DRAMA @ THE GLOBES: ISAIAH V.S GREY’S ANATOMY
Wednesday, January 17, 2007

The cast of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ may have left as winners on Monday night, but that didn’t stop them and star Isaiah Washington from being the center of drama the day afterwards:
In the Globes press room on Monday, Washington tried to set the record straight in regards to reports in October of an on-set incident that resulted from the alleged use of a homophobic slur toward co-star T.R. Knight.
After a reporter questioned the validity of the on-set incident, Washington denied his involvement saying, “No, I did not call T.R. a faggot. Never happened, never happened.” VIEW VIDEO OF PRESS ROOM INTERVIEW
So what’s the big deal right? Well, his answer left the cast as well as alot of fans thinking he is an a-hole:
In response to Washington’s use of the slur when addressing the situation last night, [costar Katherine] Heigl spoke out.
“I’m going to be really honest right now, he needs to just not speak in public. Period. I’m sorry, that did not need to be said, I’m not okay with it,” Katherine told Shaun.
Does he sound like an a-hole to you?:
After making his comments in the press room, Washington came straight to Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush and Nancy O’Dell to explain.
“There is no way I could do anything so vile, and so horrible, not only to a castmate, but to a fellow human being,” he insisted…
Washington also said that he and co-star Patrick Dempsey have moved beyond the October incident.
“I kiss Patrick Dempsey. We sing ‘Ebony and Ivory’ everyday since the so-called incident and it hasn’t come up. We purposely sing ‘Ebony and Ivory’ every night since October 9 and nobody has written about it,” he added.
Can’t we all just get along?

I don’t think that it’s a “black thing”(the whites having something against him), yes, it happened months ago, but ‘where there’s smoke, there’s always fire’. He should really just keep his mouth shut, cause seems to me everytime he opens it, there’s trouble. I’m always ‘team black’ and have been supporting Isaiah, but now I’m starting to wonder. You can’t have everybody pointing a finger at you and not question wether the problem is, or does really lie with you.
Anyway. It feels good to be back on CL after such a long time.

I get the feeling he is just as big an asshole off set as he is on. I can’t stand his character on ‘Grey’s’.
He needs to sit down somewhere and stop talking about this nonsense. It will ruin his career.

Well I would like to say the use of the word “faggot” was VERY unnecessary. As I am a gay person myself, I totally understand why its offensive. Of all words to say, he says “faggot”? I love Isiah but there’s more to this story no one is talking about I think which is why Katherine spoke out the way she did. Think about it…she must have been PRETTY pissed to say what she said in PUBLIC and of all places, the Golden Globes PRESS ROOM. She even said “I know I’ll probably get in trouble for saying this but oh well…”. She was a little unprofessional about it but a person can only take so much which is why I think other stuff may be brewing. I dont think we’ve heard the last of this and why is the race card being played? I think if Isiah werent Black, she would have still fealt the same way. Hurtful words are hurtful words period and it shouldnt take a gay person only to realize that

I have to say that he must be a little off. If someone accused you of saying something that is obviously offensive and you were asked about it why would you repeat the offensive word out loud while answering the question. What kind of sense does that make?? It doesn’t go well with your case that you don’t use that type of language.
Basically he poured more salt in the wound when he decided to repeat the slur.
As for #23, I’m one of the few people that doesn’t watch Grey’s Anatomy but if Morris Chestnut was on the show I’d be a faithful viewer. Maybe we should start a petition…………

And the way Isaiah’s handling this, I’m more inclined to believe that he’s not telling the “truth”.

T.R. Knight says hearing Isaiah Washington call him a “faggot” on the set of Grey’s Anatomy gave him the courage to come out of the closet – and that he’s speechless that Washington on Monday denied using the word.
In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres set to air Wednesday, Knight says something changed inside him when he overheard an argument in October between Washington and Grey’s co-star Patrick Dempsey during which Washington used the slur.
“It’s an awesome word, isn’t it?” the 33-year-old actor tells DeGeneres sarcastically. “I’ve never been called that to my face. So I think when that happened, something shifted, and it became bigger than myself.”
Shortly after the dustup, Knight confirmed exclusively to PEOPLE that he is gay – something he says wasn’t his style, but that he felt was necessary.
“I was under no delusions,” he says. “My friends on the set knew. We talked about it. Publicly it’s not my thing to call up PEOPLE magazine and be like, ‘Hey, you want to know something about me?’ … I could’ve just let it slide and not said anything, but it became important. It became important to make the statement.”
In the Golden Globe press room on Monday night, Washington denied using the slur. “No, I did not call T.R. a faggot,” he told Access Hollywood. “Never happened, never happened.”
That statement drew a sharp rebuke from another Grey’s co-star, Katherine Heigl, who said Washington “needs to just not speak in public.” And Knight tells DeGeneres he doesn’t know what to make of the denial.
“I don’t know what to say, really, about that,” he says.
Knight also thanks DeGeneres for having the courage to come out as a lesbian 10 years ago. “It just made all the difference in the world,” he says.

