THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW

Beyonce - Still In Love (Kissing You) (full) - download
Why would Beyonce re-make this song? This is one of my favorite songs from the original motion picture soundtrack “Romeo + Juliet” when Romeo and Juliet meet in the bathroom. I don’t know, Beyonce’s voice sounds great to me, but I don’t really like the fact that she re-did this song, and people are going to think it’s her own. This is going appear on the re-release of the special edition of “B’Day.” There will also be a video for it.

Timbaland feat. M.I.A. - Come Around (full) - download
Love M.I.A., love Timbaland - and I’m glad they worked together. Although this was left off of the United States retail version of “Shock Value,” it apparently is a bonus track on the UK version of the release. Although the beat is not anything particularly spectacular, it really does fit in with the progressive/rock feel that the album pretty much has. Can’t wait until “Shock Value” comes out on the 3rd.

Robin Thicke - S.O.S. Baby (full) - download
Oh yes, I love this. You know how I feel about Robin Thicke’s music, and how I feel about most Neptunes productions. So the two combined really just does something for me. “S.O.S. Baby,” although not a complex song, has a really nice sound to it. I love how Thicke’s voice just floats all over the track, he always sounds so effortless to me. This song really goes hard, I’m digging it. As usual with productions by The Neptunes, the bridge is my favorite part. Although, I will say something seems a tad unfinished about the song - it’s missing a little something. Is there a new album in the works?

Trey Songz - It’s Songz, Snitches (full) - download
As promo for his new album, “Trey Day,” due out sometime this year, Trey has been rap-singing over many popular tracks that have come out over the past year. I don’t know what’s going on with the progression of his album, but the latest single, “Wonder Woman” was really hot. Maybe Trey should think about putting together some kind of mixtape before the album comes out, considering he’s been doing so much stuff like this lately.

I do remember the song that Beyonce sings from the motion picture, “Romeo + Juliet”. It’s a pretty song and I think she did a pretty good job with it. I loooooove the Robin Thicke joint! What I like about Robin is that he doesn’t have to try so “hard” with his singing. He’s a simple yet talented singer. The song is smooth and mellow. I’m feeling it.

Brian people do remakes all the time. Whitney’s biggest hit was a remake. Most of Luther’s biggest hits were remakes. Some of Mary J. Blige’s biggest hits were remakes. This isn’t uncommon.

I really like the song.

I didn’t see Romeo and Juliet to hear what the original song sounded like, but the song is quite boring and dragged out. I can see it working in a movie with a scene but by itself, it sounds too slow. I can appreciate, though, that her vocals are nice and smooth on it.

Ummmmm….not feeling the Timbaland song at all.

Once again, feeling this song by Robin. He is on point and happy people are starting to recognize his talent.

Passed on Trey.

I LOVE the Des’ree version from Romeo and Juliet, but I gotta say i like Beyonce’s spin on it. And she might just have a writing credit b/c the majority of her version is different from the origional (except maybe 3 or 4 phrases). That was hot…

Damn, I love Songz, but I really think that the version that Swizzy did was maaaaddd hot, I don’t think that his flow fits it as well :/

The Timbaland & MIA is a nice chill track, I was expecting something more hype, knowing both of them, but it’s nice nonetheless.

That kissing you joint from Romeo and Juliet was the heat, immediately after going to the movies and seeing it, I went out and copped the soundtrack just for this song and played the hell out of it-beautiful song!!!!!!!

I haven’t listend to bey’s version yet, but I must say that I know I will be critical because I love the original version so much.

Give people more credit, people will know that this song was originally on the romeo and juliet soundtrack, so what she did her version on the song-that’s what artist do all the time-these rap artist stay taking samples from old r&b hits all the time.

#26–You’re looking for the original ’90s?

You mean the same ’90s that MJB re-recorded “I’m Going Down” and “Sweet Thing?” The same 90s that Xscape recorded “Who Can I Run To” and “Is My Living In Vain?” The same 90s when Whitney recorded “I Will Always Love You” and Mariah recorded “Open Arms?”

Please. People do remakes. It’s cool to not like Beyonce. She’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but you are reaching with this argument.

Beyonce did a good job, not bad at all.

However, if she does take writing credits, I hope that she says that she CHANGED some of the melodies or ADDED the lyrics. She better not go around saying that she actually WROTE that song cause then people will really tear her down….

in actuality brian, this is more of a sample, not a remake, beyonce song sample some elements from desiree songs(in terms of melody),other than that, the lyrics and arrangements are different. bottomline beyonce killed that song, her vocals were on point.after hearing this song, most these R&B female artists need vocal coach asap. Of coz beyonce is entitled to her writing credits for effort(smart girl)

36.

IBDAMNED

Thursday, March 29, 2007 /

Beyonce is a talented girl, but she CANNOT hold a candle to the original version of KISSING YOU by DES’REE…Des’ree makes your heart ache and you truly feel her love and pain when she sings that song…Beyonce’s version is just too extra with all the runs and adlibs and ish…the fact that Des’Ree was able to keep the song so basic but still have such an amazing impact to the listener is why her joint will always be her joint…good try though…where is my Romeo+Juliet Soundtrack? Hmmmm….

Timbaland feat. M.I.A - WACK, some folks aren’t suppose to be artist, timbaland is 1 of those folks, he should just stick to producing.

Robin Thicke - nice, although this has been out for a min now.

beyonce - beyonce killed this song, y’all r&b chicks need to step your game up.

trey songz - love it, but he should stick to singing

oh no! this Beyonce cover is a tragedy! The original was sooo much better. and, like you, I can’t stand knowing “fans” are gonna think this is hers and that it’s superior to the original which it clearly isn’t. It’s not all that bad but it’s just…not Des’ree.

and Welcome To Hollywood sounded so ugly without Jay. It literally sounds like someone cut and paste parts together. Not cool. It sounds so empty and half-assed, even if Jay’s rhymes weren’t his best on the original track. *sigh* she should have left these “filler” songs on the cutting room floor and brought “Creole,” and “Back Up” out for the re-release.

Ok the original “Kissing You” was one of the greatest songs I have ever heard, no doubt.

I’m Beyonce’s BIGGEST fan but I’m not sure how I feel about the remake. I would have liked her to stick closer to the original.

People are ragging she will take credit for this…
Well copyright law says if you change a work by more than 15% you have a NEW WORK. And she chopped and screwed the hell out of this song, so it’s hers now.
Not sure that I like it though….

OMG am I losing my STAN cred???

I’m really feeling all this Tim stuff I’ve heard. This song is cool but it sounds like it could get annoying after awhile. I love RObin Thicke so just about any music from him is welcome. I especially love him with Neptunes beats. Trey’s song is nice too. I love his voice period so whatever he does, singing, rapping, a combo, is cool with me.
Beyonce, on the other hand, should have left that song alone. I absolutely LOVE the original version of it by Des’ree. It is beautiful, from the lyrics to the arrangement and nothing about it ever needs to be redone or touched. Not feeling it whatsoever

Beyonce’s song sux. im not a hater. im a realist… Des’ree OWNS that song… yeah B rewrote the majority of it… but it took away from the beautiful simplicity of the original. it was over done, she tried to ad words to every melodic orchestration and thus, ruined the song.
