor whites, poor blacks, and some Native Americans lived in very close proximity to one another and ofter worked alongside one another.

My comment regarding the ‘physical characteristics’ of what a ‘modern American’ would look like is pretty clear. Brazilians looks the way they do because they are a combination of three blood lines (African, Southern European, and Indigenous). A modern American would likely be a combination of African, Northern and Southern European, Native American, and Asian.

I’m kinda understand your comment just by some of MY OWN EXPERIENCES. Take this one for example:

Yesterday I’m out grocery shopping with my husband(he’s Puerto Rican but is always mistaken for a white guy) in a grocery store that most of us black people and PR shop. We go in and soon see two more IR couples(both black men and white women). Me and my man are going about our business but BOTH of the black guys are looking at my man like they’re ready to beat him down. They following us around the store and their girlfriends are acting the same way with me. We ignore them, finish our shopping and are in line. Then the security guard(black man) looks over at me and shakes his head as if I’m a disgrace or something. The white female cashier (that was talking with the security guard before she painstakenly returned to checkout to attend to us) began forcefully throwing our things into the bags to the point were my husband had to ask her to be careful.

My questions are:
What made us so different from the other two couples that the security guard and the cashier paid special attention to us?
Why would the other two IR couples act this way towards us?
