Eh, it may be a harsh response, but part of me sticks by it. Nobody would have put up for this shit if this was a white man saying these things about black people, and when Michael Richards got caught up in his hate people were calling on him to be sued and all sorts of things. It just angers me that when the same happens to gay people we’re expected to just suck it up. It’s all kinds of disrespectful. Tim Hardaway said these things so publicly, not just because it’s what he felt in his heart, but because he thought the world didn’t care enough and he would be able to get away with it. Hopefully him losing his endorsements sends the message that hate, in ALL of its forms and not matter WHO it’s directed at, should not be publicly tolerated in a country where EVERYONE should have the right to live their lives.

I think it’s funny, just as I would have had it been released before he said any of the things he did. I don’t find it sexually arousing because I don’t find Hardaway to be an attractive man. To answer your question, I can’t really say whether or not it’s justified, but I’m leaning towards no. I said on the first page that there’s nothing inherently gay about Hardaway being naked in a men’s locker room–that’s pretty standard behavior. The only “gay” thing about it was the fact that somebody was recording it for some unknown reason, and the camera stayed almost entirely focused on Hardaway, maybe they were trying to say something with that. I don’t know…

Wrong. Where did I say that Hardaway should suffer any legal consequences? I will say that his words are pretty close falling into the exceptions of free speech territory, but even in my extremely dislike of his I can admit that he didn’t say something that should be legally reprehensible.

However, that doesn’t change the fact that he words were very hateful, but I’m glad the PUBLIC is putting him his place (as is the case with his loss of endorsements and general public disapproval).

The link I gave you was an example of exceptions to free speech. Hate speech falls into some of those descriptions as well, but it doesn’t encompass all of them. What Hardaway said definitely falls into the category of hate speech for the simple fact that he’s attacking a group of people on the basis of their sexual orientation, one of the prerequisites. I told you earlier that nothing he said is legally reprehensible. Stop trying to turn this idiot into a freedom fighter of some sort. He has the right to hate who he wants–that’s free speech. Companies have the right to remove their endorsements because his views don’t align with their own–that’s free enterprise.
