Well well well I have read up about miss winehouse and despite how talented she is she has a terrible uncontrollable drug problem. I think that she is going to ruin her career before it even starts. And she is no where close to Lauryn hill. Lauryn hill sings about stuff that matters f-me pumps may be lyrically good but where is the “soul”? neo soul is about a lot more than that.

I also wanna add that is it silly for people to criticize her drug problems, we all have her vices and hopefully she can overcome it. That and alot of celebrities have drug problems, MJB had problems with drugs and she overcame it and is stronger for it. I wish Amy the best.

Just listened to the whole CD which I BURNED. Not too impressed. No one song grabbed me and made me feel the music. She sounds like Billie Holiday at certain points. And now knowing her drung problems her song “rehab” sounds ridiculous. She definately should not have said “no, no, no”.

You US folks have a lot of crap artists out there that ruin the market an oppertunities for other good artists. It is noticable that American artists aren’t dominating the European market at the moment, which is a good thing. Also for you US folks, since you woul never have Amy Winehouse album’s release over here if there weren’t any significant changes compared to 3, 4 years ago.
Amy first album Frank wasn’t released in the US because there was not one promomtioncompany that saw a market to promote a hip hop crossover jazz album made by a white girl.
And for the music taste comment, i’ll bet i have a better music taste than yours, all Europeans have :P.

And for everyone who thinks Amy has a drinking or drugproblem: She stopped smoking weed 2 years ago. She’s not on drugs, the coke/crack pictures were fake, this was confirmed by Amy’s A&R who publiced the original picture that was sent to the agencies.
And for the drinking: i think you need to listen to Rehab a few more times. She doesn’t have a problem with drinking, she is depressed because she split with her back then boyfriend (she also split up with her last boyfriend a few weeks ago) and as a result of that she has been drinking a lot. She could stop anytime with drinking, she just doesn’t want to.

ms. amy winehouse. i’ve been loving her for about a month now. the british music scene is definitely where it’s at now. i have her cd back to black and i really love it, i recommend it to everybody. now that you’ve said it she does sound a bit like lauryn hill…oh yeh, had me go back and cop the miseducation of lauryn hill…throwback. anyway, the song “i’m no good” had a version on ghostface cd more fish…dope too.

I like her music, its different. I wouldnt have thought she sounded like that.

The fact is Amy Winehouse is one of the best, most talented, most gifted artists out there right now. ‘Back To Black’ is THE best album @ the moment.

So all of u going on and on about ‘Oh, she’s white, she’s being hyped up’… put your prejudice aside for 35-40 mins and listen to an absolutely fantastic album.

Been listening to her since her first album but this album ranks her in my top 5. For all those making comparisons or pointing out similarities in her and Ms Hill you’ll enjoy hearing her live version of He Can Only Love Her. She does alittle Doo Wop (That Thing) snippet at the end. I never even thought about Lauryn listening to Amy but the more I heard the comparisons the more I noticed alittle similarities.

I don’t like how critics say she like Lauyren Hill.That’s not true.They should focus on her success more instead of commenting on ‘personal’ problems. I’m not that much of a fan of Bey.And I think she’s a wonderful person.But I believe Amy is more soulful than 75 percent of black artists out there today in the industry. Her music is about something. I find it absolutely hilarious that you can sit on your ass and say US acts aren’t dominating the European charts at the moment. The biggests acts for 2006-07 that’s touring right now are in fact our acts. Madonna, Justin, Beyonce, Christina and Pink are slaying you guys. Rough and pretty, her music speaks to my old soul. I really love this album and has not been able to take it out of the CD player since I got it… She is very original,,, I compare her to no one, she’s got her own thing right now!

the “me n mr. jones” track is intended for nas (as in nasir jones). there r a number of hints, including the reference to slick rick, who is commonly compared to nas. also, she describes her so-called love as a “black jew.” finally, toward the end, she says, “mr. destiny 9 n 14,” which is nas’s b-day. I think the song says more of her love (and heartbreak) for hip-hop than of any single person, or artist, though she makes clear that she’s come to expect more from nas.

I have been pumpin her damn cd. I must say i’ve become an instant fan. I cant remember the last time, I llked someone so quickly. And its not cuz of the “hype” its just cuz in my opinion, her music is the shit. Very soulful. But i saw a clip of her being drunk on stage, though it was funny as shit, she needs to get some help. Why is it, that so many TALENTED/RARE artist usually have some kind of drug/alchol issue?

Her voice is very different. Really grows on you. However a lot of her music is remakes of old stuff like Tears dry on their own is clearly Marvin Gay Ain’t no mountain… (listen closely to the music). Still she is unique and a great vocalist. Sad that they say she’s an alcoholic though. Hope she overcomes this.

If music knows no color, then why didn’t White America want to hear the true pioneers of Rock n Roll: Fats Domino, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and Bo Diddley. I love amy and i’m just so addicted to her since the first time I heard her voice. I don’t think she should be compared to anyone. She has a unique voice and I love the topics she picks in her songs. Her music is so light and at the same time so painful. Lauryn Hill is great too but Amy winehouse is hypnotizing. Joss stone is cool but I think she makes music to sell while Amy is so spontaneous about her music, it’s candid, she just pours her talent in her songs. At least she’s not getting greedy yet…
