JENNIFER HUDSON COVERS GIANT MAGAZINE

ON HER SIZE
“Look, I used to be a size 22. Now, I’m a size 12. When I go to Hollywood stuff, I’m the biggest girl there. And I could care less. I still feel sexy and pretty whoever I’m standing next to because when I’m out in the real world, I’m the size of the average woman. And there is nothing wrong with us. There’s something wrong when you’re just skin and bones. It’s not cute. I love my size, period…. You gotta be comfortable in your own skin! I’m comfortable in mine. I don’t have a problem with it at all. I work with a trainer these days—to tone, not to lose. This jelly ain’t going nowhere.”
ON THE RUMORED FUED WITH BEYONCE
“I’m too busy trying to enjoy my blessings to be dwelling in mess. It’s not about that. It’s supposed to be about enjoying it. But then again, when something is good, people are always gonna try to find something wrong with it and try to throw a monkey wrench in there somewhere. We support each other as much as we did on day one. I mean, come on! That’s Beyoncé! We’d rather see people focus their attention on our work.”
ON FILMING DREAMGIRLS’ “AND I’M TELLING YOU”
“I think that was the most exposing scene, you know? And it was hard because I’m a newcomer, and everybody wants to come and watch the scene being done, so that was a little nerve-racking—like do they really need to have all of these people in the room? And I’m the only person on this stage, other than [co-star] Jamie [Foxx]. Just being able to match the emotion, when it was needed from the different angles, being able to hold on to it—it was a long process, and it was the last week. Everybody else was wrapped, and I was the very last to wrap. It took about three, four days to shoot. I had just shot “One Night Only” and “I Am Changing,” so all three of those, back to back to back… It was a blessing to have such a patient and kind director [Bill Condon] and for him to be able to know how to approach talent and get what he wants and needs from you.”
ON HER LOVE LIFE
“My boyfriend is my childhood sweetheart. We’ve been together since 1999! It’s crazy. I’m the dreamer and he supports my dreams – always has. He’s happy to be my rock and let me fly. I think it makes more sense to date someone outside of showbiz. He is stationary, stable, a home base. I’m on planes, here and there and always on the go. It’d be a whole different story if he was moving around, too. Instead I have a patient, understanding man who’s there for me when I get home. He’s home to me.”

@ 45 hdizzle, you’re right. People make stars to break them. It’s not just the media, it’s the public too. Every celebrity is victim of that. But some celebrities (not all of them) change for the worse and are responsible for the backlash.
————
@ 57 BKWY, Oprah said she didn’t believe it anyway. She said the media always tries to put women up against one another but never men. SO TRUE!
^^^ THIS IS GOSPEL!!

I wish JHud the best and she looks wonderful on the cover. I plan to buy her album and as long as she produces good music, she’ll have a returning fan.
It’s about time the soul in R&B comes back. Mary and Keyshia can’t do it by theirself. If anyone comments about that statment, please don’t. I don’t know if it’s me or what, but lately R&B has taken on a pop sound with the women. The only thing placing them in the R&B category is the color of their skin. Unless you’re going old school, then who is available today with that soulful sound?
If for some reason, her musical career doesn’t work out, she always has acting to fall back on.

Also Jennifer said this to Essences Mag:
http://www.people.com/peo...ticle/0,,20010541,00.html
Hudson also dismisses rumors that there was tension on the Dreamgirls set between herself and costar Beyoncé Knowles. “We clicked from day one,” she says.
She says she, Knowles and their fellow Dreamgirl Anika Noni Rose bonded over the fact that they’re all Virgos, and all have a mole in the same spot on the left side of their necks.
“It’s amazing to me that God took three different women from three different walks of life and created the Dreamgirls,” Hudson says. “We were meant to be together. When you look at us, you see it’s all connected. I’m loving Beyoncé.”
Photo by: Len Prince / Essence Magazine
Knowles has also dismissed feud rumors, telling reporters in December: “It’s really unfortunate that everyone is saying I’m jealous of Jennifer. … Because I’m a star they just automatically assume that I’m not humble enough to sit down and take a back seat, which I am.”
NO Beef just LOVE….

