MUSIQ SOULCHILD INTERVIEW SCHEDULED
Wednesday, February 28, 2007

Attention all Musiq Soulchild fans! I will be interviewing the musician later on this week, and wanted to know if you had any questions for him. Of course I cannot use them all, but I will select some of the best ones.
Make sure you check out Musiq’s new video, “Buddy” and get that album on March 13th.

I got a qestion for Musiq! Musiq, what was your inspiration for making such a wack ass song such ass “Buddy”? Furthermore, the use of the song “Heartbeat” as a sample is so 1980’s.. I expected more from a talented guy like yourself.
P.S. I know this question will never be posed to Musiq, and in all likelihood will be deleted and maybe I will be banned! Heavens no! What shall I do..

If you see fit to select my question please ask him who his greatest musical inspiration is. And congrats on snagging this interview. He’s one of the few artists I care to hear/read an interview about. Unlike some others I know I won’t get the usual “Nah Mean” and “Nah Whut I’m Sayin”. He’ll probably have something intelligent to say.

why was his promotional tour so disapponting?
Its been reported all over internet, in several cities.
I saw him at Rams Head and he ran (didn’t sing)from the mic all night!!! We understood it was a promotional tour, wich he repeatedly said, even if he sung two songs…it should have been much better.
Stop taking fans for granted!!!!!

Okay, I think his new single is quite funky, but I’m curious to know:
He speaks that a ‘Buddy’ is ‘a different type of commitment’. Does he care to elaborate on what kind of commitment that is? Just sex partners? Just friends? Or Both?

Question:
Having listened to all of his albums to date, it seems most of his songs sound like they are sung right from the heart, and a lot of emotion can be felt when listening. I was wondering if that meant that a lot of his songs were personal to him, and so I guess my question would be if Musiq has any influences that he draws from when writing/performing?
and also why doesn;t he have spaces in his song names lol

@19 I agree. I just saw him two weeks ago in Norfolk, VA and he was HORRIBLE. He only sang 4 of his own songs and the rest of the night he say James Brown, Gerald Levert, D’angelo and the band just played and played. His singing was off and he is not Gerald Levert or D’angelo. Then he was trying to dance like James Brown and he can’t dance. I love Musiq, I have all 3 of his albums, but I was very disappointed with his show. He needs to step his game up. I am definitely put off buying his album until I hear the whole thing.

QUESTION: Recently, you were in Dallas, TX doing a concert. I was there, and you said Dallas was one of the better cities as far as who knew and bought your music. Was that a true statement or were you just trying to make us feel good?
QUESTION: Being at the Dallas concert, I had a great time, the music was nice, you sounded great but alot of the fans kinda of felt like they didnt get enough of Musiq. For one, you were an hour late coming out then you didnt sing enough of your own songs. I, personally, I was just hype that night and I loved it all but I definitely understand what everyone was talking about. So your next wave of tours, will you be performing longer than an hour with your own material?

Your albums seem to follow some type of pattern of whats real in a relationship. I like the honesty in your songs. But why does every first single off your albums deal with trying to become “friends” or “buddies”? Are you seeing anyone right now that would give you this type of inspiration when writing?

Question: Ask him why his hair get straighter and the girls get lighter with every new album? His first video “just friends” he had a fro and a brown woman. Then he had an S-Curl thing going on then he had a cesar type perm. Did he feel pressure from his label to change up?

I’m lookiong forward to this interview.
I have a question for him Angel. He was scheduled to perform here in South Africa with Will Downing some time last year but he didn’t pitch up and we were told that he “missed his flight”. Most of us didn’t believe that, please ask him what was the real reason he didn’t make it to South Africa to please his millions of fans here.
Another question, the last album, Soulstar, wasn’t as successful as the the previous 2, especially the debut album. What is it that he has done in Luvanmusiq that will propel him back to the standard he set out with his debut album? When he did that album, was he conscious of the fact that he had to come out hard to reclaim his throne, if I may?

1. I know you are musically influenced by the late great Donny Hathaway. Have you ever made an attempt to do a collaboration or something musical with his daughter, Lalah, who is still actively pursuing music?
2. What happened with your situation over at Island/Def Jam, and is that move what prompted your decision to do more mainstream R&B on your latest album?

#57 Musiq does not have a perm….that his nature hair….his fro was his natural hair….he doesn’t have a s-curl that is his natural….a person can change their style for themselves there is no exact reason….or issues or pressure from anyone to change their style….#63 he does not have a prosthetic eye…his left eye is lazy….that’s all nothing more nothing less..#19 and #42…I think the reason why he wasn’t on stage long enough was because the venues that he performed at didnt’ give him enough time to be on stage….it’s not his fault…..all venues have rules and time limits for acts to be on stage….A lot of people that is in my fanbase group said the same thing it’s the venue….and he doesn’t take his fans for granted….

