STERLING SIMMS: MY JUMP-OFF?

sterling.jpg

Name not familiar? Well, Sterling Simms (who has been famed “R&B Rookie of the Year”) has been grinding for a while now and was recently featured on Jay-Z’s latest album on one of my personal favorites from the record, “Dig A Hole.” Since I’d taken such a liking to that song, when I found that Sterling would be coming out with his own album, I was expecting a lot more from his material. Instead, he released a somewhat offensive song entitled “Jump Off.” At first, I was hoping that he was going to be talking about a party being a jump-off… but oh, no, he’s talking about a female. I don’t know, I guess I just expected a little more, especially with it’s mediocre production. Either way, Sterling premiered a (low budget) video (which was actually literally recorded right down the street from my house) for the single sometime last week, which features Sean Paul from ATL’s Youngbloodz. Check out the video after the cut…

Even though I’m a tad bit disappointed, make sure you check out Sterling on MySpace

  19. Timmy

NEVER HEARD OF THE SONG, I WILL PROBALY HEAR OF IT IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS. CHI IS LATE WITH EVERYTHING!!

  21. richy

this song is fairly old now.. glad the video came out

  22. Caribbean_Gem

The song is ok, but I’m tired of these rappers/ r&b singers disrespecting females. “Jump- OFF” everybody likes the song but they do not know the real meaning. Before you start singing every song that comes out on tv or on the radio make sure you do your research first. Every song sounds the same. We need some original songs. I’m tired of hearing of “bitches, hoes, bling bling, money, thug life, drugs, and sex”. Cant I hear a song that leaves these subjects out what about some of the old love songs. The songs of today have no substance. Don’t get mad at me people. I am just stating my opinion!

  23. LACE FRONT TYRA

    I agree….Especially the Song…..

    “OUTSIDE PEANUT BUTTER, INSIDE JELLY”

U can make a song about anything now a days!!

    Snozzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Is there no originality in the music or video. Str8 followers. Y’all know that white exec’s in rec companies (including the owners of BET) let the disrespectful stuff get through.

Also, I think rappers are sell outs if they use profanity in the music and the only way it gets played on the radio or shown on tv is to either bleep/overdub. It they were true, they would say “hell naw, you ain’t changin’ my stuff, mufuckaz”.

But we all know the best friend of Mr. White, his name is Mista Green, is more powerful.

    Nezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt

  25. dva

yeah, internet wise…this song is old. but this song is HOT. i don’t think it is offensive to anyone…it is universal to any gender who has a “jump off”…it is the best reference of a “jump off” since jo budden (whatever happened to him anyway??)…this song is definitely a club/car banger and sean paul topped it off…just enjoy the fact it is a non-complexed song (you would if you had a jump off – LOL) the video is low budget though…i’m sure it’s not his fault $$$

  26. new yorker

he looked sexy in shades and therefore i will play this song in rotation. good looks can get you far, so sad but so true

  27. thatguy k

    Wow….Ushere meets Ne-Yo, SERIOUSLY

  28. LACE FRONT TYRA

speaking of USHER, I THINK HE HAS TAKEN A LONG ENOUGH BREAK.

  29. David

That’s a damn joke. Ain’t nobody called him the “R&B rookie of the year” lol.

He can sing tho. But that’s a JOKE

  30. Babycheif_fl

#3 said…WHATEVER, IM SICK OF PEOPLE COMING OUT OF THE WOOD WORKS!! TRYNA DO THEY THANG

Why??? Cause you sitting behind a computer screen ain’t doing shit???

  31. Ebz

I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE THisss song. It is mad old thou. But i lovvvvvvvvve it

  32. yes

    oh i’ve heard this before

nobody wants to be in a real relationship anymore

  33. I LOVE THIS SONG BUT IT IS KINDA OLD…..HE JUST CAME OUT WITH THE VIDEO I THINK HE CAN DO GOOD IN THE INDUSTRY HE HAS TALENT

  34. JuJu

I heard this song on the radio, but I never knew who the singer was. I always turn it off as soon as he starts singing. I didn’t even know Sean Paul was on this song.

