THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW

Rich Boy – Boy, Looka Here (full) – download
This song knocks, I really dig the beat. But then again, I’m not too surprised because Polow Da Don produced it, and he’s on top of his game right now. I’m randomly excited about Rich Boy’s project. He’s signed to Polow’s Zone 4 Records, which is under Interscope Records. They’re pretty good about putting out their projects, and I’m sure they’re excited, considering that Rich Boy has been doing really well in southern markets with “Throw Some D’s.” And with the remix video in the makings, there can only be more success.

Jennifer Hudson – Overjoyed (full) – download
Although I’m loving all the progression of J. Hud’s career, I’m not feeling this remake of the Stevie Wonder hit “Overjoyed.” I think more than anything, it has more to do with the production on the song, because Jennifer’s voice sounds wonderful. Her voice sounds flawless and beautiful, but there’s something about this that just doesn’t sit right with me. I’m hoping that this is just something she recorded, and doesn’t involve her album at all.

Kelly Rowland feat. Eve – Like This (full) – download
I posted this song earlier, and like I said, I was hoping that Kelly would come a little harder than this. I don’t see this as her “come back” song. It’s radio friendly, and I understand the direction she was going in, but the song just doesn’t quite do it for me. I think Kelly needs to go back to the drawing board again and put together something a little different for the new album, “Miss Kelly.” She’s got a lot of artist to compete with this year and I don’t think this is going to get the job done.

Lea – Get Lost In Your Love (full) – download
I haven’t heard much about this girl’s project as of late. If you have absolutely no idea who she is, she’s Lea. Remember that single Lil’ Flip came out with a while back? “Sunshine?” Well, she’s the chick that was featured on the hook. Earlier in the summer of ’06, a few tracks leaked from her produced by the Corner Boyz, and since then, there’s been nothing to surface from her since, so I was admittedly surprised to see this from her. Although her voice isn’t the best, I like how it rides over the production.

  8. Dave

Kelly needs to retitle her album. Miss Kelly? Thats so boring just like she is. She needs to work on her solo appeal bcuz right now she has none.

  9. MostHated

So, I totally love “LOST IN YOUR LOVE” and have for like almost two years. It was on a mixtape a while back, and I used to jamm. I’m glad CLoop posted it untagged and shizzle. Keel it, y’all!

  10. MissEnvied

YALL must of known I was just ITCHING for something new to listen to on my iPod while @ the gym…lol Luv em’ all esp. Kelly!

  11. Dave

Lea needs to get lost. Forget about the lovin part. Just go away. The rich boy joint is aight.

  12. Renee

    Love the J-Hud Overjoyed!

  13. Young Eaz

That lea song is like a year old

  14. gezzy

omg……… effie oops i mean j.hud sounds good

  15. CVizzle

Thanks Brian. The J. Hud joint brings me back! I really like it, even though it kinda sounds like a karaoke version of the original. Oh well, good to see that she’s doing her thing.

  16. SassyTeri

    I LOVE Jennifer! Great song.

  17. Lady Cole

the j hud overjoyed version sounds like it would be played on a smooth jazz station. i agree wit brian, i luv her voice but not feeln the production

  18. BrothaSeed

I’m going to need for “Miss Kelly” to leave the Knowles Camp immediately. Obvisously they still have Solange writing songs for her.

Take a note from LaToya , do you and get a #1 Album.

  19. Catie

i happen to like kelly’s song. i think it is a cool song

  20. Badgyrl

I like JHud’s song; it’s very pretty. Glad there are some artists who make music that will appeal to us 30somethings and all of the fans of old school music. I just pray that she won’t turn around and put out a song like “hood boy.”

  21. dee

jennifer’s voice is ok but the production sounds a bit karoke.

  22. Coko

I am a Stevie fan to the grave and not everyone can do a Stevie song…and she didn’t do it. Where was Elliott? (on last years American Idol) He could blow that shyt out the water.

  23. Lea Lea

I think I like Kelly’s song now. I hope kelly really gains the commercial success she deserves.

J.hud-ok i guess. She will never have a “crossover” success, she will only appeal to grown black folks over the age of 30. I could be wrong, but J.hud is so Broadway.

    Lea-nothing spectacular………..mediocre.

rich boy- the beat is tuff.