there was supposedly an argument that everyone on the set heard - it wasn’t a private conversation.
The bigger issue still is that Isiah acknowledged that he made comment in October, but now he is denying it.
This is a news article quote:
In October, it came to light that “Grey’s Anatomy” star Isaiah Washington had allegedly called co-star T.R. Knight a “little faggot” on the set. Washington soon released a statement saying he regretted his “unfortunate use of words” and had “nothing but respect for my co-workers.”

This is NOT a Black-White issue.
He is a professional and he is on the #1 show on ABC, the #1 show in the 18 to 49 Demo, and the show is fighting CSI weekly for the #1 Drama on television in the ratings.
He get’s paid handsomely for being on this show, a show that if I may add, wears it’s diversity very proudly on it’s sleeve. A show that is the brainchild of an African American woman who is being paid brillianly for her efforts. A show that features 3 African American actors playing the 3 most PROMINENT AND HIGH RANKING people in the hospital (Dr. Burke is the Head Cardio Thorasic Surgeon in the country, Dr. Bailey is the Head of the Surgical Intern Program, and the Chief of the whole damn hospital is Black.)
So with all of this, why is he acting a damn fool? Why couldn’t he give a more dignified answer? Why did he have to rehash the incident by using the word again? And why the hell is he lying? TR Knight is going to appear on Ellen and when Ellen asked him what happened, he tells the truth, Washington called him a faggot.
It’s not about not being able to let go because he is Black. It’s about him not being a damn professional. Why would you give ANY ONE ammo against you when you are in a position like he is? Grey’s will be scrutinized because like I said above, it’s the #1 show. People want to hear about in-fighting.
I’m sure Washington realizes how hard it is for an African American actor to get a good role on TV. WHY is he fucking it up? I’m sure there are plenty of other out of work Black actors who would kill to play his role and would do it with no backstage drama.
I know I’m in the minority here with this issue. I just hate how people pull out the race card when they know damn well the dude is wrong. I don’t care what people do or say in their lives because it doesn’t affect me personally, but I find it annoying when people who are in a really good position act a damn fool. Don’t act like a fucking stereotype of the “Angry Black Man” and don’t ruin all of Shondra Rhimes hard work. It’s bad enough she set the bar high with the quality of her show. She has to weekly be consistent, and doesn’t need this bullshit, or a shakeup that would require extensive re-writes and work arounds.
Screw it. They should just make Burke’s character come out of the closet as Gay male.
59.

He should just say no comment. He knows he said it and needs to stop lying. I’m pretty sure everyone on the set is uncomfortable with him. Clearly Katherine Heigl is not over it and neither is Knight. He should just apologize and probably in public. A gay person being called a faggot carries just as much hate to them as a black person being called a nigger. Washington should relaize that…
Nontheless I still love the show despite all of their off set drama!!! And I love his character and would hate to see him get kicked off because of pride or whatever. Own up to you mistakes and get over it.

I’ve never seen 1 episode, so I personally don’t care. However, on this, I’m going to play devil’s advocate. It sounds to me like they’ve wanted him out for some time. This is just their prime excuse to get rid of him. That whole “he’s hard to work with” routine. You knew he was hard to work with from the get go. Stop pretending here. Also, he should stop fielding these questions. It’s a set up. They put a microphone in front of him, as soon as he answers the question, they run and yell he’s talking about it. No, it’s called an interview. What Isaiah should do is announce before someone hands a mic in his face that he’s not going to talk about the T.R. situation and that it’s water under the bridge. Watch them all back away. That’s what you do, take their power away so they don’t have any levirage over you. But that’s just my take here. What do you guys think?

