I’ve always thought that there were certain people blessed with the talent to write an amazing song, and I think Ne-Yo is one of them. Although I’m not particularly fond of his voice, he always knows what to say in a song. His melodies, harmonies over the fly production that he always seems to have blend so well. And I guess the fact that Jay-Z threw a little cameo on “Call Me Crazy,” which is slated for Ne-Yo’s second single release. I’m digging the song, again, it gives me a little bit of Michael Jackson. Ne-Yo and Lloyd are channeling the King of Pop pretty well.

I’m always laughing my ass off when people claim he’s an amazing songwriter. NeYo is good, but “amazing” and “gifted”? Please! When dude can songwrite as deep and India.Arie or Jill Scott, we can talk about “gifted songwriting”. Until then this is just quite good mainstream songwriting.

I love how everyone is accused of biting MJ when if MJ is the “god” everyone claims him to be, he’d still be hitting it out the ballpark the way Madonna still can. Quincy Jones was MJ’s backbone. Certainly MJ wrote a large portion of his songs, but without Quincy’s adept producing, MJ wouldn’t be MJ.

I think Ne-Yo has yet to show his true writing skills. He’s writing to stay paid and stay commercial. When he finally acheives enough success he’ll get up the courage to write a truly deep song. He’s still young. Give him time.
