An electrifying mix of warm vintage soul, ’70s-style R&B, Motown girl-group harmonies, and hip-hop grooves, the album is the one that Stone describes as “truly me. That’s why I’m calling it Introducing Joss Stone,” she says. “These are my words, and this is who I am as an artist.” The new single, titled “Tell Me What We Gonna Do” features Common and is a funky track that kind of reminds me of Nikka Costa’s debut album. I LOVE some Joss Stone! I’ve been feeling her style since Super Duper Love. This is definitely going to be my first album purchase of ’07.
She walks that fine line between black and white soul that I think Janis Joplin walked before her. Her vocals are actually very reminiscent of Joplin’s (though Joss definitely has a bit more range).
Tell Me Bout It has that old school, girl group, funk sound. That’s a good thing.
I’ve always been a fan. That white girl can blow. #8, is that Stoney Jackson? I’m over here rolling. His curl was tight back in the day.
Joss fits the stereotype of “WHITE PEOPLE CANT SING SOUL MUSIC” so well. Every groan, hum, trill, sigh, vocal, etc, sounds forced and fake. I do not like her, and i wish Amy Winehouse would drop on the same day, so Joss can be thrown out of the game.