We’ve got a long way to go, folks. There is alot of anger and bitterness w/in. Very often, the anger is not w/the proverbial “White man,” but it’s familial.
Way too many black women don’t speak to black men. Way too many black men walk around w/scowls on there faces. This behavior is a prescription for negativity.
I have loving family members who go to church on every Sunday, and sometimes more, yet, they’ll curse somebody at the drop of a hat.
We’ve got to go w/in self, and find that joy about life. We are only on this earth for a moment. There are times anger will come, but it shouldn’t be on one’s sleeve, as a action or reaction, to all.

Well I’ve been told that the word faggot is just as offensive as the word nigger in the gay realm, and the fact that he keeps bringing it up suggest to me that his job is in jeopardy.
Also why the hell does he keep denying anything happened if the co-stars of the show are going public saying it did? He NEEDS to do just as ole girl said and keep his trap shut. He’s making himself look even more like a fool.
And BTW…saying he kisses Patrick Dempsey and sings Ebony & Ivory is the ultimate tap dance for white people. Isaiah..what’s up with that statement????

Isaiah Washington has a bad rep. He seems he has made a lot of mistakes in his career!
Something similar happened on the set of “Soulfood”. This is very sad b/c he is so talented!
I think he should be fired.
In trying to defend himself, he insulted T.R. Knight again! He needs some media training. He obviously doesn’t know how to handle tough questions.

Does he realize that he is on one of the most liked shows in the country and that its pretty much a presentation of how we as a nation can be together without any care of race and nationality. But all Isaiah wants to do is make a damn fool of himself and pretty much ruin the show completely. Shondra needs to give him half a paycheck or somethin because he needs to sit his ass down in the corner and stop actin a damn fool. Isaiah you’ve already made it big time so go take a prozac and just remember your lines cause when I saw that video I was shocked he would actually say it in front of the whole cast he couldn’tve just said “he didn’t say that?”

It’s just that Isaiah is representing black folks on ABC so he is making us seem even more homophobic than we are now. He needs to realize that the white media will find anything and everything against you to defame your name and when you keep acting crazy then you give them what they want, and we don’t want you off the show we just want you to stop acting out.

Thanks guys for the props on my comment.
I’m just saying man it’s insulting to us all when one of our own gets a great opportunity and fucks it up in front of America. He is so lucky to be on a #1 show. So lucky. You know how many brilliant aspiring actors are waiting tables at “The Cheesecake Factory” while this fool is acting a mess? It’s not fair.
I was equally pissed at Michelle Rodriguez. Here is a woman who was hand picked to appear on a mega hit show “Lost” and what does she do? Drinks and Drives and violates her probation. Why?
Then instead of admitting being wrong she lied and said her appearance was only going to be for one season. Bullshit. They don’t make you a series regular, only to kill you off 12 episodes later. And it was curious that her and the chick she got caught drunk driving with both got killed in the same episode. Don’t tell me that was all planned.
Bottom line, Minority actors need to really preserve what they are blessed to get. The opportunities for Minority actors to appear on hit shows are very very rare. Ask any of the people who work on the CW Monday Night comedy block, I’m sure many of them would kill to be on a show that reaches 25 million viewers a week like Grey’s.
Speaking of ratings, this is off topic, but how does American Idol NOT fall off? 37.7 million viewers at 8, then 41 million viewers at 9? That right there are some Superbowl numbers. Crazy!

