THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW

Friday, February 9, 2007 |

Rich Boy feat. Sean Paul - What It Do (full) - download
Another Rich Boy song has leaked, finally - I think that people were wondering if he had any other material besides “Throw Some D’s.” Anyway, this song is supposedly produced by Polow Da Don. Although it’s nothing as hard as “Throw Some D’s,” I think that fans of southern music will be really excited for the release of this album. However, I’m a little disappointed in this production, if it is Polow. He usually comes up with stuff a little more innovative than that. Or if not innovative, something that’s different from the norm or that uses elements of music from the past.

Timbaland feat. The Hives - Throw It On Me (full) - download
This track makes me a little excited for Timbaland’s upcoming album, whose debut single is the song that people made an uproar about (”Give It To Me” - which features Nelly Furtado and has Justin Timberlake coming for Prince & Janet Jackons’s throats). The first single, I wasn’t super impressed by, but I’m really digging this song. I’m glad Timbaland used The Hives (who happen to be one of my favorite bands). I’ve heard really good things about this upcoming album, and although 2006 was a good year for Timbaland, with a few hit singles, I hope this album knocks - because just ’cause you can burn out hot stuff for artists, it doesn’t neccessarily mean you’ll make the hotness for yourself.

M.I.A.’s GOT THAT BIRD FLU!

Friday, February 9, 2007 |

mia.jpg

This is a little different for CL, but I thought, “Hey, why not?” If you’ve never heard of her, M.I.A. is an MC from London (by way of Sri Lanka). Her debut album, “Arular” dropped in 2005 and garnered a lot of success in the United States and internationally, appearing in several US commercials, as well as ad campaigns and being banged in clubs around the world. Well, M.I.A. is back with a brand new single, entitled “Bird Flu.” This song is electric. I really love stuff like this, but then again, my taste can be kind of funky. Let me know what you guys think, because I’d love to give more updates on her project. For more information about M.I.A. and her upcoming album, log on to miauk.com or check her out on MySpace!

WHO SANG IT BETTER? NICOLE SCHERZINGER VS. ASHANTI

Friday, February 9, 2007 |

Now, I know these two are not exactly the same song, but they are definitely very similiar. The first to come out was Nicole Scherzinger’s “Steam.” It’s produced by my homeboy Bryan-Michael Cox. I’m not exactly sure whether or not this is going to make the cut for her album, but I love the track all of the same. I think it’s a great dance record. However, when 7 & Ashanti dropped “My Number, Babe,” I was pleasantly surprised because it reminds me of a Prince record (mainly because of 7’s vocals), and because it’s a duet. But the production is pretty much identical. Which one do you prefer? Who rides the beat better? Nicole of Pussycat Dolls fame or Ashanti?

INTRODUCING JOSS STONE…

Thursday, February 8, 2007 |

joss_stuff.jpg

British soul singer and songwriter Joss Stone will release her third album, “Introducing Joss Stone,” on March 20th on Virgin Records. An electrifying mix of warm vintage soul, ’70s-style R&B, Motown girl-group harmonies, and hip-hop grooves, the album is the one that Stone describes as “truly me. That’s why I’m calling it Introducing Joss Stone,” she says. “These are my words, and this is who I am as an artist.” The new single, titled “Tell Me What We Gonna Do” features Common and is a funky track that kind of reminds me of Nikka Costa’s debut album. Make sure you check out Joss’s new album.

ANNA NICOLE SMITH DEAD AT 39

Thursday, February 8, 2007 |

Anna Nicole Smith dead @ 39
Reality TV star and former Playboy playmate Anna Nicole Smith was pronounced dead Thursday after being found unconscious in her Florida hotel room. A nurse was with her and her bodyguard performed CPR in the room, police said. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, police said.

“I can confirm that she is deceased. It’s as shocking to me as to you guys,” Smith’s attorney, Ronald Rale, told Reuters. “I don’t know anything further. [Her lawyer and husband] Howard [K. Stern], obviously, is speechless and grieving.”

Smith’s nurse called Seminole Hard Rock Hotel workers at 1:38 p.m. and security went to the room, hotel officials told Reuters. Fire rescue workers arrived within minutes, and Smith was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood at 2:10 p.m.

DID ANNA’S MOM SEE THIS COMING?

In October 2006, Anna Nicole Smith’s mom, Virgie Arthur, told Nancy Grace on CNN Headline News that after the death of Anna’s son, Daniel, she was concerned that Howard K. Stern was the one in line to inherit Anna’s millions.

“If Howard Stern marries her and she ends up dead, then who does the money go [to]? Danny’s not there,” Arthur said.