  24. Young Eaz

I heard that the kelly song is just the promo single to get a buzz goin

  25. Rich boy- GARBAGE

    J.Hud- Not Bad (Amazing voice)

Kelly-Feelin it (could do better tho..)

    Lea- HOT, STIR-FRIED GARBAGE!!!

  26. algie

jhud’s voice is flawless and nice on the ears and i love the kelly and eve song

  27. Don't Matter

Brian I like your site design….

im feeling that rich boy track i hope his album is worth.

  28. lea doesn’t look like the same girl. anyway don’t care for the songs. kelly’s was ok but she needs to do better and could. papa knowles has so much money. he could’ve gotten better producers

  29. misunderstood

i love the j.hud version of overjoyed,it was pretty and it had a nice jazz vibe to it,her voice is so refreshing. it’s good to hear someone who can actually sing nowadays, i guess some of us will never be satisfied we complain about how we are tired of the non singers currently in the music business, but then we turned around and say things like she will never have cross over appeal to anyone under 30 or she should only sing on broadway, well whitney houston was successful strong voice and all, if we are really tired of these mediocre singers then we should be supporting someone like j.hud not predicting that her career will go no where! and when since is someone’s voice to strong, she is not yelling,it’s called singing! i know some of you are so use to listening to ciara and cassie that when you hear some real singing you find it unusual.i’m under 30 and i can appreciate j.hud and can’t wait to hear her upcoming album

  30. Schaeffer

Very nice rendition JHud, it seems to me lately the world have problemm with anything good and embrace the bad.

  31. music fanatic

#31 I love whitney and still listen to her….please don’t compare j.hud to whitney who is the greatest singer of all time.

Now as far as ciara and cassie…..ciara is the ish…..cassie i don’t really listen to. ciara can actually sing and she’s a POP star, J.Hud is in a totally different genre of music(just because they are both black does not mean they are both rnb/soul)….I have different tastes in music than you, which of whom j.hud does not appeal to. J.Hud’s voice is broadway, and she’s not an entertainer just a singer. In my book there is a difference. Beyonce has the crossover appeal j.hud will never have. sorry i have to bring her name up.

  32. vpayne

yeaa lostiin your loveis pretty old..and its corny…WWW thats the shit yo!

  33. concet

honest opinion or what? rich boy- garbage
j hud- eva heard of original
    kelly- shadow oops! shallownez
    lea- who? the f**

  34. sarah

ok the rich boy song is knockin and the lea song is whatever but that jennifer hudson is not hot. her voice is too heavy it sounds like she has a frog stuck in her throat..all that worked 4 dreamgrls and the nature of the character but she needs to learn dynamics in diff. genres

  35. Swiggles007

Did someone say Ciara can sing…..Lmao! Now-a-days it’s all about the song more then ever. Cassie came out with a catchy song thats easy to sing along with, but the girl can’t sing for sh*t. Look at this years american idol….24 contestents, and 14 of them are white. It’s like that every year. We might be the minority as far as population, but not when it comes to singing. Look at Mariah,Christina and other white performers(who can actually sing),notice how their background singers are always black. Matter-of-fact,one of the 3 sistas’ on idol (I think her last name is Doolittle)was a back-up singer and she sings better than 99% of the chicks in the game! No#33 said Jhud is not a entertainer….shiiiiit….Marish Carey is stiffer then a morning hard-on, and she the number 1 selling female artist ever! I guess iam spoiled because my girl looks as good or better than most females, so Iam not pressed’ for all the booty shakin’ that goes on, on bet and mtv. My point is ….we need to start supporting our true singers because thats what it’s called, singing!

  36. Lea

I think ciara can sing…..others define singing by how big their octave range is or how many runs or shouts they can do in a song, ciara can sing; but she is not a powerhouse singer or a vocalist. Now whitney houston was a true “vocalist”. Now as far as cassie-she can’t sing that well at all, but she makes music that people like. I’m sorry but J.hud is boring and I said it before……her voice is made for broadway in my opinion. I still like her though and I want her to be successful.

  37. nette & eZ

I’ve never heard the original 2 J-Hud’s song, but i do think its a good warm song.

im not really feeling this music review tho.

  38. FlagHouse

I guess this is why Mathew Knowls pushed Kelly’s cd back . She needs more work.

