Toni Braxton is being released from Blackground/Universal Motown, Billboard.com has learned. The Grammy Award-winning R&B singer logged the majority of her hits during her tenure with LaFace/Arista before joining Blackground. Her sole release with that label, 2005′s “Libra,” has shifted 431,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Braxton remains the resident headliner at the Flamingo hotel in Las Vegas, a gig she began last August.
In addition, the artist is suing her former personal manager, claiming she owes him $10 million for convincing her to leave Arista and join Blackground, according to the Associated Press.
The suit says Braxton hired Barry Hankerson as her manager in late 1997; a year later, she negotiated a five-album deal with Arista that netted her more than $20 million in advances.
However, the relationship soured in 2002, when Hankerson began fabricating creative disputes with the label, according to the suit. By 2003, Braxton says she was convinced to leave Arista and sign with Blackground. When that arrangement proved unstable, Braxton claims she tried to fire Hankerson as her manager but that he promptly turned against her. SOURCE

That was the most confusing article! What the hell..who is suing who? The headline says Toni is suing the manager but the body of the text says the manager is suing her.
I dunno…but I prefer facts over fiction. This isn’t Perez Hilton or a printed version of Wendy Williams.
Poor Toni. The hip-hop shit doesn’t work for you ma. The sexy stuff doesn’t work neither. You need to go back to the comtemporary R&B, you touched on it with the Libra album so hopefully you will continue on that path. I hope she can hook up with Babyface again too. I don’t think she is cut out for the business with all of the bad choices she has made over the years. The best thing she can do is make one more album with a Top 20 Single or two, so she can end her career with some dignity.

Well first off Toni is not broke and isn’t sueing because she needs money. If someone owes you money, especially $10 million, you gonna take they ass to court, I don’t care if you’re Mariah Carey, Goerge Bush or Bill Gates. Toni is a very smart business woman, that’s why she refuses to let anyone take advatage of her again. She has learned from her mistakes and has balls enough to fight for what is hers. So instead of dissing yet another black woman, how about we lift her up and support her.

Finally Take this ring is nice too but it’s a little amerieish. And so is What’s Good even though it has the dear mama beat from 2pac but it still sounds fresh

Toni was not DROPPED from blackground…she FAUGHT to be RELEASED from the label….two entirely different situations…she will be with J Records before you know it…now that is a REAL scoop.

I think the reason why her sales are so low is beacuse the album was originally only released in Germany. I think it wasn’t promoted all over the world because of that. If it was a global release from the get go, teh number of units sold would be much higher. There are tens and tens of hundreds of Toni fans here in South Africa and the album was only released here mid-2006, and because one of the DJ’s on a national radio station persuaded Gallo Records to distribute the album here. Libra is great, from start to finish.
And actually, Babyface wrote the song I Wanna Be (Your Yaby) and worked on some of other songs on the album. I hope they get back and work together because clearly there was no love lost between them when she left LaFace.

This is getting ridiculous. There aren’t many vocalists who can hold a candle to Braxton; yet, for some reason, Braxton isn’t quite making the mark. What’s that about? And, honestly, all this up and down business is getting a little tired – she needs an intervention. Somebody older with more experience in the field, more discipline and know-how needs to step in and save this songbird. Any takers?
