EVE COVERS GIANT MAGAZINE
Wednesday, March 28, 2007
Eve is on the cover of the April/May 2007 issue of Giant magazine and she did not bite her tongue at all in the issue.
The raptress covered everything - from her sextape, to her vanilla ex-boyfriend, to why her T.V show was really ended, and her feelings on the current state of Hip Hop…
On the sextape leak:
I was hurt by it, but what kept me calm is the fact that it was my boyfriend. Not that I wanted people to see me having sex, but it wasn’t like I was getting gangbanged - that would have been crazy!
On her relationship with Guinean dictator, Teodorin Nguema Obiang & dating other races:
I’d rather not talk about it. We met through mutual friends, and we were together for three years. It was a good relationship…I’m going to love who loves me, and if I’m attracted to a person I’m attracted to them. I’ve had black men, especially industry types say to me, ‘Oh, I heard you were dating someone white? No, but if I was, it would be my choice, so stay out of my business. They don’t like when I say that to them though
On why ‘Eve’ was taken off the air:
There was a lot of politics going on at UPN with the black sitcoms and with Will Smith’s show [All of Us], so I had a feeling we weren’t coming back. There are no guarantees in television, and they don’t even give you a heads up. The show ended two seasons shy of syndication eligibility and was sold to TV One.
On the current state of Hip Hop and her future plans in the industry:
For me it all started with [D4L’s] ‘Laffy Taffy.’ When I first heard that song on the radio, I just knew it was a joke, but then I kept hearing it. Every artist has the right to do what they want, but I don’t believe in making that kind of music. It’s disposable.”
“Hip-hop is in cardiac arrest, but I think it’s revivable. it’s not that I’m so profound, rhyming about when Jesus came down or anything, but I take the time to sit down and make sure my words come together so they sound right and flow with the track. I think a lot of that is missing
Eventually, I want to completely move into moviemaking because it is a pretty stable life. Music is unfortunately, getting crazy. I mean, rock stars don’t even have longevity and music is just - hip-hop, especially - so…superficial.”
“There’s nothing special.
There’s not one hip-hop artist that I can say is special…There are some that are definitely better than others, and that’s my personal opinion, you know? But if I had a child, I wouldn’t let them watch TV, and I would not let them listen to the radio. As far as the videos go, and all that.. I just can’t.

I enjoyed reading that. I read on wikipedia that her new album suppose to drop sometime in September. Don’t know if that’s true because alot of what wiki says tend to be made-up or lies. But I wanna buy this magazine. But I don’t know a retailer nearby me who sales it. So I don’t know if i’ll be able to buy it. That’s why I thank concrete loop for providing excerpts from the magazine. Thanks again. Peace and God bless!!

I’ve always favored Lil Kim and Foxy, Eve was always number three to me. With Shawna and Remy ma in the game she might not even be number 3 anymore! She’s made some nice contributions to rap, but I don’t think she done anything so great that she needs to be too critical of anyone else. She looks good though.

A lot of honest statements were made here, especially the last part. You would be surprised how many hip-hop “artists” do not let their own kids listen to their music. For what? They know it’s poison. It’s easier to harm/ put someone else’s child in harms way than it is your own… On another note, if her show ended 2 years shy of syndication, does that mean no residual checks… Wow! Yeah Eve, maybe it is best you keep busy. I still like her though. It won’t take much for her to make a comeback.

I love Eve. she talks a lot of sense here & she crazy too :”, but it wasn’t like I was getting gangbanged - that would have been crazy!”
gotta love the girl. i think what she says about the state of hip-hop is fairly accurate but she shouldn’t underestimate her talents. although the subject matter & content of her lyrics have never been particulary deep i think there are only a couple of female emcees who can match her flow, swagger & delivery. she one of the few rap artists who can rap but sound articulate & intelligent yet hood at the same time, kinda like Jay-Z. good look to her.
if shes getting that white meat then all i can say is tuck in girl-that shit is tasty as fuck & we all know that no matter how delicious black meat can be its ultimately usually bad for our health.them dudes do us wrong.
btw i don’t think this photo has been edited (much). she does look gorgeous but she also looks pretty much like how her off shoot photos look. GO E-V-E

I like Eve but what she is saying is very condescending. For instance, I agree Hip-Hop is very superficial but so is society. It’s a shame that it had to transcend along w/ the world of T.V but how else would most of these artist get the attention (sell CDs) to the teenagers that are glued to MTV and BET. Which are the same stations that aired all of Eve’s videos and interviews.
On the topic of her dating white is her choice but she can’t say that didn’t help her in her rapid transformation. She changed style, appearance (Hair, Makeup & Nose), not to mention her vocabulary. She can’t tell me all that wasn’t influenced by her dating someone that is considered a dignitary. It’s nothing wrong with an upgrade on style or having a now mature level of fashion but it all goes back to art imitating life that imitates art. We as humans will cling on to what is popular and trendy.
Basically, what I’m trying to say is she can’t throw stones when in light she is doing the very same thing w/ herself. TRANSFORMATION

I like Eve, and her style. And I liked the TV show too. But I think she is contradicting herself by saying, she’s not gonna let her child listen to rap, watch videos and other crap. Children are gonna be children, if you don’t let them explore the real world, they will be green to it. You just have to teach them about it and let them know whats real and whats fake. And the do’s and dont’s. POINT BLANK

The last statement is so True I am guilty of allowing my son to watch videos but I made a change when he said “I can’t wait until I get in middle school I’m gone have all the girls” I asked why he said “because I have hazel eyes and I’m a flirt” The moral of the story is people make mistakes but there is always room for change so I wish Eve all the Best for caring enough to Change. Hip Hop is Dead. As long as the industry continues to put out fake thugs gangsters and murderers the industry is dead. They need to bring back the true artists that spoke about something to show these jokers how it is done.

