Yes, people think only three, it was only three celebritys but many black models.. Example Beverly Johnson was the first black model to grace the cover. Tyra Banks was the first one in (1997) so it took almost ten years for another woman of color to grace the cover. Let me start by saying that I am not a Beyonce fan and never was.

I’m gonna give the girl her due props, because it doesn’t matter if I don’t like her music much and think she’s overrated, or disagree with a lot of the things she does, Beyonce is making history.

She may be the “only 2nd” black woman but she IS on it before a lot of white models and sports women and before ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM WHITE SINGER. They could have picked Britney Spears at her peak, or Christina Aguilera, even Shakirah, but they chose Beyonce as the very first singer, and second black female, to grace the cover. It took them 10 YEARS to put another black face on this magazine so this is an accomplishment in itself.

People wanna prove whether Tyra Banks is prettier than Beyonce or not. You know what, I think the media and people need to stop putting women against each other comparing them particularly when they are obviously equally beautiful. Had it been something totally uncomparable like Star Jones vs. Gabrielle Union, I could comprehend, but both Tyra and Beyonce are beauties, and I embrace and applaud BOTH of MY SISTERS for making history.
