She may be the “only 2nd” black woman but she IS on it before a lot of white models and sports women and before ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM WHITE SINGER. They could have picked Britney Spears at her peak, or Christina Aguilera, even Shakirah, but they chose Beyonce as the very first singer, and second black female, to grace the cover. It took them 10 YEARS to put another black face on this magazine so this is an accomplishment in itself.

People wanna prove whether Tyra Banks is prettier than Beyonce or not. You know what, I think the media and people need to stop putting women against each other comparing them particularly when they are obviously equally beautiful. Had it been something totally uncomparable like Star Jones vs. Gabrielle Union, I could comprehend, but both Tyra and Beyonce are beauties, and I embrace and applaud BOTH of MY SISTERS for making history.

Let me start by saying that I am not a Beyonce fan and never was.

I’m gonna give the girl her due props, because it doesn’t matter if I don’t like her music much and think she’s overrated, or disagree with a lot of the things she does, Beyonce is making history.

She may be the “only 2nd” black woman but she IS on it before a lot of white models and sports women and before ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM WHITE SINGER. They could have picked Britney Spears at her peak, or Christina Aguilera, even Shakirah, but they chose Beyonce as the very first singer, and second black female, to grace the cover. It took them 10 YEARS to put another black face on this magazine so this is an accomplishment in itself.

People wanna prove whether Tyra Banks is prettier than Beyonce or not. You know what, I think the media and people need to stop putting women against each other comparing them particularly when they are obviously equally beautiful. Had it been something totally uncomparable like Star Jones vs. Gabrielle Union, I could comprehend, but both Tyra and Beyonce are beauties, and I embrace and applaud BOTH of MY SISTERS for making history.

Beyonce has her blessings, Tyra has hers, JHud covering Vogue or winning the Golden Globe has hers. Congratulations on everyone. All of those women are successful and living the great life, so I guess they must be doing something right.

And by the way, Beyonce looks too cute and classy on this cover at the beach, happy, serene and relaxed. She did her thing!

The only people that get offered to cover Sports Illustrated are the people the industry feel has no real depth or substance. In fact, its considered one moral step-up from Playboy. No one worth their salt in the industry would cover this “mens only” magazine (where men go into the bathroom to masturbate using this magazine) unless you’re a model and that’s your living. So i’m not surprised beyonce is on the cover; actually typical, no real substance. I guess she might consider this an accomplishment, but sorry, it’s no where as prestigious as covering VOGUE.

About time she looked tasteful on a cover because usually, in her videos or in some photos she always has her ass hanging out. For example Check On It video…anyway even though I can’t stand this trick, I have to admit that she looks pretty on the cover. Her skin looks clear and smooth. I’m sick of us getting all excited about these magazines featuring one of us on their covers. F**k Vogue and F**k S.I.! I’m happy for both JHud and Bee for their PERSONAL accomplishments, but this say’s nothing for BLACK HISTORY - next month these magazines will be back to business as usual.

Although there are so many talented and accomplished black stars few will never grace these magazine cover regardless of how wonderful they are. In stead of “waiting at the feet” of these publications, we need to start holding publications that feature US on a regular’s basis in much higher regard. Don’t get me wrong, I read “mainstream” fashion magazines just like every other woman, but I think it’s ridiculous that in 2007 both of these talented and beautiful women are making history by being on their covers. If there were any justice in Hollywood, this would be common place.

You wanna know why so few black entertainers’ actresses ever become mainstream? It’s because they have rarely have the opportunity to promote themselves through mainstream media. No matter how talented, accomplished, beautiful and deserving they are they will always be obscure unless we begin redefining “making it” means!