  35. Kimmi

    lmao@ #35

i think the song is okay…BUT HE SEXY ASS HELL. HE CAN GET IT

  36. The industry is running out of ideas, no wonder hip hop sales were 21% lower last year and the decrease doesn’t stop.

Who gives a damn about how good he looks? People are so easily impressed. Shieeeet Cassie looks nice is she original? And I’d be damned if I “gave it” to a fucktard who sings about his jump-offs. NIGGA FUCK YOU!!

Those bums are tired, I didn’t even listen to the song because his looks and subject scream RECYCLED GARBAGE. Same image and same degrading lyrics. SAME FORMULA.

R&B and hip hop are losing buyers and that’s not something I’m gonna complain about. Shit like that don’t deserve no chance and exposure. And while yall bitches be flopping Norah Jones is selling over 15 millions of every album out. Respect that!

  37. imaboss_fupayme

I agree wit 27…I’m sick of niggaz coming to me wit that shit. I ain’t no mufuckin jump-off folk! Men constantly disrespect us and think that shit is cute. I know ya’ll talking that “it’s just a song don’t take it personal” shit, but songs are what influence so many people now. Art imitates life baby so don’t get it twisted. So fuck you very much sterling but no. Take it back and try again.

  38. phillydon

women needs to stoo bitching about rap/r&b songs being disrespectful . that’s how it is so live with it . these niggas deal with plenty about smuts in the industry so they make music about what they know, seriously can u vouch for the superheads and carmen bryans , if u don’t like the song don’t listen to it and if ur offended it means ur what they talking about.

  39. MsNic

Am I the only one who thinks he sounds like Usher???

  40. Tam

Say what yah want….he’s definately a Cutie though ;)

  41. Ms. Truth

I hate the song. I have heard in on the internet a few times and I always skip to the next song. It is offensive to women and I will not jump on the bus to follow the pack.

    HATED IT!!!

  42. darkandgorgeous

I like the song but i have to agree with y’all weve lost originality now every1 sounds the same.

  43. Honest Truth

Please!!!!! He gotta step his game up. Been there and heard that!

  44. This song is not even LATE…it’s TARDY!

  45. Atl_1987

I’ve been wondering to myself for a minute now why so many chicks like this song! Do they not know what a damn “jump off” is?? Ignorance really is helpful to celebrities…

  46. l's did it

its not new that music with substance is a rare find, but my biggest complaint is why everyone from the A sounds the same. betcha b.cox got a track or two on the album that will sound just like ride for you, circle, we ride or that sammie joint.

the’ve been touting this dude up for months but i expected more than a familiar beat pattern, loop track & lyrical content. sadd, as i digress!

  47. They play that song all the time where I’m from and I don’t too much care for it. I really don’t listen to songs like this. Especially if the name of the song is “Jumpoff”. I don’t wanna hear all that. He could’t find anything else to sing about?

  48. Mel

I was just finna say not another rapper before i read singer…He sounds pretty good though, and yes he sure does look good…Woooooooooo! lol

  49. hood_shit

I’m gonna keep it positive- I like Sean Paul and I like the name Sterling

  50. TeTe

    lmao@#35

its cool.something to bump in the car…..people know what a jump off is.females arent the only ones who can be referred to as one

  51. Krystin

Okayyyy! .. for one the beat is hot. However im not feeling the voice at all. Anyhwho in that Jay-Z song he was basicly screaming. lol but nevertheless “Dig A Hole” has a hot beat.

  52. kenyanpebbles

THROW SALT OVER YOUR LEFT SHOULDER omy danm, your comment is so funny made me laugh.

  53. We’ve already been up on this song…its been getting radio play. I like the song though, its kind of crunk. And SeanPaul always gives a tight verse on any track…

  54. Baby doll

I like the sound of the song but not the message who the f**8 he think he is forreal. ANd the stupid girls in the video bouncing to this like it something to be proud of. I can’t remember who said it but they where right black girls are the most disrespected woman in the music industry. They always shakin they a$$ to something thats degrating them. All for that dolla!

  55. Aria

I heard this ignant-azz song late last year. At first, I thought it was Usher…but even Ursh has more class than to sing a song asking some random broad to be his jump off.

Overall, though…ole boy ain’t impressing me.