I agree that some hip/hop, rap songs are strange (make no sense at all), but it’s funny that Eve says she won’t let her future kids watch tv or listen to the radio. Madonna is said to exercise strict control of what her children read, watch and listen to.
That’s all good but very ironic that some entertainers known for rough or sex-laden lyrics, pics, movies, etc. get out and do their thing and if OUR kids see it, too bad. Then, those same people make sure that their children are not influenced by the “bad” stuff out in the world. What they fail to realize is that a hypocrite never has a safe hiding place.

I could care less about her sex tape as you can see some people didn’t even know about it.
I also could care less about what race she dates.

You are ignorant as hell… and you obviously have a problem with your racial identity. I am in no way against interracial dating, but to make blanket statements like that is really foolish. Its no wonder that you have been done wrong by black males — you probably get the bottom of the barrel. Thats probably why you want to bleach your skin and become white, so that you can get that “tasty as fuck” white meat. You are not classy at all.

…i was giving my opinion which as i have stated repeatedly i am entitled to. what is ignorant is people like you throwing the word “ignorant” around as if you actually know what it means. when a person gives a view that you disagree with you instantly label them “ignorant”. you dont know me so how can you claim i have issues with my race?i love being a black woman, i love our rich & vibrant culture from the achievements of our forefathers to even less noteworthy aspects such us our contribution to popular music and culture.you dont know who i have dated so you are in no position to be claiming that all i get is the scraps. if you could actually read, i said black men are USUALLY bad for our health. i didnt give out a blanket statement relating to all black men but merely stated from my own opinions (admittedly based on personal experiences, those of friends & family & what i have garnered from reading on such issues). i stand by my OPINION that black men USUALLY (transalation for you=OFTEN) do us wrong. if you disagree, fair enough but there is no need to be bringing up that tired bleaching issue. you thought you could get some cheap points & bash me by bringing that up but to be honest it just reveals you to be classless & trifling.
For the puposes of the futherance of your education (and believe me you do come across as ignorant ) let me provide you with a definition of that often misunderstood word:
IGNORANT=lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated
i hope you have learned something CaliEsq and for you or anyone else who continues to attack me or threaten my life in general let me just say; your attacks reveal more about your own sad lives more than anything they might say about me. it must give you real pleasure to bully someone on an internet blog merely for stating their opinion.

The tape in question is the one during her stripper/hooker days performing sex acts with a woman, but has the nerve to put down on rap music? She didn’t have a problem with rap when her stripper ass was broke. She would have crawled right up that pole to Laffy Taffy. Her show was cancelled because it was garbage.

One thing that never fails to surprise me is how people won’t let other people change.
Here we have a sister who did certain things in her past, but has outgrown that and matured to a point where she KNOWS that the behavior she used to exhibit is unbecoming of a young lady who wants to be responsible. You would think that EVERYONE would be happy about her transition from “pitbull in a skirt” to the lovely Eve that we see now..but noooo there’s always gotta be some hater who refuses to let EVE get past her past mistakes.
Honestly, anyone who feels the need to point out what she did in her past is a crab that can’t get past their own past and refuses to let others do the same. And not being able to get past YOUR own past is why YOU aRe stuck in the game, and trying to make sure others suffer the same…lames.
I’m proud of my sister Eve..i WISH more black folk would move like she has. (male and/or female)

Big ups to Eve. She actually mirrored comments by Chuck D about rappers not being special. Back in the day, most fans could not rap like Big Daddy Kane, KRS-1 or Rakim. Now most fans can rap better than d4l, crime mob, young joc, etc. Thats why sales are down—there’s no incentive to buy records from people my cousin can out rap. I’d rather cop a instrumental mixtape and hear myself over a hot beat.

Everyone has a past but the fact is Eve was taking shots at groups. It’s one thing to make a general statement about the music industry but to name names is out of line. Speaking the same music industry that made her who she is. Most of the people that buy these artists albums that she speaks upon have bought hers as well.
It’s as though she feels she is the one to revive the as she puts it “Cardiac Arrest” music industry. In my opinion she was hot then and has made too many changes to herself to gain the same loyalty from all her fans. We have seen these same changes from many minority artists and actors before. They gained that so-called street credibility and once they make it big they shun their own peers and the same industry that made them who they are.

I am feeling you on Eve’s hyprocracy, in the fact this is the same”superficial”, “materialistic” chick who dated an African dictators son, and let him spend millions on her over the past “3 years”, while his people in his country are poor and starving, and then she talks about her sex tape, and totally shuts down about dating a white guy, common, she need to keep her shit straight. I am not hating on Eve by no means, but with Hip-Hop comes street credibility, when you start to put your personal business out there in the wind, either defend it, or just don’t damn comment on it if you don’t want to be called out! I am not impressed with the interview personally. It just showed me how iffy Eve is from the jump off. I am actually a bit depressed, hence, she was and still is one of my favorite female rappers.

Eve said she wouldn’t let her kids watch television nor listen to the radio….I’m confused about the point she’s trying to make because some of her music has ‘cuss’ words and the whole nine. So will she ban her kids from listening to her music too? I like Eve but she’s kinda contradicting herself. She doesn’t have a perferct past(strip dancer) and hip-hop gave her a chance so why is she talking ‘down’ on hip-hop instead of trying to ‘uplift’ the state that its in? My point exactly!!
