Many have named Amy Winehouse the “White Lauryn Hill,” but I think she’s so much more than that. And Questlove of the Roots, himself, acclaimed that “this is the album Lauryn Hill wanted to make.” A bold statement, true indeed, but I couldn’t agree more. “Back to Black,” Amy Winehouse’s dark and soulful sophomore set came out just this Tuesday, but has critics and fans reeling. Amy Winehouse, already claiming the spot for #1 album in the UK, finally released the Salaam Remi & Mark Ronson-produced “Back to Black” in the States this week, although her US single, “Rehab” was released in October of ’06. “Back to Black” is nothing short of a masterpiece. Amy’s sick with the pen and the vocals are serious. This girl is nothing to mess with.
Check out more Amy Winehouse on her official site, amywinehouse.com.
Make sure you check out Amy’s videos for “Rehab” and “You Know I’m No Good.” And be sure to check her out on MySpace and show her some love. This girl is truly talented.

Amy Winehouse is a really talented girl. Seriously, her and Robin Thicke are giving me what I need these days. Recently, I’ve been bumping blue-eyed soul. It’s a crazy thing to hear this amazing voice and material come from this girl. If you’re interested in purchasing “Back to Black” after hearing these tracks, it’s in stores now, or you can log on to Amazon.com to ship you a copy. But don’t sleep on her first album, “Frank.” It’s hot too.

Been listening to her since her first album but this album ranks her in my top 5. For all those making comparisons or pointing out similarities in her and Ms Hill you’ll enjoy hearing her live version of He Can Only Love Her. She does alittle Doo Wop (That Thing) snippet at the end. I never even thought about Lauryn listening to Amy but the more I heard the comparisons the more I noticed alittle similarities.

I don’t like how critics say she like Lauyren Hill. That’s not true. They should focus on her success more instead of commenting on ‘personal’ problems. I’m not that much of a fan of Bey.And I think she’s a wonderful person. But I believe Amy is more soulful than 75 percent of black artists out there today in the industry. Her music is about something. That’s why I listen to music like her’s today and old school-where the voices really matter.I’d like to go without seeing women on stage or on videos with dresses or skirts that practicaly show crouches.Or no videos that talk about having sex or seeing booties in my face.Music with a message dosen’t get ahead in America.
“but she’s not touching Lauryn lyrics or production wise, not in a million years!! Nowhere near Lauryn’s level. I have YET to find a chick as bad as LAuryn when it comes to lyrical content. Undethroned since ‘98. ”
Sorry Lauren was sued by everybody that worked on her CD and she gave up writing credit to the people who sued her. Why do you think she has not come up with a follow up
very overrated check this

I find it absolutely hilarious that you can sit on your ass and say US acts aren’t dominating the European charts at the moment. The biggests acts for 2006-07 that’s touring right now are in fact our acts. Madonna, Justin, Beyonce, Christina and Pink are slaying you guys. I’ll even include Nelly Furtado (even tho she’s Canadian) cause she’s our neighbor and US producers are responsible for her success right now. just cause you had a little resurgance on the rock side of things you wanna act a fool.
I can appreciate Amy for what she delivers but you must realize that the UK and European music scene is in more dire straits than the US right now. I have been a member of UKMIX.ORG for over three years and all they talk about are our acts. I wonder why that is??????????????
You say Amy isn’t on drugs? yeah, and neither was Anna Nicole Smith. I rest my case.
WOW! I haven’t commented on this site in sooooo long but I had to comment to give props to Amy Winehouse…. I am defintiely with you on the blue eyed soul thing…her voice is great! Rough and pretty, her music speaks to my old soul. I really love this album and has not been able to take it out of the CD player since I got it… She is very original,,, I compare her to no one, she’s got her own thing right now!
When I heard her voice it does kind of remind me of Lauryn Hill (Wish she would come out with something new).
GOOD LOOKIN’ on this review. I picked up the album on Friday. Can’t stop it. I got it on CD, on my iPod. She is the truth. …”sniffed me out like I was Tanqueray…” She is SO on point
the “me n mr. jones” track is intended for nas (as in nasir jones). there r a number of hints, including the reference to slick rick, who is commonly compared to nas. also, she describes her so-called love as a “black jew.” finally, toward the end, she says, “mr. destiny 9 n 14,” which is nas’s b-day. I think the song says more of her love (and heartbreak) for hip-hop than of any single person, or artist, though she makes clear that she’s come to expect more from nas.

