i’m from the UK & thought i’d give my view on this lady.
the UK has 10 a penny of females like this but she gets noticed because she lost alot of weight & she’s been to “rehab”. now don’t get me wrong she has talent but i fail to see what is so stand out about her. don’t let the English accent & the tea & crumpets fool you.

I think some of the excitement on this side of the pond arises because at the moment there seems to be a lack of good singers/artists. And when I say good I mean talented. We are innudated with ignint (not ignorant, ignint) hip-hop (No one cares why you’re hot) and talentless svengali produced pop (what the hell is a Danity Kane anyway) that when someone like Amy Winehouse comes along we have a tendency to latch on for dear life.

The problem is not that Amy is white, she has talent, but the problem is that she’s overrated because she’s white. White people are considered geniuses for doing something decent or average just because they’re white. Joss Stone has been called the white Aretha Franklin, Amy is now the white Lauryn Hill, yet those white people don’t have half of the talents that the people they supposedly “replace”. Joss Stone’s voice is not THAT powerful, and Amy’s songwriting skills are elementary school-ish compared to Lauryn.
If you wanna support them, you’re free to do so. But people need to quit comparing them to black artists who are far beyond them as far as talent is concerned.
