I totally agree with both your posts. Plus, since when does celebrating black history month means talking about yourself and what you’ve accomplished! Damn, highlights some pioneers in the black community that actually contributed TO THE BETTERMENT of black people where it made a difference. Sorry, gettin an SI cover doesn’t contribute to the betterment of black people as a whole. Sorry, just can’t see where we ALL benefitted from that. Actually Tyra achieved 2 firsts with SI. She was the first black woman to appear in a Cover of SI EVER When she appeared in the leopard print bikini back to back with Valeria Mazza, AND she was the first black woman to appear by herself in a Cover of SI when she did the polka dot bikini cover. So that’s 2. And yes Bev and Iman did pave the was, and Naomi had her contributions as well as many others, but Tyra was the one who got the accomplishment of the SI Covers and that shouldnt be diminished just bc someone happens to be sick and tired of her and her media exposure.

To the people who may not understand how or why this is celebrating Black history….it’s because Tyra was the first Black woman to be put on the cover of Sports Illustrated. There were none before her, so please give the woman her props. It’s another milestone that Black people are crossing. We are doing the things that some White people said couldn’t be done. Serena/Venus took over tennis, Tiger Woods is doing the golf thing and you’ve got more Black entrepreneurs than ever. If that ain’t something to be proud of, I don’t know what is.