Isaiah Washington wants to put himself in that realm of homosexuality but then lacks the discipline to not speak against it. You can’t bite the hand that feeds you. Hello, the “fags” run Hollywood and the government. He had the nerve to be a black man that called a caucasian “faggot” a “faggot” and then on top of that to choke “Dr. McDreamy”, the new Hollywood TV “sex symbol”, lol. I said when this issue first came up that it wasn’t over and it isn’t. It’s just getting started. After he gets written out of this show (eventually) he will never get another prime time telvision role again. He’s like a dead man walking. The man is so finished that he panders to that clown, Patrick Dempsey and sings “Ebony and Ivory” every day, lol. How pathetic. Isaiah could sing it TO Patrick Dempsey 2x a day and Dempsey still won’t forget his black ass picking him up off the ground like Darth Vader. Dempsey is just killing him with kindness because the producers have probably spoken with him behind the scenes and promised him that the “nigger” would go eventually. I gurantee you, had Dempsey said something about blacks (especially black men) black people would’ve forgiven him and the cast would’ve supported him, lol. Katherine Heigl speaking against him like that tells me that she feels like he’s fortunate to still be on the show so the only time he should be speaking is if it’s according to a script. Whether he’s lying or not is inconsequential because he’s finished anyway. It probably burns her to have to see that negro on the set everyday after he dared to speak a “homosexual slur”. Especially since homosexuals are such paragons of virtue, lmao. Imagine her doing that to Patrick Dempsey. She probably would’ve denied that the situation ever occurred or maybe coordinated an apology on David Letterman.
Like #12 said, he’s probably a homo his damn self. Most of these black men in entertainment allow themselves to get turned out so he gets what he deserves. If you’re gonna call someone or something out, be a man and stand up for what you believe in. When someone folds up like he’s doing, it makes even people that would like to support him doubt his credibility. He might as well acknowledge what he said, he’s a goner regardless.
@#58
You said it’s not a black and white issue but then you said it’s difficult for black men to land roles like the one Isaiah Washington landed, lol.

Why are people over-accepting of gays, this is the only way I know to say it…its like people have to be pro-gay, because if they are not they are hateful. I just want to say that I think it is immoral. People will think that is the most horrible thing to say, or people in charge of internet blogs may want to edit it. Why is it ok to say that you don’t see anything wrong with being gay, but its frowned up if you think it is wrong? I think part of the reason some gay people get upset if someone calls them on it is because they know in the back of their mind that it is not natural. (no animal arguments prove it is, even if two male birds were together, its still unnatural). I said this once and I will say it again: I’m sure the world would be a better place if all men were gay. This is definitely a sign of the times, in the last days, men will burn with desire for other men, and the dark ages begin again…

Isaiah doesn’t have to be accepting of homosexuality, but it’s common sense not to use derogatory terms to refer to another person, especially in a professional environment. I think Shondra wanted to stick by him…her initial response to the controversy was something along the lines of wanting to keep it “in house” and have it remain a “family matter.” She stood up for him. He’s a brilliant actor and should have had enough common sense to simply say that the issue had been resolved and leave it at not. He definitely shouldn’t have lied about it! He is a very good actor, I would hate to see him lose his job. Grey’s is a blessing, it’s a great show and a sista is behind it. He needs to just ride the gravy train and keep cool.

I think people are forgetting that in addition to yelling out a slur (it was not a quiet conversation), he physically attacked a costar that day. He’s apparently making everyone on the set uncomfortable. I wouldn’t want to work with a coworker like that. It has nothing to do with making YT happy or being over-accepting. It’s about respect and common courtesy. To top it all off, he’s lying about it to the public. Why can’t he learn to say “no comment” and let the incident die?

So you’re saying it’s ok to be a bigot as long as the Bible speaks against it?
Good grief. The only thing I can say is that gays are PEOPLE first and foremost. I would accept help from a gay person and give assistance to one if they needed help. As a Christian you would go to hell for turning your back on a fellow man because you’ve cast judgement upon him, and that isn’t your place. People should be able to live their lives without scrutiny, and it amazes me how we as Blacks love to bash homos when less than 60 years ago they would be allowed in the front door, given opportunities, and treated with respect while we were kicked, hosed, hung and murdered for being “different”. Funny thing…most places would still take a gay white man over a straight black one anyday.

I think there are two sides are THREE SIDES to this story. Is this the end of the fucking world? I mean seriously that homosexual TR Knight does NOT get my sympathy. He’s making it seem like as though Isaiah is going to kill him or something. He called him a bad word and he did apologize. Enough is enough they all need to move on.
1. Isaiah should just SHUT THE FUCK UP!! SHUT UP BROTHER! Shonda Rhimes is a good sister she SAVED his black ass the first time. I think that he should just keep quiet.
2. I believe Heigl and Knight have a vendetta against Washington its obvious they don’t like him. And I think its tacky of Knight to go on that white lesbian show Degeneres and cry about being a homosexual. I mean no one put a gun to Knight’s head to tell the world he was a gay. So I believe Knight and Heigl are at fault for BLOWING UP the situation and CREATING MORE DRAMA.
3. The media is RACIST. They are trying to make Isaiah look like the ANGRY HOMOPHOBIC BLACK MAN. Don’t people get it? Those WHITE HOMOSEXUALS so many of them are VERY ANTI BLACK. By the way they are all calling Isaiah a Nigger all over the web. That on TMZ.COM has comments on the board and people are so racist. SO the people supporting Knight should know the gay community are a bunch of racist hypocrites.
4. Some people are attacking Shonda on the web not on this site. I am proud of Shonda for supporting Isaiah. She has KNOWN him for a LONG TIME PRIOR to Grey’s Anatomy. I applaud her for having his back. Because I know if she wasn’t his boss they would of had him fired.