Say what you want about Keyshia but I still rock her album. Hers, Mary’s, and anyone from the 90s and backwards. She may not be the best singer, but she has major potential to grow. Only if she doesn’t mess it up herself.
The difference is that you feel what she’s saying and you can hear in her voice that she’s experienced that pain. Now does she need to improve vocally live? Yes. Can’t never deny that.
Which goes back to proving my point….if I used her as an example of soulful R&B and your response is WTF, then that tells you the state of R&B today. Keyshia has potential. As long as she builds it up, then she’ll be in the game for a minute.

Well,
This is not her year…she cant act (I finally saw the movie)…Eddie & Jamie were the ONLY good actors in the film.
There was no main character to me—the may as well have nominated both Jennifer and Beyonce for best supporting—-Eddie & Jamie MADE that movie.
Until the movie, I was an avid J-hud supporter and honestly felt that Beyonce would not appease me in the film….I was wrong. Beyonce was cheated! She deserved just as much of a nod as J-hud and she would have had just as good a shot of winning were it not for her being classified as a “leading actress”.
J-hud, I think, will become arrogant overtime b/c Hollywood makes you that way quicker than Hollyhood (the music Industry). And yes, ppl will get tired of her.
After the Oscars, she will be passe’ and ppl will just be commenting on her looks at random parties and celeb events….yes, she is BLESSED—maybe she is favored, but she does NOT have “IT”…she is just a pawn in the game—a game that is looking for a new, healthy, identifiable image for Black women…and she is racking up accolades along the way!
Her and that BF will prob end in the near future.
And, yes, she needs to stop looking so damn shocked when ppl talk to her….its beginning to seem rehearsed and fake.
And…she should (along with many others) keep her titties in her damn clothes…cleavage is okay…but sagging tatas look cheap and hookerish—HIRE A NEW STYLIST.
And if she thinks she’s in good w/ BEyonce’, her ass better take another look at Kelly and Michelle b/c as the saying goes:
“Keep your friends close and your enemies closer”…that way you can weigh your competition…and something tells me that that is the situation here.
That said…in this interview, she sounds a little arrogant and the word choice of hers in her statements sound completely DIFFERENT from the Jennifer they show at LIVE events.
Too much, too fast = INSTANT DEATH!

Right! I think this girl will do well, but half of the people that claim they like her so much are just jumping on the bandwagon and probably will not buy her CD! LOL. well J Holliday didnt have the Star Maker Clive Davis behind her either, she wasnt sexy and pretty like JHUD either, I think Clive will make her a star but i think she will be more accepted by white people because we as a race are so negative towards our own (remember Whitney early on in her career)?
this girl can sing, her talent and range is so that there is no room on stage for all that dancers and hoopla some of the others do… I think her career will be well thought out because that white man Clive has something to prove(he can create a star that was kicked off of American Idol) time will tell, but i’m almost certain that we as a people will turn on her way before the media does, we always do…..

And I feel pain in my ears everytime she sings. But Keyshia won’t make it in the industry unless she changes her attitude. Her attitude AND her voice stinks! Not a good combination.
I have to agree with you on Mary. Now that’s my girl right there. She does the damn thing! What do you think about Fantasia’s soulful voice? J Hudd is definitely going to do good. I am rooting for her all the way. She is a breath of fresh air to R&B.

He will make her a star because with the awards and the American Idol lost if he makes this happen, he will no doubt be given alot of the credit, all that is going on right now is calculated, trust me, he has his hands all over this.
i wish her the best, i like what I’ve seen so far, the voice is really nice, she reminds me of an early Whitney, maybe that’s what Clive sees, i think he said that about her recently…. that’s the difference between JHud and kimberly Locke- and you are so right he will be using it to his advantage, it’s not so much about JHUD but for him to get the credit….

