Beyonce IS better than the rest in her class, but is that something to be proud of when the people in your class is less than mediocre? My favorite is Get Me bodied, its fun, it looks like a real video and it made sense - it actaully had something to do with the song (this is rare for Bee now-a-days). These videos turned out to be quite entertaining. I was a little concerned that they would suck considering there needed to be a budget big enough to produce 10+ videos. But now, with the internet, especially blogs, haters and even the casual detractors, can feed their obsession with an artist by:

1) running from blog to blog reading all the posts about that artist (it’s obvious to see why blogs feature Beyonce — no other artist today generates as much traffic);

2) viewing every video clip posted on YouTube and linked to on various websites;

3) clicking from site to site and venting on how much they don’t like that artist;

4) comparing that artist to every artist in the musical universe for some reason (most are artists they don’t really know anything about or have their albums, they just want to compare — i.e., they’re Bandwagon Fans);

THEN — WAIT FOR IT — THIS IS THE KICKER:

So to try to say she is overexposed is funny because the same people that are tired of her will post a discussion on anything from “Are those her real eyes” to ” Did she get a nose job”. People that can’t stand her stay in these blogs and post comment after comment bringing someone they don’t “like” down instead of spreading love to artist they do like. That just doesn’t make sense to me! The girl makes these videos for fans that appreciates them, not the ones that will tear them apart. She releases music for people that want to hear her music, not the ones that can’t wait to hear another song they can joke about. Beyonce is needed in music to serve a purpose for the fans that enjoy an artist like Beyonce, just like Alicia, Jill Scott, Ciara, ect…..all very different, but all fulfill something for every type of fan. Remember the scene in “Baby Boy” where B was dancing in the club with everyone….I expected something like that. Simple but with really good dancers in the scene to hype it up (like Sean Paul’s video “Get Busy”). And I love the extended version of the song, but dammit if all those dances weren’t corny as hell.

Is it just me or would anyone else like to see a video that acutally has a storyline that follows the song? These are okay, but how many different ways can you dress up beyonce, change her hairstyle, and chane her makeup? I miss the 90’s when videos actually represented the song and were not just another beauty editorial for the artist. DIL was filled with quality music and no one can deny that. i personally enjoyed b’day and when i’m in a dancing mood, i put that ish on and when i’m going to sleep, i listen to DIL. she’s put out quality music with DC. it’s not always about being so deep cause not everyone enjoys that. she’s only 25 and this is only her SECOND SOLO ALBUM. people act like she’s been out with 10cds and is still doing the same shit. everyone has room to grow and she’ll grow. as she gets older and gets into marriage and kids, her music will evolve. it’s how it goes! she said herself she wanted to have fun with this album and that’s exactly what she did. besides, i’d rather have her put out b’day now than her put it out 5yrs down the stretch.

I definitely agree, Jazzy. So many of these artists claim to be doing things that are creative and different, but most of the creativity is spent on picking outfits. I really like Beyonce, and I think that in terms of singing, she definitely is one of the best out of the artists with a mass audience, but it is so frustrating when no one is really stepping outside of the safe zone. I think her next move is going to be trying to learn an instrument and incorporate that into her live shows. I heard an interview recently where she said she was trying to learn to play the guitar well. Also, when she was on TRL recently, she really tried to stress the fact that she was holding a guitar in the Green Light video. We’ll see. Like I said, I like her, but I just wish she would be a little more natural. If you want to add that additional layer to your musicianship, great. Just tell us that you’d really like to do that one day rather than trying to send subliminal messages that you’re holding a guitar. I don’t know, sometimes I really like her, and sometimes she really frustrates me. I still can’t wait to hear her live at Essence this summer though.

Green light: I’m on the fence about the actual song, but I do like the video. The striped dress looks fab on her.

Suga Mama: It was straight. Again I’m on the fence about the actual song.
