STERLING SIMMS: MY JUMP-OFF?

sterling.jpg

Name not familiar? Well, Sterling Simms (who has been famed “R&B Rookie of the Year”) has been grinding for a while now and was recently featured on Jay-Z’s latest album on one of my personal favorites from the record, “Dig A Hole.” Since I’d taken such a liking to that song, when I found that Sterling would be coming out with his own album, I was expecting a lot more from his material. Instead, he released a somewhat offensive song entitled “Jump Off.” At first, I was hoping that he was going to be talking about a party being a jump-off… but oh, no, he’s talking about a female. I don’t know, I guess I just expected a little more, especially with it’s mediocre production. Either way, Sterling premiered a (low budget) video (which was actually literally recorded right down the street from my house) for the single sometime last week, which features Sean Paul from ATL’s Youngbloodz. Check out the video after the cut…

Even though I’m a tad bit disappointed, make sure you check out Sterling on MySpace

women needs to stoo bitching about rap/r&b songs being disrespectful .

^^^ That’s like saying blacks need to stop bitching about discrimination and racism. Had people thought that way we’d still be sweating in THE MAN’s cotton fields to this day. I love how some men wanna tell us to shut up. But when we don’t say nothing then “we allow it”. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. That’s society’s machist mentality at its finest.

  7. LACE FRONT TYRA

    lol at #35.

    U ARE A FUNNY NIGGER!!

  8. nishauna

    ummmm sean paul

if y’all don’t like the songs why y’all shaking ya asses toevery song in the club. it kinda remind me of that chris rock special when he spoke on that issue it’s almost like y’all enjoy being disrespected. if sterling came off on some nicey nice shit y’all would say he was corny , niggas act that way cuz that’s how girls like to be treated.

  10. PHILLYDON you are wrong, if that was the case, if that’s how girls wanted to be treated why do women bitch about it? Why would the Spellman women be against what Nelly did? Think about it. Some youngins pay more attention to the beat first, but that’s not how most girls wanna be treated. As far as I know Usher doesn’t talk about jump-offs and neither does Justin Timberlake and they’re topsellers. And contrary to popular belief, Lyfe Jennings and Anthony Hamilton ARE ALWAYS PLATINUM, that means selling more than most R&B acts. You’re stereotyping women! How would you feel if I said all black men strive to be thugs and pimps? Wouldn’t that be ridiculous considering that brothers complain about it just like we complain about songs like these? That’s what we see on TV and hear on the radio but it doesn’t represent the millions and millions of us, brothers or sisters. The media really brainwash yall, not to mention black people hardly ever buy R&B and Rap anymore because of those very stereotypes.

    #44 I’m wit ya….

This video got no originality..neither did the song. i didnt even finish watchin cuz it was dead boring.
But luv Sean Paul on da song.
    And Sterling is cute btw..

  12. ASTERISK

I heard this song a while ago on the radio in my city. Once i heard it, I called my friends and was like.”Have u heard this shit?. NIGGAS!” To me more than the message being tacky, its not creative, these are suppose to be “artists” and whoever wrote the song couldnt think of another creative way to describe a woman, you wanna use the word BOYS use to describe women in urban areas in America and then try to appeal to women in ur music?? BOY STOP..this shit is so generic.. and the video is low budget..what kind of jumpoff is he gettn with that? Them Free 99 janks

  13. r2007

    # 73…here is ‘JUMP OFF-101′…a ‘jump off’ is a casual sex partner w/no strings attached(a recyled partner/not a one-night stand)…it is universal, so any gender can have a ‘jump off’. yeah, it does fall into the whole pre-marital sex category, BUT if you stay protected, have an understanding w/ your ‘jump off’, and are single (you don’t have to be in a relationship)…a ‘jump off’ is what is poppin after the club!! I LOOOOVE THIS SONG RIGHT NOW!!!

the song means no disrespect…it is JUST A SONG…this will not be the last song w/o any real substance..every song shouldn’t be “We Are the World”….get over it people!

…again, whatever happened to Jo Budden??

  26. sharonda

    @meika…neyo is on minority report..smh

  27. sharonda

lol never mind y’all already corrected meika

i think the song sucked…usher wouldn’t even pen down this garbage

ummmm i was looking at some videos on yahoo and i came across this video.i didn’t even want to look at it.i knew he was a cutie but if he has nothing to offer but his looks i’m definitely not interested.i think the cute face phase has passed because i can’t seem to find quality music i enjoy even if its soul or club type music.really i don’t think they would play this ish in the club.i’m starting to not give a damn about who and what is out today

  28. Your Moms!

    SAME SHIT
    DIFFERENT NIGGA!
[all these lil' guys sound the same, act the same, look the same, dance the same, & rock the same bitches in their videos.]
It’s like: Ray J, Usher, Lloyd, Chris Brown, all wrapped up into one~
And, I’m soooo tired of hearing their dumb ass songs about the fucked up shit they want to do to chicks. I’m over it..geeeze! They talk about the same bullshit. Using girls, they want to use you & bang you. Or chicks are bitches & they just want to ‘F’ you. It’s tired. I really wish they would find something a bit more interesting to sing about. It’s always about Pleasing them. Most of ‘em are unattractive anyway. Or, short as fuck! They look like fricking simple, retarded ass Trolls. They better thank God they have money! That’s the ONLY way they’re pulling the girls they get. Fuckin’ Tricks!
And, furthermore, Who is this Nigga’ anyway?~

  29. Anika

He’s cute. The song is boring. But he’s got nice vocals. I think that I have found the formula.

Release a song with a club beat. Dish out MAD money to pay a top rapper, IE: Jay Z, Ludacris, Kanye West, or whatever rapper is “the it rapper” at the moment, to be on the track. Get someone like Timbaland or Jermaine Dupri, again dishing out mad money, to produce the track, and shoot straight to number one!!

Now, once your single has hit number one, you can either keep your album in this field, or you can take it back, sound original and get MORE respect, by making your album old school sounding. Which is personally what I would do. I’d have one track new school. the first single. get me alot of airplay, and then make the rest of my album old school sounding.

  30. meka

He can jump off with me anytime he gets ready. OOOOH

  31. meka

I want him to beat it up until im speechless
