For the second edition of Hot or Not we have Akon’s new group, Brick and Lace. Nyanda and Nailah Thorbourne (who happen to be sisters) rep Jamaica and dub their music “sexy r&b meets dancehall.”
MORE ON THE GROUP
Born to a Jamaican father and an American mother and raised predominantly in Kingston, Jamaica –on an opulent musical diet of reggae, R&B, hip hop, pop and country– 26-year-old Nyanda and 24-year-old Nailah Thorbourne couldn’t help but be trans-eclectic. “We are a hybrid,” affirms Nailah in her effortlessly sexy West-Indian lilt. “It’s not fabricated at all; it’s who we are.”
WHY BRICK & LACE?
To the ladies of Brick & Lace, their name represents the duality and complexity of the everywoman. “Sometimes you want to wear a cap and sneakers and look grimy,” Nyanda tells. “And sometimes you want to wear your sexy dress and heels and look cute.” Nailah puts it all in perspective: “People always ask: ‘Who is Brick & Lace?’ And we always tell them it depends on the day!”

they are cute!
I like it! I just hope they dont turn into another nina sky.
Hot…its catchy, I can hear it playin in the clubs
i like it and they re pretty
not really feeling the song, but they are cute ladies, do ya thang… I aint mad at em!!!
the songs cute
No.
hmmmm pretty is that all they can offer though?
Don’t like the song, but their cuties so I hope they bring the heat on another track… I appreciate girls reppin the green yellow n gold…
Sorry black not yellow.
The song is ok. Nothing new but that doesn’t mean they won’t have something better to offer when their album drops. I’ll keep an out on them!
*yawn* they’re cute but I hope they come with something hotter than that track…
dont like the song. its not original.. maybe next time
The beat isn’t bad, and their voices are adequate, but I have to agree with number 13. They just aren’t original, they aren’t bringing anything new to the table.
I don’t know, maybe at 20 years old(lol–like that’s old), my taste in music has changed…but R&B has been in such a funk for the past few years. Everything sounds the same-all these tired in one ear and out the other fads and elementary lyrics.
People, go to school! Read some books! Learn about the world and cultures around you! Learn how to play with and flip words! Grow a backbone and stand for something. I’m tired of these songs and lyrics that sound like they came out of a thirteen year old girl’s diary.
Because even for club bangers this shit is tired.
HOW ABOUT NO,,,,,,TAKE OUT THE WEAVE AND GO SIT DOWN. SICK OF EVERYONE FRONTIN LIKE THEY CAN SING AND GOT HAIR!!
It is a typical song, not a banger. Their looks might get them half way, but they gon need alot more to make it in this game…..NEXT
Ah Jesus Christ, they got signed? Brick and Lace has been pushing their mess out here forever. Jamaicans don’t play that shit though. It’s another formula thing. Brown skin girls with weaves who have a slip of singing talent.
Everyone wants to be famous.
There are better singers than them out here, trust me.
It’s okay. Nothing spectacular. Come out with something else, and we’ll see.
yall bitches stop hatin, they been puttin work in for a minute now, a couple months ago i saw them perform at a club and they tore the house down, dey can sang.
blah.
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH FINALLY THESE ARE MY GIRLS THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR YEARRSSSS SO ITS ABOUT TIME THEY CROSSED OVER IM JUST MAD IT SAID AKON’S GROUP LIKE HE DISCOVERED THEM, THEY BEEN SINGING LOOOONG B4 HE CAME AROUND…
ANYONE WHO KNOWS DANCEHALL THEY WERE ON SCOOBAAY & THRILLER RIDDIM AS WELL…
NiNa Sky: The Sequel
It all sounds the same to me and im being honest no hatters of here I know I cant do what they do but damn we need some type of entertainment. That song was very Lame and its the same old $hit!
This is a coo song. Got a good beat, good vibe… Just so ya’ll know it’s not about originality anymore. It might sound good, and make you sound “musically cultured” to say that the music lacks creativity and originality, but to be honest, what else is there to do in music now? 20 years ago there were so many possibilities, but now, it’s mainly just about if you can make a hot song.