The ‘Ebony and Ivory’ thing was pure sarcasm and totaly unnecessary…please Isaiah gorw up…oh the word faggot, caries the same degrading meaning as nigger i.e other gay people can use it towards each other but coming from a straight guy , its offensive, (unless Isaiah is in a mega-star closet)
people in order for us to become better black man and women, we should stop playing the race card or blaming the system, but realise that some of our own people mess up and expect to be treated like victims, and Hollywood is a dog-eat-dog world even for white people, so its not about Isaiah’s skin, he must just grow up and realise he’s in a fierce industry where your temper-tuntrums, and your angry-black-man attitude wont get you anywhere (oh and by the way, there might even be an agenda to get him out…just askyourself WHY…interesting because he’s not the only black face on tv…so just stop justifying his stupid actions maybe advice him on the best manger management course to attend…Damn he’s not even all that to think that MAYBE he can pick and chose roles..

I. Washington always gave me the jerk vibe… and then I learned that he was an ex military man and was simply reserved and private and married to a true “Sista-girl”.
I’ll say this much, if I. Washington called him a faggot in front of the cast, how was he outting him? hey all knew he was gay. Whoever leaked the details from the set outted him.
What makes me truely skeptical about the entire incident and more curious of T.R Knight “hamming” up the special attention in hi s coming out period is tha T.R Knight himself admitted that he did NOT hear Isaiah Washington personally call him a faggot. Someone on the set relayed that information to him. and I have yet to hear someone come forward and say they actually heared him say it.
The man said publically that he did not do it, I can appreciate that comment (especially considering his entire cast was standing there) and say fuck the attention hams, which one of them are willing to say they actually heared him say it?

Is this show a popular TV Series ???
I’ve never seen it..
It’s seems to be popular with the ladies here on CL

The Only TV Program that I care about is the Soprano’s on A&E and that other TV’s series on A&E called “Dog, The Bounty Hunter”..Now, That’s my show !!!
Other than that, I don’t watch TV…
I rather read a good book or watch a DVD Movie…..

Bill (how you doing), Millions on top of millions tune in faithfully on Thusday nights to watch the very versatile cast of G.A. The best part is that a primetime show with this type of award-winning, faithful following, highly rated success is created by a very smart black woman. Grey’s is considered a milestone in television culture. I hope thses ignorant, big-headed actors don’t fuck it up for my girl Shonda Rhimes (creator).

Good Morning oliand1.
I googled “grey’s anatomy”, went over to the show’s website, and watched a clip of what will be shown on tonight’s show..
http://abc.go.com/primetime/greysanatomy/index
As I suspected, I wasn’t impressed..
It seems like a show that woman would like (no offense)..
A Very involved Plot, and you have to be invested in gettting to know the characters…..
I wouldn’t be able to sit still and watch this show for an hour….It looks very involved…There’s probably a lot of people dating, and getting in touch with their feelings..
no offense
that’s just my opinion

I saw TR on Ellen yesterday and he looks soooooo victimish. The bottom line is he is gay and they call gay’s the f-word, and for anyone to say that they have never used it is lying to themselves. In fact those that are complaining the most are probably the ones saying it the most. The f-word is defined in Websters as a male homosexual, and if I am not mistatken didn’t TR say that he was homosexual and the last I looked her is a man.
I think he is mad that they will have to go a whole different direction with his character and the girl. It ws a nice story before we found out he was gay.

#118 I think you need a refresher class in Bible study; the Lord may consider homosexuality a sin and he hates the sin, not the sinner; the Lord loves ALL people. And #123; what you’re saying is people can say ANYTHING offensive to anybody at anytime? Sure, sometimes being PC goes a little too far but you need to use common sense and be respectful of people’s feelings when using certain words.