I am a big fan of Beyonce I think she is one of the best R&B/Pop singers out and I also think that she is the Queen in her genre now in my point of view Mary J. Blige is the Queen of Hip Hop Soul….Mariah Carey is the Queen of R&B….Alicia Keys is the Queen of R&B/Jazz/Soul and Beyonce is the Queen of Urban Pop and I believe those four are the four best female singers I ve seen in my generation I wasn’t even born when Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson were doing it big so I don’t really count them but I know that they were very good in there days and I’m sorry but you can not look at those four women and say that they are not at the top of their game and if I were to rank them from greatest to least it would probably go Mariah Carey, then Mary, then Alicia Keys and then Beyonce no one else comes after them or can take their place I just wanted to write that so everyone would know that I am not saying Beyonce is the best singer of all time I am just saying she is definitely on her way and is in an elite group of female singers of our generation
Now on to specifically Beyonce….Ever since her days back in DC she was a star and took a lot of flack for things that went down in the group but when your a celebrity people are going to speculate and I think the situation made Bee stronger Once she broke out into her solo act Bee changed what we like to call “the game” forever She came out with the 6 inch heals flashy outfits more big extra blonde weave beautiful body and of course she was always looked beautiful no one in the game had ever done what she did she basically became the Tina Turner of our generation no other female R&B act had big blonde hair, or always wore flashy clothes, or even danced with back up dancers like in the Tina Turner days she set new a new level for females in the game because remember right before she came out Ashanti who had a totally different style than Bee had been killing it for a while with Murder Inc. she was like the R&B it girl until Murder Inc. kind of fell off and that is the truth because before Bee came out none of those R&B chicks had blonde hair, or wore flashy outfits and had to all of the sudden learn dance moves with back up dancers and everything and you already know that ever since Bee came out in 02/03 she plopped right up there with A.Keys, Mary and Mariah because I had never heard anybody with a sound like Beyonce her music was you know still R&B mixed with a little pop, soul, dance, and even alternative and I never really saw those R&B chicks be so white friendly either like how Beyonce is because she is an International superstar every kind of ethnicity likes her she doesnt speak to just one audience and ever since then people cant stop talking about her whether its her relationship with Jay, music career, family she is a Superstar
Now what I want to get into is how extremely Bee was big this year first off when people heard about Bee coming out with a sophmore album so quick the everyone was talking about the return of Bee thinking what is she going to come out with? who is going to be featured on the album? what is the first single? will she suffer the sophomore jinx? so all of these questions was running through the industry’s minds then when Bee started getting into detail about the album and the first single people were dying to find out and when De Ja Vu was on the radio and leaked to the internet it had to be the most biggest response to a sophomore return ever everyone was talking about it whether you liked the song or not it was very universal then Bee puts out a video and everyone is wondering what that is gonna be like and people or maybe I should say haters were actually so distraught with the video they made a petition to have a re-shooting of the video now I am sorry but that had to be the first time in history that has ever happened but it didn’t phase Bee not one bit then the BET Awards, MTV Awards etc. came around Bee killed it in her performances and released her second single Ring the Alarm which I personally did not like but you’re not going to like every single song your favorite artists puts out so it was understandable people also tried to put Bee against Rihanna during that time also then after that B’Day dropped and in its first week sold 540,000 copies which was about 300,000 copies more than what DIL sold in its first week but really that was a suprise because so many people ha downloaded all the songs from B’Day off Lime Wire and didn’t get the album so that just proves Bee’s fan base is crazy so after B’Day release Bee did a couple more performances at award shows and the next really big thing for her coming was none other than DREAMGIRLS
Now I have seen Dreamgirls and I think that it was a very good movie and the WHOLE cast was excellent and if there was a way I really wish they could all get awards for their performances because all of them were excellent but of course J.Hud and E.Murph shined a little more because there roles were kind of the whole movie I mean people thought that the movie was totally going to be about Bee life story and she was going to be the main character but for anybody who knows the Dreamgirls Story knows that the story is of course about the Trio’s Rise and Fall but it is sort centered around the character of Effie so I really didn’t expect Bee to win an Oscar for her role because honestly she wasn’t even in the movie as much as J.Hud was but I did kind of expect her to at least win for her song Listen but even if she doesn’t that is okay she has her whole career ahead of her to win and at least she can say that she was in a movie that has been named a CLASSIC in movie-musical history so she still is praised for that and as far as the whole J.Hud vs. Bee beef that is just people speculating and wanting something to talk about because its just like when Letoya came out and people were trying to say that Bee had a beef with her to which was bull but bottom line people always try to pin Bee against somebody so that is not a big deal and honestly there is no such thing as “bad publicity” so all those rumors were neither hurting Bee’s career or boosting it But overall I don’t think Bee would be jealous of J.Huds success right now because Bee has had five times more success than J.Hud because don’t get me wrong I am so happy for J.Hud but she has had a year of success so far Bee has had like about 10 so lets be real

I agree and disagree. No celeb looks as better before their professionally-applied make-up and professionally-styled hair. That’s just common sense. But I must admit that Beyonce still looks pretty darn good even in candid photos. I think you’re confusing beauty with glamour.

Did you ever think this is Black History Month and how proud it is to have to beautiful successful and talented black women gracing the cover of two of the top selling magazines?

Can the Beyonce haters and JHUD haters find some peace and be proud of the two being on a cover that rarely place a black woman on the covers.

Dreamgirls is a hit and for the first time, we have two people who are on at the same time.

Why can’t we be proud of both without all the hate…this is what Martin Luther King fought so hard for and later died..peace…how often are black women always being portrayed in a negative spotlight. I am so very proud of them both. They are both beautiful, successful, and are doing things in a positive light. Showing the world we black women have arrived and here to stay. I hope there are more black women gracing these covers in the future. Not just a couple black faces every five or ten years.

It’s not every day you see more than one black woman gracing the cover of a magazine unless its’ Giant, Essence, Ebony…magazines usually read by the majority of black people. While both Vogue and SI are read by all races.

I googled “Beyonce on SI” and came across a website that appeared to have predominantly white members. It was very obvious that these folks were disgusted about Beyonce being on the cover of SI. One poster even stated that SI has gone ghetto and that the issue was printed in ebonics. Her physical appearance and career were viciously attacked. I only read a few posts because that was not the site I inteded to go into but what I did read really pissed me off. Then I come on here and read comments by black people putting Beyonce down (not to the same degree as the other site). Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I wonder if any of the people on this site that have spoken poorly of Beyonce would have defended her on this other website. I’m betting on…YES!