  39. I THINK THAT KELLY ROWLAND’S CD IS GOING TO DO GREAT!!! I LIKE THIS SONG AND I WAS ON MY SPACE AND FOUND ANOTHER SONG OF HERS. IT CALLED “MY EX”. NOW THAT SONG IS THE SHIT!!

  40. Honey

Kelly’s is the only song worth listening to the rest is certified grade A GARBAGE

  41. Mellymel

The Kelly joint is ok, I wished she camed harder than thaat but we’ll see how it will do…
Now, I love J-Hud but I’m not impressed with this version of overjoyed… I remenber listening to her version of “neither one of us” by Gladys Night and I absolutely LOVED IT!(ya’ll should post it), I was expecting the same with this one but I guess I was wrong. Oh well, I still love her and can’t wait to cop her album.

  42. Mellymel

    correction
    *that
    *remember

  43. andrea

jennifer hudsons song sounds like a corny ass song they would play for “Holidays at JcPenny” commercials.

  44. DC WALK

Thanks yall so much for sharing good music, I think that tha Rich Boy’s release will be very good !

  45. @ 31- actually there is such a thing as having a too strong voice. it’s like florence ballard from the supremes. i heard that when she sang they had to put her several feet away from the mic cuz her voice was so strong. jhud has that type of voice. it’s not a bad thing at all. it’s just that it’ll be harder for her to crossover. look at how they ended up replacing florence with diana. florence’s voice was too strong to appeal to whites. now whitney (and other powerhouses) have big voices as well but they’re voices r a bit higher than jenn’s, tonewise so they can crossover

  46. Bianca

Love Kelly’s song, it’s hot and different. Can’t wait for the album and she did work with Great producers.

Jennifer tired of her over singing, I know it’s her voice but I couldn’t stand to listen to a entire Jennifer album she’s too broadway.

  47. swin

Love the new music. Keep it up.

  48. diamond

that lea tune is old. i heard it a long time ago.

  49. yes

Lea’s song is cute, she reminds me of Amerie

  50. Kelly’s song sounds like somethin’ I’d jam to mad hard while drivin’ with the windows down =]

  51. steelo

man that lea joint is old..they’re stalling on her and she fine as hell.

  52. TonyP2210

That Kelly song is wack. Good voice, bad producers.

  53. I love Rich Boy’s sound and voice(I love my country bois!)…I just wish he had the looks to match.

  54. QBEVE

This single is giving us a sneak preview of what Clive Davis is trying to do as package Jennifer’s audience and market. With this being said, I think he is trying to do a new Whitney, in which she is only going to be singing a lot of real R & B and classy music style. He has to be careful, because although A-Keys, had to re-invent herself because she was not marketed right as far as her style and where she was exactly coming from. I think the classic”Overjoyed” should had been fused with a bit of carribean flow to it… I hope Clive does not put Jennifer in a too conservative market range….I think we are going to have to sit back in the cut and wait to see what happens with her style and her album to come…. I am concerned about Kelly’s new single too. I mean it will be hot for a min…and that’s it. There should had been a lot more producers and effort put into her first single like what the CL peeps are saying…again, is this another weak move on the Knowles, knowing that Solange’s garbage is going to be re-released again? Is Kelly going to have a decent time on the charts for her album and just have two single/hits? This is what happened to her last album…so that Beyonce could have all the limelight for Dangerously In Love. Almost all of Beyonce’s songs on each of her albums had videos, and had a lot more exposure than Kelly’s and I think this is what’s going to happen to Kelly, in light of Solange! The rest of the artist are H.A.G (Hot Azz Garbage).

  55. CHILDS

@Brian yo de fuck up!!! Kelly’s new record is hot “Like This” is guud..it’s better than that damn Beyonce record “World Wide Woman” da fuck out of here with that garbage Bey

  56. CHILDS

Man Jennifer Hudson will blow Beyonce off the stage with her voice any day…any damn day…i tell ya boy smh

  57. neesh

J Huds voice sounds great when she sings soft. I agree that she’s not going to reach the younger crowds though. She so grown and sexy all the time. I couldn’t imagine her over a cool beat and rocking to it. I would buy it to chill at the house to.

  58. Ciara cannot sing and neither can Lea but she might be better or worse I can’t tell.

Rich Boy…I like it, can’t wait for the album.

Kelly Rowland…uhh nope! I’ve heard much better songs.

J-Hud…I’m not a ol’ head so I don’t want to listen to it.
