In the big scheme of things. $3 Million isn’t much in Hollywood. I love the fact that she is sticking to her beliefs. No matter how we may feel it is stupid it is good to see someone with morals. I have done a few little things here and there in the entertainment world….and I turned down my first movie after being cast on the spot because I read the entire script and it involved a sex scene that was somewhat out of place and demeaning to women. I was not involved in the scene but the fact that it was in the movie and I knew folks from my hometown (Chicago) would watch it and I did not feel comfortable knowing that my little sister and other children from my neighborhood would watch it and associate me with the movie that had the inappropriate sex scene. Now don’t get me wrong sex is beautiful and so is nudity but only when it is done in a classy way. I don’t want to see black women all on their knees doing anything unless it is praying. Just my 1 cent.

This is a testament to her character and maturity level. This is not a should or shouldn’t - this is her CHOICE. There are a ton of people that are being critical of her because she has a personal belief system, and she stands by it, and she’s authentic with it, and based on that, she has made her stance, at whatever cost.

She is making her decision known ahead of time, and she can go forward with that. There was a comment that was said that if she plans on making it in Hollywood (comment 14) that she should rethink her decision. Frankly, if the purpose, pattern, and plan of her life includes her blowing up in Hollywood - Nothing will stop her. There are innumerable white actresses that have chosen not to disrobe (and not play in movies as such) and are successful as a result of it.

What is the point of her profiting off of something that she is not comfortable being a part of.

This, to me, means that she cannot be bought for a price. That doesn’t mean that I knock anybody who does choose to do a nudity scene, or be in a movie that includes nudity scenes - but this is something that she has chosen not to do.

And I applaud her for being incredibly strong in an era where most people submit (either by force, (contractually or otherwise), to what other people want them to do.

This is very good news to me.

2. We’ll see how long she can hold out once she drops music and she’s not appealing to the video eye. It takes more just your fans - you need to appeal to people and unfortunately, she has an unappealing look. What makes a person BIG (like Beyonce, Britney (yes, Brit), J.Lo, etc.) is that when you look at them, you want to look and/or be like them. Jennifer’s an inspiration, but no one wants to be her.

This is a testament to her character. This is neither a right nor a wrong to do. This is her CHOICE. Her belief system is what she holds steadfast to, what keeps her alive, and what makes her who she is. To compromise that (based on her intrepretation of what she should and should NOT do) would be absolutely tragic.

Someone had mentioned above that if she plans on making it in Hollywood, that she needs to rethink some of her decisions. Actually, if the purpose, pattern, and plan of her life is to make it in this industry, nothing will get in her way. In fact, laying down her ground rules now will at least allow for a dividing line both literally and figuratively.

There are innumerable working actresses and actors in Hollywood, (no matter what gender or ethicity) that have their boundaries. We cannot be critical of a decision that she has made based on her comfort level, no more than we can be critical of her if she had made the choice to do it.

Most great decisions made (that are sometimes the subject of high criticism) are the stuff that legends are made of. After all, if there are 99 people in white and one in red, the one that will stick out is the one in red.

What some of you folks have to remember is that acting is an ART form and sometimes that means playing a character that is absolutely opposite of one’s true character.
Sometimes that means being nude, having intercourse.
Sometimes that means playing a homeless person or using profanity or being a terrorist or a crackhead.
Folks like Samuel Jackson, Angela Basset and Halle really love their ART therefore they aren’t intimidated by playing a wide array of controversial characters in each of their films.
I applaud Jen for her work and nearly cried when she won her Oscar, but I think she’s better geared toward singing.

If am being asked to be in a movie with men kissing, I would do the movie because I know that comes with the territory. Now if I had been asked to perform an act myself, be nude or kiss another woman etc. or if the movie were pornagraphic that is a different scenario but that isn’t the case. I can see where you are coming from I can’t understand why people can’t see acting is a job but there are definitely certain roles I wouldn’t do if I were an actor. But, to say Cuba Gooding Jr. shouldn’t have played mentally challenged is to say Jamie Foxx shouldn’t have played blind in Ray. I can understand an actor not taking a role because it personally doesn’t appeal to them, but to claim that they aren’t doing a role because they’re trying to bring morality to the film industry is just ridiculous.

Films are not about morality. Sure, some may have a moral message, but the industry itself has nothing to do with morality. Film is art. Art transcends morality. Art has the license to depict everything that’s good AND bad with our society. Art asks questions. Good art gives answers.

Art is above morality. Art questions morality. Censoring it by saying “I’ll only kiss white women” or “I’m not doing it because somebody naked is in it” is no different than censoring art. It’s like covering paintings because they portray nudity or violence. Intellectual immaturity at its finest.