Comparing Amy with Anna is ridiculous. Not even to start with your biggest Madonnatour crap argument. Justin?? I might stand up for that to scratch my ass you were thinking i was sitting on (unbelievable isn’t it?) hand luagh out hard, he is a joke.
Your arguments are weak and lame.
The only good band/artist from the US that had a breaktrough in the past couple of years is The Gossip.
I have been pumpin her damn cd. I must say i’ve become an instant fan. I cant remember the last time, I llked someone so quickly. And its not cuz of the “hype” its just cuz in my opinion, her music is the shit. Very soulful. But i saw a clip of her being drunk on stage, though it was funny as shit, she needs to get some help. Why is it, that so many TALENTED/RARE artist usually have some kind of drug/alchol issue?
Her voice is very different. Really grows on you. However a lot of her music is remakes of old stuff like Tears dry on their own is clearly Marvin Gay Ain’t no mountain… (listen closely to the music). Still she is unique and a great vocalist. Sad that they say she’s an alcoholic though. Hope she overcomes this.
Y’all need to just take a step back and hear what this chick done did. She made the music my gramamma listened to and made it bump w/ all of the soul to spare. She’s good.
Estelle estelle estelle estelle estelle…
I cannot wait till her new album drops!
Do black people have any pride for their culture nowadays. If music knows no color, then why didn’t White America want to hear the true pioneers of Rock n Roll: Fats Domino, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and Bo Diddley. When these blacks were doing it White America never considered it, but when Elvis used (stole) it then thats when they started to listen. The only white musician that I respect because he actually contributed something to Rock was Buddy Holly. Same scenerio here, you can NEVER compare this girl to Lauren Hill, Robin Thicke to Stevie Wonder. Dont label me a “Hater” or racist just because I would like to preserve my race/culture, because whites have been and are still swiping everything from blacks. To me both of them are overrated and there are many Blacks “the true faces of RnB/Soul” that are not given credit or recognized. Most of you Negreos are brainwashed into this Western/European way of life and don’t want to be identified with the black masses.
P.S. The ONLY white musicians out right now that has some type of substance is Gavin DeGraw/Jason Mraz. If anyone has soul its them.
Yea SHOCKED, I’m really feelin’ Gavin DeGraw. But I can’t stand Jason Mraz.
But Amy Winehouse is still the shit, nobody can deny that.
Amy Winehouse is that deal!
“Tears Dry on Their Own” is a song Miss Hill would give her right buttock for.
I love amy and i’m just so addicted to her since the first time I heard her voice. I don’t think she should be compared to anyone. She has a unique voice and I love the topics she picks in her songs. Her music is so light and at the same time so painful. Lauryn Hill is great too but Amy winehouse is hypnotizing. Joss stone is cool but I think she makes music to sell while Amy is so spontaneous about her music, it’s candid, she just pours her talent in her songs. At least she’s not getting greedy yet…
I love Gavin and Jason. But i love Robin Thicke, too…so i can’t really agree with shocked. But forreal, Don’t hate on Amy cuz she is that real deal. Look at the acoustic version of “Valerie” on Youtube. That’s ridiculous.

i admire amy winehouse for her honesty and great songs but i why she hasn’t been arrested yet 4 taking drugs ..i don’t know …i hate that they treat celebrities differently as if they can get away with crime. she is constantly on magazine covers for not her talent for good music but for taking drugs which is stupid .although i think drugs help her musicwise lol
I prefer Ciara Ciaras A betta entertainer and can sing and dance this broad doesn’t put on a good show , she needs to ditch the drugs and go to Rehab !
YES YES YES!

I have been surfing online more than three hours nowadays, yet I never discovered any interesting article like yours. It’s lovely worth sufficient for me. In my view, if all web owners and bloggers made just right content material as you probably did, the web will probably be much more useful than ever before.
