20 Y.O. was a mess, but say what you want about Janet, she has been in the bizz for over 20 years. And, she is looking beautiful on the cover of Vibe Vixen (yes the clothing is a super duper upgrade.lol). So, she’s photoshopped. So what? She’s filming a movie with Tyler Perry right now (co-starring Jill Scott). Looking forward to seeing her on the silverscreen again. I wish people would give her a break. It’s less frequent now, but for awhile there, it was the trend to bash Janet. WTF? She is a sweet person. She has kept herself in the spotlight on her own accord. She is an awesome performer and one of the most successful recording artists of all time. I agree that she needs to move on from the sexpot image not because she isn’t sexy or beautiful, but because she has given us this already and it is time to take it to the next level. I think musically she is spinning her wheels a bit because she has suffered so much backlash from the media and industry, but in all honesty who wouldn’t be if you were put a similar situation. At one point an entire nation was ready to tie her up at the stake like a modern-day witch hunt. That is a lot of weight for any person to carry on their shoulders…when before that she never even had a career slump. Her recent album was decent. It was on the level of other albums from the current “it” girls, but it wasn’t her personal best. It really didn’t demonstrate any personal growth compared to previous work. As a mainstream artist, she is still among the best of them in my opinion. I just think she needs some time to get her footing again. It’s just a shame that as she works out her kinks, everyone who should be supporting one of the most successful black artists to date is instead kickin’ her while she’s down. I’m hearing rumors that not only is she preparing to sign with a new label (apparently she has several offers), but that she is still proceeding with her tour (I’ll be there!). She has always been a hard worker and I’ve got faith she’ll get her musical career on the upswing again whether it be on the charts or in a more creative direction (or both).
