Some of you may have noticed people rocking a green beaded bracelet in the last couple of posts…and right beside them is Russell Simmons cheesing. Well the bracelet comes from his “Green Initiative” jewelry collection designed by Simmons Jewelry Co. (yea, the Simmons have jewelry too).

Russell announced in December of last year that 25% percent of the proceeds will go toward the Diamond Empowerment Fund, which will support institutions, like schools and colleges, in South Africa and Botswana and help boost economic development.

Yesterday, A Diamond Affair hosted the “Green Initiative Launch” where Eva Marcelle, Sanaa Lathan, and Serena Williams came out to model the jewels from his collection…

Serena looks so much like a man it’s scary. I’m not feeling Sanaa’s dress. Where was Russell’s giant wife?

  2. Ninagirl1

Sounds good to me. But when did Eva’s last name change?

  3. Ti

Eva didn’t change her last name she just goes by her first and middle name (Marcelle) now…I’m not feeling the black hair on her though!

  4. AISHA

I THOUGHT EVA’S LAST NAME WAS PIGFORD???? AM I LATE?? DID SHE GET MARRIED?? WHY IS HER LAST NAME MARCELLE??

  5. Hmmmm. I could buy an ugly green bracelet and have 25% of the proceeds go to charity, or I could donate money directly to the charity.

What the forgeezy is going on with Serenas’ eyebrows! I’m used to the tore up weave. She reminds me of the captain in Police Academy when they glued the carpet onto his face.

Does Serena have on a lacefront? Lol.

    #59 NigerQueen!

I feel you NigerQueen! But, Nigeria needs to atone for some of its atrocities first! No one wants to help people who think they’re the shizznic! African Americans know the story and the history of Africa’s struggles! We’re not just rich folks giving money away without research. Much of Nigeria’s proplems stem from its government, leaders and the men who corrupt the streets! There is great wealth in Nigeria, but its only available to the people in power! So, I agree with all that you said, but there is a strong caveat for change amoung Nigeria’s leaders and demeanor! We see the proud look on the faces of your countrymen when they come to America! I would like to see more done in other areas, but Nigeria is already plush by the standards of its neighbors! Also, if you are here in America, you probably are the benifactor of the corruption! I’m not accusing you, but most of the Nigerians who come to America have kindred stains on their garments!

    Sorry Sis!

    Wow….Meatloaf #69

I don’t know what to say. Maybe its by fault for mentioning my Nigerian heritage. But a few things. Nigerians are corrupt this is true. Nigeria is a land rich in natural resources this is true. And yes I do not live in Nigeria, I was born and reside in Europe.

I am not corrupt. My father is a doctor, he is not a benefactor of corruption. He was one of 13 siblings who went to secondary school. My mother is a civil servant. They have both worked extremely hard to work themselves out of relative poverty. I find it insulting that the only way that I can be living in the western world is through benefitting from Nigerian corruption. Corruption in nigeria and throughout Africa DISGUSTS me.

I did not claim that I wanted more celebrities to put more money into Nigeria, I spoke of poorer, needier Afican nations. You seem to have ignored this. As you mention, Nigerian is in a way (natural resources) a wealthy country, as is South Afica. I advocate more help for other African countries. I singled out no particular country, unlike how celebrities seem to single out South Africa.

I am saddened by your post. It is as if you heard the word Nigerian and disregarded everything else I wrote.

I hope you are the voice of a minority within America.

What about Haiti? I know it’s not in Africa but it’s even closer to the States and it’s the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Why is nothing ever done to help that country?

    LOL!!

If I knew the “BEADED” Bracelets was coming back in STYLE I never would have threw mines out a couple of weeks ago (while doing spring cleaning).

  16. Sanaa and Eva are two beautiful women standing next to Serena the damn GIANT….she looks like a big booty tranny!!! And #72 if you love Sanaa you would know that woman never steps out looking crazy. I’ve never seen her look a mess even without makeup that girl is sharp. Clothes and all! She looks beautiful in these pics and the outfit is appropriate for the event she’s attending! Beautiful woman!

  17. Shag

There is nothing nicer than mixing beauty and a positive message. Good for Russell.