Kimberley Locke was not signed with Clive Davis. She is and always has been signed to Curb Records and was more of a Pop/Country singer after American Idol.
I agree with #79. She will be in a totally different class of R&B than what’s out right now. It’ll be more traditional R&B and not this hip hop or pop flavored R&B. I personally like a little bit of all of it. I can’t deal with straight up soul R&B 24 hours a day. I can’t get ready for the club listening to that. LOL There is room for all of it. Jennifer will find her niche and she’ll be successful, it may not sell like the hip hop/pop stuff but she WILL be successful. I just hope that people are smart enough not to compare her sales to “others” knowing full well they are not doing the same type of music.

Foxxy380, you’re right. I did forget about Fantasia and another one, who gets no props….Leela James. I wholeheartedly agree that Fantasia is breath of fresh air.
#98 I agree with you and like how you separated the R&B out. Maybe the awards shows and the music industry need to do the same thing. You can’t listen to it 24 hours a day. When I’m ready to party, I turn on the radio to listen to some upbeat music to get the party started before I leave the house.
Without these few that sing traditional R&B, there is no else representing that style on the airwaves. Hip hop and pop flavored R&B dominate the airwaves though. I, too, hope that others don’t compare her numbers to other artists. If anyone wants to compare, I say compare people in the same R&B venue.

#57 You can believe that stuff if you want. But one thing celebrities do not do is down one another on tv. Unless they’re rappers trying to compete with one another (ex Jay-Z & Nas). But Beyonce is who she is but not too many women can come from nothing and get an Oscar nominations and GG awars, SAG awards and no cd’s out whatsoever. # 106. Honey YES, I am a grown ass woman. Furthermore, I am a college grad (Go Gram!) and I have a masters in International Management, so I think you should take your own advice and get back to school. First of all yes I see that you stated positive things about her, why not just leave it at that, but you post your negativety before your positve. I could understand if the critism wa constructive, but it wasn’t it was just dissing her because you felt like it. You are predicting ill will on the girl and her boyfriend and for what, since that is your opinion, what are you basing it on? I said boyfriend because that is what she called him. Since you understand that I am intitled to my opinion, you can also understand I can post whatever I feel whether i’m wrong or right just like you making these unfound comments about this lady. So because I disagree with you it warrants you to right this ridiculous attack comment?
So, if you are a “grown ass woman” that shit REALLY speak volumes!! I can’t wish you a nice day because apparently at 12:00 this afternoon yours became screwed up! CLEO.

I still haven’t made it through all of the comments yet. But what I have read so far epitomizes how ppl act when they are jealous and very intimidated.
Jennifer Holiday said that someone she really admired walked up on her and told her, her voice was too heavy and loud and that she would never make it. She was initially hurt but she later realized that this celeb (that she admired) was really jealous and intimidated.
People on here are trying to tell J-Hud what genre she should stick with, she didn’t act well, she’s fat, blah, blah, blah. ALL of the ppl who have said mean-spirited things about J-Hud needs to practice what yall preach.
Let’s see, she is bound to get an Oscar and a Grammy is inevitable. #74…I totally agree with the “BROADWAY” statement. J-Hud, go work that BROADWAY stage so you will not only have an Oscar and a Grammy, but YOU will be the FIRST African American female to win ALL three.
BESIDES, THERE’S NO ONE ELSE OUT THERE THAT HAS A CHANCE IN HELL. Hello, you are J-Hud! Oprah said this is YOUR year. #57 did you go deaf when Oprah said that?

#84..I’M NOT SURE IF WE SAW THE SAME MOVEIE…WE ARE TALKING ABOUT DREAMGIRLS; RIGHT..WELL I WILL TELL YOU I SAW THE MOVIE AND BEYONCE WAS NOT CHEATED OUT OF AN AWARD..SHE RECEIVED JUST WHAT SHE DESERVED, NOTHING..THE SAME THING SHE DID FOR THE MOVIE DREAMGIRLS. THE ONLY TIME I PAID ATTENTION TO HER IN THE MOVIE IS WHEN SHE WAS SINGING LISTEN AND THAT IT..