Not only that, but some people don’t seem to grasp that, when an actor takes a role, it’s no longer the Actor. It’s the CHARACTER, and the characters actions does not at all reflect on the actor’s on moral fiber. The actor is simple the canvas for bringing that character to life on screen, and nothing more. It’s like when people come down on Halle Berry’s role in Monster’s Ball for “degrading herself”. HALLE wasn’t degrading herself. Halle’s CHARACTER was degrading herself. Actor’s play ROLES, and roles portray PEOPLE who reflect the goings-on of real life. Nudity happens in real life. And if Jennifer Hudson can’t grasp that fact, then as much as I love her she’s never going to make it as a serious actress in Hollywood. But different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

Hence why I said that it’s one thing for her to turn down a role because it doesn’t personally appeal to her. That would be a case of her acting by charge of her own personal moral code. It has nothing to do with Jennifer loosening up. I don’t care if she takes a role or not. What bothers me is this sudden idea that her not taking this role because there’s nudity IN the movie puts her on some higher pedestal than other actors–when really it’s a petty stance and one that works more towards censoring creative expression than liberating by applying some extremely relative concept of what’s “moral” and what isn’t (which is why seperation of church and state is a perfect concept. Morality is fluid).

It reminds me of a time when showing films with racial undertones was taboo and considered “immoral” because it exposed tensions that people were uncomfortable with.

Yes he’s a decent actor, but I know you remember a show from HBO called Def Comedy Jam and remember him starting out on it. I know people can change, but just cause we saw him getting pulled over for supposedly being late for church on tv doesn’t equate him being somehow more respectful as an actor.

I also find issue with your opinion that Cuba is some way morally flawed because of a role he choose to portray on screen. It is very judgemental and backwards for you to think that because he PLAYED a role in a movie that somehow it translates his secret desire to LIVE the role. I guess a man kissing his son goodnight before tucking him in is somehow perpetuating a subliminal message to his child that advocates homosexuality, or two male friends who kiss on the cheek (as many europeans do) express hidden desires,right? All that being said, the reality of the situation is that Jennifer does have the right to choose, but I don’t think she chose this path due to her convictions, but rather because of the hype people have put into her “hype box”. How can she do anything that would cause her a backlash after so many people have pegged her as the Butter Queen of Mayberry, especially when compared to the likes of “that other woman”, which I think is totally unfair to her. She didn’t go on American Idol to become a gospel singer, but rather a pop star, just like she didn’t become an actress to portray a nun in Sister Act 12. To be a player in Hollywood you must be flexible and just because you get paid monetary compensation doesn’t make you a sinner. If she wants to play a nun those roles are out there, but trust me…nobody’s watching!

Nudity is not bad, we have just been made to believe that something about our naughty bits are deplorable.

However, Hollywood does distort nudity, specifically female nudity. It’s only the women in movies that are required to show their Grand Canyons. Since most movies are greenlighted by White men, then they ultimately decide whether or not a woman’s going to be seen without clothes.

I don’t believe J-Hud said that because she hasn’t said anything on the totally self righteous tip since becoming public. She’s playing the role of nice girl, but not over doing it with a bunch of high morals speak.

Unfortunately, there are not enough opportunities for African Americans to be well represented on screen. If you think about it, there have been a rash of movies, in which other people’s lives are portrayed lately (Ray, The Last King of Scotland, Ali, Dream Girls, Pursuit of Happyness, Last King of Scotland). We need to have a greater represenation showing the dispersion and ordinariness of Black life, as well as the buffoonary movies and “re-inactments”.

But there are paradoxes and contraditions in our lives. In other words, for 3 mi$$ion, I probably would have held the camera on my icebox myself!

Some of these people are so money hungry that they would say anything. It’s sad you would sell your soul to the Devil for money, good things come to those who wait.

From what I hear, the rumor is false, but even if it isn’t, we don’t know one thing about Jennifer’s future or her life. It kills me when I hear, “She won’t get past her 15 minutes of fame, blah, blah, blah” like somehow we have a crystal ball and can see into her future. Sometimes I get the feeling there are people who want her to fail. Sad.

According to some people’s belief, she should just take a role just because it’s offered. Too much is made out of nudity. It doesn’t always have to be something to look down on. It’s not like we’re talking about porn. But nudity and sexuality in general has been so frowned upon in society that we now have to be ashamed of the human body itself. Go fig.

If you approach acting as a craft and not a job, you need to consider the overall worth of the film too.