Regarding the Promo Tours: I attended several and I thought that Musiq did a wonderful job of bringing the old school to the new school. Especially since it was BLACK HISTORY MONTH and some of our greats have unfortunately passed away recently. I’ve been to many concerts when people don’t even realize that Musiq has done a cover of a song, because they are not musically educated in our musical history or how we impacated the music industry as a race.
My other comment is, have YOU been in a different city every night, working your butt off on stage? Lights, camera action basically 24/7 trying to promote yourself. Every venue has rules, regulations that must be followed. And at times, THEY have the last say about how long a show will last. Try packing everything into a 90 minute show, not easy.
The Norva unfortunately was not, in my opinion, prepared for the amount of people who came to the concert and it showed in how they treated their guests.
When the real tour hits, then make your comments, but a Promo is just that. Short, sweet and to the point.
PEACE LUVANMUSIQ - AND BUY not BOOTLEG the CD

The point is….if you weren’t on the scene for a minute. Promo or not….give your best.
Black History month or not, give your best. Here we go with the excuses…maybe he should take a break from city to city. Why give a powerful show in one city and be tired in the next. Rules and regulations has nothing to do with your singing. When the real tour hits, oh! he won’t be tired? Whats the difference between a real tour and a promo? The promo should be better. Stop counting the minutes…minutes has nothing to do with it. BUDDY?

4 questions for musiq
a) after aijuswanseing, you dropped the ’soulchild’ from your name because you havent mastered the craft and couldnt consider yourself ‘music’s soulchild’. after a 4 year gap from juslisen and this new one, did you add the soulchild back because you’ve acheived that level you mastery youve aimed for?
b) what was it like leaving def jam? were they not focusing on your and your musiq after president carter took over?
c) how does coming from a background with christian and muslim teachings influence your music?
d) there is no doubt that you are one of the most influential persons in the “neo-soul” genre. however artists in the genre have kind of fallen off recently (ie dangelo, lauryn hill, erykah badu, and others). what is it that keeps coming out with fresh material? is it the hip hop element to your music or do you accredit it to something else?

#65 and #70 No one is making excuses for him….I was stating what the members of the fanbase group on yahoo that I have for him told me……and stating again….if the venue you perform at doesn’t give you enough time to get on stage and perform the way you would like to then what are u supposed to do….he’s at their mercy…and he haven’t been on the scene for some time for you which you already know…so it’s just a promo tour….the major tour hasnt’ happened…yet and I’m pretty sure he will do the damn thing then…and yes I’m a devoted fan of his and will represent him to the fullest…..again no one is making excuses for him….I understand you feel like the show could’ve been better…but hey he had a certain amount of time and that’s it…call TLA and complain to them for not letting him perform longer to your liking!!!

To Gwynne:
Since this is primarily supposed to be about the upcoming interview regarding the promotion of his Album. Why don’t you ask him what goes on behind the scenes? (dealing with management, venues, transportation or in other words the LOGISTICS of putting on any kind of a show) Ask him what his schedule is like on a daily basis? Ask him on a typical show night, what does he have to do to get through the night?
I follow several musicians and I’ve been there through set-up, rehersals, venue problems, security problems, weather conditions affecting your voice, but as the old addage says, “The Show Must Go On,” or you’d have something else to complain about. RIGHT?
Either way, until you take a walk in his shoes, I’d step lightly.
MUCH PEACE

I went to Radio City Music Hall to see Musiq and Jill. Being a fan I’ve seen Musiq before but at smaller venues like S.O.Bs and he was great. Yesterday, his performance was mediocre to say the least. He had band issues and in all fairness anybody that follows the likes of Mo’Nique will be rattled. She was not the comedian for this type of show. She did nothing to set the mood for a neo soul experience. She was the epitome of embarrassment for black folks, she was raunchy, cursed profusely, and give exploit details of sexual acts that would even embarrass Snoop. She was a poor, poor choice of and host/comedian. This made it extremely difficult to enjoy the real reason we were their.

Hi,
I would like to know when will Musiq be performing in nyc. I haven’t seen Misiq in concert as of yet. I’m always find out about his shows a day or two too late! It’s like the saying ” A day late, and a dollar short, ” but thank God I’m never short on a dollar. I know he’s going to be doing a ski trip with Gator production, but I can’t make it. I have papers to do for school. I really just want to see him. Not in the weekend party mood. Let me know when he’s coming back to BB Kings night club in Time Square. I just want to also say that I love your music Musiq, and keep doing what your doing. God Bless and be safe.
