Ronald Isley and wife at the Soul Train Music Awards this weekend in Cali.
Since a lot of people were wondering why the hell Ron Isley was at the Soul Train Music Awards and not sitting in a prison cell – I will take it upon myself to update you.
As most of you know, his tax evading self will not serve the full 26 years he was sentenced to. His January 2006 sentencing was postponed until the end of August of this year, where he will supposedly only serve about 37 months.
That’s why he is still a free man right about now. His lawyers argued that because of complications from a stroke and a recent bout with kidney cancer that he shouldn’t serve the full term. Etcetera, Etcetera…
Good Job Ron! You didn’t pay your taxes for over 10 years, cashed checks in your dead brother’s name, and you only have to serve 3 years (maybe less). Meanwhile if my ass would have done the same thing, I would be in jail for about 20 years. Gotta love celebs!

Anyone with an effective attorney would have received the same deal. When you can afford good attorneys, you receive much lighther sentences, if anything at all.
HERE IS A PIECE OF ADVICE…
If you are ever in trouble, HIRE a private attorney. This semester I externed in the Public Defender’s Office for course credit in law school. They do not have the time, experience, or resources to effectively represent defendants. Furthermore, most of them are buddies with the Prosecutors so they are more inclined to negotiate terrible guilty pleas so that the case does not go to trial.
Gotta love our justice system. It works only for those that can afford to pay!

I love Ron’s music, and his issue with the IRS are his own problem. But, cashing his dead brother’s checks is just down-right funky. I am glad you spoke on that. People need to understand that Ron Isley and the rest of them have been performing since people had conks and zoot suits (since the early 1950′s). That is an eternity in the game. Sure, he has done some crooked things and is facing charges but name some celebrities at the top that didn’t. Entertainment is a dirty business and it’s survival of the fittest. They don’t call him Mr. Biggs for nothing. People need to check his resume before passing judgement…

who ever made the checks out in his dead brothers name knew he was dead, his brother gave Ron power of attorney so he could cash the checks. His income tax problems more than likely came about because of putting all his trust in some snake in tha grass to take care of his bread instead of keeping an eye on it himself. White people been getting away with tax evasion since law. Taxes were made for blacks, not whites. White people find a way not to pay legally, but blacks just havent found that loop hole yet.