Chicky,
Faggot is a derogatory term. Even if is his gay, and people use that word in private, you should never use it in a professional setting. I’ve seen women refer to each other as bitches and hoes when joking with their friends, but if I call one of my co-workers a bitch or a ho and other women are offened, I promise you I’ll be in the HR department getting some time of warning/write up.

To 148 aka Spikewebb:
That’s NOT what I said. I said people say things IN ANGER, everyone does.
I’m NOT going to defend him for being violent, that shit is just wrong. But, defend his right to say Faggot, yes, that IS the first amendment, FREE SPEECH.
Especially when it is SAID IN ANGER. People say horrible things they don’t really mean in anger. That’s because they’re not being rational.
Which is why I also defend Richards saying what he said. Again, he was pissed because the people he yelled Nigger at were harassing him. Richards reacted angrily.
I’m NOT saying it’s right, but IN ANGER people say some very dumb things. It’s not right that Isaiah said what he said, and not right that Richards said what he said.
However, NEITHER ONE was being rational when they said it, and again, there is the first amendment in America, which protects FREE SPEECH, which the Politically Correct people don’t want you to have.

I’ve been thinking about this, looking at information on other websites (mediatakeout.com, perezhilton.com) and I have come to the conclusion that this is a publicity stunt designed to bring attention to the Show…
Think about it: If YOU decided to call a Gay Person on YOUR Job a Fag, they would call you down to Human Resources and tell you that they are sorry to inform you that your job has been downsized, effective immediatly, that they would like to conduct a Exit Interview with you, and they would like for security to escort you off of the premises…
Isaiah Washington has called, TR Rider, a Faggot, THEN he got into a fight with another cast member, alienated everyone on the set of Grey’s Anatomy, THEN when a reported asked Isaiah Washington about the statement that others said that he made he replys
“No, I did not call T.R. a faggot. Never happened, never happened.”….
According to PerezHilton.com (Perez Hilton must be the Gayest dude on the Internet Blog scene) Homo’s all over the country are LOSING THEIR MINDS,writing Letters to ABC, and 1000 word Blogs stating that they will use all of their resources (The Velvet Mafia) to Get Isaiah Thrown off the show….
If they Get David Geffen (the don of the Velvet Mafia) involved, then it’s a wash……
There is SO much attention being given this “incident”, the ratings will probably DOUBLE…..
So, Either Isaiah Washington is a Very dumb person Which I doubt Highly…..He has a Nation full of Queen Guys & gals hating him, hissing at him, and writing nasty blogs about him…I’m sure he feels real bad about that….
or
He and the Producers of this Show (Which I have NEVER watched, no do I intend to..It’s looks boring), came up with an elaborate scheme to increase viewership….
Dag, I must be bored because I just came up with an entire conspiracy theory…
Whatever…

First of all I think grey’s anotomy sucks dick and is a fucking lousy show like all the other medical shows. This whole homo craze in hollywood is a motherfucking disease that is being spread and society as a whole is accepting this shit. Now every fucking guy in hollywood is “gay” and proud to be. This is bad fucking shit man. how come these clowns were’nt “gay” when they were making all the millions off of the screaming females? (lance bass of nsync-motherfucking hypocrite). because he wanted to leech the women of all their money. it’s bullshit that he would have affected the group. he could have left and made up some other excuse if he did’nt want to “affect” the group. That is just one example of how this shit is spreading and it’s like now it’s socially accetable which is just showing the degradation of society. If homo’s have a problem with the word faggot what would they say if they were called cocksuckers? They could’nt deny it. And plus a homosexual is a term for someone who is gay so if they are called a homo why would they be offended because this is just a short form of the word that is used to describe them. The fact of the matter is that if gays have to “come out” it just proves that something is not right about being gay. if it was right why would you have to come out? Deep down gays know they are wrong but they choose to ignore their conscience. I just think this motherfucking homo craze should FUCK OFF. KEEP YOUR LIFESTYLE TO YOURSELF!!!NO ONE WANT’S TO HEAR THAT SHIT!!!! AND DON’T TRY TO ADOPT KIDS AND BRING YOUR WARPED VISION OF LIFE ON TO KIDS WHO WON’T KNOW ANY DIFFERENT BECAUSE THEY ARE KIDS FOR FUCK’S SAKE!!!!!!!AND A MOTHERFUCKING FUCK YOU GOES OUT TO UGLY ASS ELLEN DEGENERES AND FAT ASS HEART ATTACK FUCK WAITING TO HAPPEN ROSIE O’DONNELL.