Besides, the people who do show “orginality” never get that publicity they deserve, cuz it’s just too different. All ya’ll saying it’s not orginal, ya’ll prolly only have well known artists in your music collection… We don’t venture out to appreciate different music. Therefore, the “original” stuff never sees the light of day. If it does, we critiize it cuz “we don’t get it” or “I’m not feeling it” or “What the hell is that”!
There are alot of talented and orginal artists…just look on myspace…
yeh more ppl reppin ma beautiful conutry
Puhhhhhhhhhhhhh lezzzzzzzzzzzz, cute girls(just like riri, ashanti, and assie) they can’t sing. They might as well let me get a record deal too! The way people were talking, I was expecting something real bomb, and all I got was a dud.
they also got a new joint called “get that clear” with akon producin the track. its hott…check it out.
alyssa aka
AzNtRiNiRiCaN718
Its alright and thats it…
I likes…..
@ #17 don’t forget the honey blond highlights.
I can see myself throwing it on a dude to this in the club.
Song is boaring, but they look really cute…
production is on point(beat is fiyah). lyrics..ok vocal arrangment..needs slight improvement. it could be a hot track..just need alittle fixin up here and there.
please NO BLONDE HAIR FOR THE GIRLS..PLZ!!!
and please don’t dress them like ultra video hoes..got enough of that!!!
NOTTTTTTTTTTTTT But they are def. pretty girls.
what u mean u dont hope they turn into another nina sky. nina sky is the shit….
Wiggity wack!! #1 they’re average looking females with nothing spectacular about them. #2 The song sounds like five different songs that are already on the radio and #3 wtf is up with signing NON-talented “singers”?? Where are the jennifer hudsons, fantasias and beyonces (ppl tha can really SANG!!)???????
They remind me of the modern dy “Changing Faces” only cuter..
Oh yeah, the one on the left remind me of Beyonce..
the are prety they look liek russel simmons daughter but they remind me of nina sky
Pretty girls, but the track is garbage.
dey cute and dey song is aiight,
Theyre Pretty but they look like they just came out of the 90′s. . .These arnt aaliyah days anymore
D
I was thinking the same sxact thing # 22.
sorry exact
Wow Akon cannot produce.
They are too boring for my taste
Why are so many songs so redundant with the lyrics? They have talent so I wish them all the best
I likes
the song is ok. they look cute. if they come out with a hot video they are good. I mean if ciara can get away with “promise” then why can’t they get away with this. They aleast sound better.
i don’t mind them but i’d like to hear more. i don’t automatically want to turn the music down so that’s a good sign
I heard this song the other day and I listened to it again and it still makes no sense. How can you start off sayin “You ain’t NEVER, NEVER, NEVER gone get it” and then say “You just MIGHT get it”? Is it never or maybe? Make up your mind. LOL. But seriously, the song is boring and filled with too many cliches like “switchin lanes” and “smokin dro.” THAT’s why people say it has no originality. They won’t get far if they don’t step it up.
Lame.
It sounds like it was made on a sound machine in someones basement. Why does most everything sound the same these days?
not
Not! They are cute ladies- as everyone has pointed out- (funny how looking good can make or break a career without having the requisite vocals huh?) The song is catchy but it’s not hot. I need to hear more, maybe a R&B song with substance that shows off their vocals before I can co-sign on “Nina-Sky” of the islands. Nuff Said.
LMAO@Brandon Charles
Ugh NEEEEEEEEEEEXT!!!!!!!!! We have already heard this stupid shit in way to many forms. Someone get me some bricks so i can throw it both of them. Yuck
the beat is catchy, its somethin i can find myself listening to while in the car but i didnt even care enough to listen to the lyrics because it sounds like another ciara or christina milian joint.nothin new
No, nothin special. Whinn’,repeative, and blan. No type of vocals, the song is all in one key, I can sing this and i cant sing.
Where are Maxwell and Teedra Moses when you need them? First that Brandon Hines is supposed to save R&B now this. I hope 2007 will be a better year for music because it’s really sorry rightnow.
