Queen Latifah believes every woman is a “queen” and on Monday, January 29th, she is holding an open-casting call in NYC to find a new face to appear in an ad for the CoverGirl Queen Collection.
All women of color — from Latina to African American — ages 18-48 are invited to strut their stuff in front of a panel of judges, including Queen Latifah herself. Contestants will be asked to share their story as to how they have achieved both inner and outer beauty –whether it was through a recent accomplishment, community service, overcoming an obstacle or standing up for something they were passionate about.

Queen seems like a really nice person. I remember in an interview she said that ppl assume she is bold and mean b/c of her size. She said that she is actually kind and nice. It shows.

im definately going! this is a great opportunity for me and others interested in getting into the entertainment industry. Queen is definatly a queen and has accomplished so much throughout her life, especially coming from where she did. This really seems credible and a bit more reliable that ANTM. Its definatly not a publicity stunt or some show to make a rich and famous person MORE rich and famous. I cant wait.

Queen represents a divison of Covergirl that makes products for women of color. And by the way we are no longer called “Colored” for those of you who still own a plantation. Anyway, this is why only woman of color are asked to come out. We have different types of skin and hair then whites or even Asians therefore we have different cosmetic needs. Why would a whit woman be used to sell cosmetics that are specific to African American and Latino skin. Before you speak on things think first. OMG. That line was CRAZY!! I got there like 15-20 minutes before 10. The line was all the way around the corner by the Hard Rock. It was freeeezzzinngg cold.. I couldn’t even think. I was finally reaching BB KINGS, like maybe 10 ft away. Tell me why they said they were not seeing anymore people!!!??? lmao..and on top of that it was only 2:15 pm…I thought that the casting call ended at 4:00??…That is such a shame..=0)…If they wanted to only see 240 people then they should have posted “We will only see the first 240 people” but not only that how long does it take to discribe your inner and outer thought? As soon as a female opens her mouth you should get there vibe…lol…wow…… Then one of the “helpers” was like getting mad that no one was leaving…lol,,This was soo funny…and on top of that they didn’t even apologize for making everyone freeze for about 5 hrs. I mean if it was 15 degrees outside that’s a lot…..The only good thing about this whole crazy situation was that people got to meet new people, besides that this was a day from hell,,only because it was cold, because waiting wasn’t all that bad…lol…Even when I left people was like “I’m not going no where”…lol..I was like “I am” If it’s not meant to be then it’s not meant to be!!! Hello I was one of the woman out there for the casting and it was so upsetting! We stood out there for 8 hours and did not get seen! we were the first people there and could not get in. People from modeling and acting agency already had blue tickets and were able to walk up and audition without waiting in line. This was suppose to be a open call and no one knew we were suppose to have blue tickets! Then the casting was suppose to happen at 11:00 it did not start on time and then Queen Latifah left at 1:00pm. After we stood out there in the cold for hours they tell us they are not seeing anyone else. Then they had white security guards who randomly selecting girls that they liked and letting them in before people who stood out there in the cold for hours. The police came out there with barricades pushing us off the side walk and being very disrespectful to us. If we were white woman we would not have been treated like this! There are a lot of angry black woman and we are all going to boycott Cover Girl! This was suppose to be something positive for Black Woman and totally very negative. Cover Girl did not even come out and apologize. They did not care, all they care about is us black woman spending our black woman money on there products! I told the people who were doing the casting, who by the way were all WHITE, that what they did was wrong and they got an attitude said there was nothing they could do about it! Pass The Word don’t buy anything Cover Girl Period!

I arrived at 11 am stood on line in the freezing cold, only to be told that blue tickets were handed out and only 250 people would be seen. The line stopped moving at 1 o’clock and the infamous blue ticket announcement was made at 2 o clock. I waited until 3 o’clock because I refused to leave, after standing in the numbing cold…with fingers, toes, and thighs numb, and trembling , you mean to tell me only 250 people would be seen. The line wrapped around the block.
Lets say one arrived at 830 preempting a long line, by the time the line started at 10 am those 250 tickets would have ran out. You mean to tell me that someone couldn’t have made an announcement to communicate this information. Why would a large organization such as CoverGirl disappoint so many hopeful women. Allow them to stand in such frigid weather for absolutely no reason. Is it because of the nature of the contest and the contestants involved. I would hate to believe that, I don’t want to believe that.

NEVER AGAIN WITH COVERGIRL!!! Man that entire thing was a debacle! They started announcing it on the radio stations and newspapers that morning — which leads me to ask why even give away blue tickets if you were going to invite thousands of girls to audition???
We stood out in the mind numbing freezing cold for 6 hours and weren’t even given the courtesy of an audition or a simple thank you. Instead we were “escorted” out of line by the police as if we were common criminals.

this was a terrible idea because you didn’t say you only had 250 tickets for 2500 girls that was the limit because there was over 1,00 girls, ladies, woman or whatever out there and not even Queen Latifah came outside to say when it was ove.. There was almost a riot. I WAS THERE and as I was very close to the door to get in there was the annoucement about no more people were to go in. The police cars and vans started to come around to escort us out of 42nd street very funny This does not look good for Queen Latifan or Covergirl I hope they can cover this up NEVER AGAIN
I really think that this contest was a hoax. Pure publicity. Cameras were filming people that were standing in line early in the morning, and then at noon. That was it. I got there at 9:30am, and stood in line until almost 3:00pm. I did not see any blue tickets that were given out, that’s why I didn’t move from the line. At 1:30pm, a security guy from BBKings came out, who did not mention anything about any “blue tickets”, and told us that we should stay in line because at 2:00pm, they were going to tell him where to cut the line. No such thing happened. Instead, they called the cops, and after they saw that people were still not moving, they told everybody to visit QueenLatifah.com for more information. The website is not even running, and there is no message addresssing what happened yesterday. This whole thing was absolutely ridiculous, and not to mention inhumane. There was such a lack of respect on the part of the CoverGirl representatives and Queen Latifah, not only because people wasted their time standing there, but because it was freezing cold yesterday. I had to stay home today because I’m feeling sick from standing there for more than 5 hours. I really can’t believe Queen Latifah would allow people to use her name for something like this. A lot of the people stood in line because they wanted an opportunity, but they were also there to support her. I am so disappointed. I think all Hispanic and African American women standing in that line got CoverGirl and Queen Latifah’s message loud and clear: “You ain’t worth our time”.
I let a message for someone that was in charge of this casting and she actually called me back and apologized. That fact is BB King gave out those tickets and the casting people had nothing to do with that. The people who got those tickets got there late the night before or early in the morning around 5:30AM. As angry as I was, I was not there earlier than them. 267 tickets were given out and 300 people were seen. I told her how could they have not anticipated this many people because they advertized everywhere. She insisted that they did not expect all those people. The line was supposed to be cut off at a certain point but it was just disorganized. They may have another casting at some point in the future so we’ll see. As for me, the fact that she called me back really impressed me and I’m satisfied that they’ll do it better next time. I’m a model (not famous but working) and I know if you want to be seen at a casting you must be there early.
I see they are playing the blame game (covergirl) – as far as I am concerned they are completely and entirely responsible for what happened that day, not BB Kings.
Are there any positive updates? The Queen is so talented and professional. I Hope, no I’m sure there’s an explanation for the mix up! If the line is going to empower us in the media/advertising arena and show diversed Women Of Color that share common goals of positive progress-then I can’t wait!!:)

It’s unfortunate that I won’t be able to make it out there. I’ve always wanted to be a face model since I’m “too short” to be a runway model…hopefully there will be other opportunities in the Chicagoland area;)