#159, your comments, while your opinion, are ignorant and close-minded. Our country was founded on principles that “all men are created equal”. The cast member did not deserve to be called a faggot, whether he is homosexual or not. Faggot is a derogatory term, to the same effect as nigger. And when you say that homosexuals should welcome the term homo because it is an abbreviation for homosexual, picture white people calling you Bro or Fro because you refer to yourself as a Brother or Afro-American. Give people the dignity that they are entitled to. Isaiah Washington was wrong for expressing his homophobic opinions and shouting derogatory slurs. If a white man is hounded for the use of the word nigger, why shouldn’t a straight man be hounded for the use of the word faggot?
And to #161, you say that “faggot is a harsh word at the awards since sso many are”. Do you realize that you just called homosexuals faggots? Let me teach you something that your parents may have reluctantly not. Homosexual individuals are entitled to the same rights and freedoms as any other member of this society. If you do not believe me, read the Bill of Rights. I am a gay male, yet I am not a faggot. I am a black male, yet I am not a nigger. You must learn to remove the associations that you have made in your mind between these stereotypes and groups of individuals. You must reach beyond popular culture and what is seen in the media. You must think for yourselves.

Mr. Washington is DEAD wrong. Who is his publicist? They need to be fired right along with him. It would be like Michael Richards during his apology saying the word “NIGGER” at the end of it. I truly believe he was out of line. Like most of you, I always want to supporty my black family, but he’s out there on his own. He caused embarrassment and pain to someone else, and that is never excuseable. When celebrity and success is given, you should treat is as an honor, not bring disgrace to those who support you. This is what’s confusing me: when all of this FIRST happened, Isaiah Washington admitted through a statement that it happened. He called it an “unfortunate choice of wording” if I remember correctly. NOW’s he’s saying that he didn’t say it.
We don’t need to have been there. Isaiah’s own actions in the press, coupled with the fact that his own castmates are so willfully and vocally against him, don’t make him seem credible in the least.

I still can’t understand why people are angry that the man said “faggot” to describe what he claims he did not say. I have no problem with such words being used in that context…YES, including the word nigger. I actually think it’s important for us to use the actual word in that kind of situation so that we don’t pretend they are other than what they are. All this PC mess takes away from properly addressing the underlying issue. It’s not the words themselves, it’s the meaning attached. Faggot is what it is. Nigger is what it is. There is power in words and we cannot hide from that.

Apology aimed at healing ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
POSTED: 8:36 p.m. EST, January 18, 2007
Actor Isaiah Washington apologizes for using anti-gay slur
LOS ANGELES, California (AP) — The heated controversy at ABC’s top show, “Grey’s Anatomy,” boiled over Thursday as the network rebuked co-star Isaiah Washington for an anti-gay comment and Washington issued a lengthy apology.
“We are greatly dismayed that Mr. Washington chose to use such inappropriate language at the Golden Globes, language that he himself deemed `unfortunate’ in his previous public apology,” the network said in a statement.
“His actions are unacceptable and are being addressed,” the statement concluded.
During a backstage interview Monday at the Globes gala, Washington denied involvement in a heated on-set incident in October during which an anti-gay remark was reportedly uttered.
“No, I did not call (co-star) T.R. (Knight) a faggot,” Washington told reporters. “Never happened, never happened.”
In his apology Thursday, Washington acknowledged “repeating the word Monday night.”
“I apologize to T.R., my colleagues, the fans of the show and especially the lesbian and gay community for using a word that is unacceptable in any context or circumstance. I marred what should have been a perfect night for everyone who works on `Grey’s Anatomy.’ I can neither defend nor explain my behavior. I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I’ve asked for help.”
ABC said in its statement it has “a longstanding policy to maintain respectful workplaces” for its employees, adding that the network had “dealt with the original situation in October, and thought the issue resolved.”
Thursday’s events followed a critical statement Wednesday from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Neil Giuliano, GLAAD president, said he had contacted Washington’s representatives in hopes of meeting the actor to discuss “the destructive impact of these kinds of anti-gay slurs.”
“Washington’s repeated use of it on-set and in the media is simply inexcusable,” Giuliano said in the statement.
Washington said on Thursday that he welcomes the chance to meet with gay and lesbian community leaders “to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I’ve opened.”
“I know a mere apology will not end this, and I intend to let my future actions prove my sincerity,” Washington said.
Knight, who said soon after the October fracas that he is gay, appeared on Tuesday’s taping of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to discuss the original incident and Washington’s recent comments.
“He referred to me as a faggot,” Knight said of the October incident. “Everyone heard it.”
“Grey’s Anatomy,” now in its third season, won the Golden Globe for best television drama. It regularly finishes at or near the top of the Nielsen rankings.

Dear Readers:
Please understand that I am a black female with enough education and common sense to live in a CIVILIZED society! Not because I speak proper English, use correct grammar and try my best to be TOLERANT of ALL people, it doesn’t make me white or anything else.. I am a human being where racial prejudice has been used against me, and perhaps I know just how isolated and hurt TR Knight feels to be singled out by a verbal BULLY!!
Let’s get this straight, The NAACP has nothing to do with this. This issue is about Isaiah Washington, the Actor/Public Figure has nothing to do with being black but based on the hateful and ignorant comments he made about his cast-mate.
GLAAD is demanding an apology just as the NAACP/Jesse Jasckson/Al Sharpton demanded that KKKRAMER give a donation and apologize.
The problem with Isaiah is that he made the mistake once. But to bring back the issue on a night that was so IMPORTANT for Shonda Rhimes was just disgusting and EMBARASSING!!
People just don’t get it!! I am not condoning gay lifestyle, but people have a right to live their own lives. That is why we live in the U.S. of A.! It is not of Isaiah’s business who TR Knight is dating!
Pedophilia is not a gay problem, believe it or not 95% of pedophiles are not GAY!! Pedophiles use their perversion to CONTROL children. Pedophiliac derives sexual excitement through the physical contact with children. Male or female..
I excused Isaiah’s behavior when the situation first happened. He said it was a misunderstanding, and I took it as that.
But To use MLK’s day to be an IGNORAMUS, I am not so forgiving. Not to mention, Isaiah choked another cast-mate.. That is downright unacceptable.
Why can’t you all be fair, especially when you would want the same treatment from their peers?

You know, Hollywood hasn’t made it easy for African-Americans to really be able to showcase our skills. Most of the time we are being typcast as whores, pimps, and dirty cops and winning awards for it.
Mr. Washington should know better, and yet, he still has not learned his lesson. With a history of outbursts on different sets he has worked on. They will let him go, for sure. And it will be hard for him to get another part again for sure.

See here’s the thing that you so obviously don’t understand, TR CANNOT be fired for what he does in his personal life. He’s not coming to work and sucking dick on the set. Why is it so hard for you to get past your hatred of gays and see the real issue? A lot of people seem to think Isaiah’s behaviour is ok cause they disapprove of being gay, but your opinion doesn’t trump work politics. If that is how you honestly think….you really must not have a job, because your ass would be fired ASAP. Miss Nee (#190) is 100% right–bottom line is, any employer today is going to break their neck to maintain a hostile free work environment–you have to to avoid costly lawsuits and settlements–you should because it is the decent thing to do. I work in Human Resources and trust me, any company today would be escorting Mr. Washington to the front door, with a packed box in hand. And Shonda will soon be doing the same for Isaiah too. And she should–this fool is not worth jeopardizing the continued success of the show. He has put her in a very difficult position but when it comes down to it, she will write him off because it’s all about business and the ratings will suffer. It will be very easy to do because his character is already suffering from an injury. The sad thing to me is that he hurt, I mean really hurt another person and he didn’t even care. He extended an apology that he obviously didn’t mean, only to injure this same man once again. And sadly, the only reason he is now apologizing (AGAIN)is because someone’s told him that he’s really screwed up this time and could lose his job. And rightly, he should.

WOW-WOW-WOW. In response to #102, I didn’t realzie the CL blog was a place where people were allowed to blog hatred. Not too worry though, I’ll head over to Perez for my gossip now. Truly unfortunate, I actually like this blog, but not if people like #102 are allowed to spout sh*t like that.
