WHITE BOY SINGING “AND I’M TELLING YOU..”

Friday, March 2, 2007

Check out this video of this white dude singing “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going.” Homeboy can blow! I think Jennifer Holiday would be proud.

This is what he had to say on his youtube page:

im a white boy, singing a very black song, wanted to know peoples response, excuse slight nasal sound, ive got a cold at the min…joy :)

[YOUTUBE SOURCE]

After the cut is a video of him singing “A Change is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke

Shout out to Mizz Sassy for sending in the link!

Nice voice but I hope everyone doesn’t start making this song an anthem that they sing to showcase their voice. He was ok I’ve heard better.I love the song but come on now. I’m getting tired of it. Man Youtube and Myspace are making celebs out of straight web videos. Dang let me go and get a camera. LMAO

You mean in this day and age people are still getting all giddy over white people co-opting our music? Will the new Elvis please step forward.

ONE OF MY BIGGEST PEEVES IS WHEN PEOPLE SING A SONG AND DON’T EMOTE THE SONG. I DON’T LIKE WHEN PEOPLE SING A SONG JUST TO SING IT WHEN THE SONG WAS CREATED AND INSPIRED FROM A CERTIAN EMOTION. IF YOU SING DONNY HATHAWAY, DON’T SING IT LIKE A FUN SONG B/C IT’S NOT. THAT MAN EXPERIENCED A LOT OF PAIN AND THAT ‘S WHERE HE PULLED IT FROM.

“AND I AM TELLING YOU” IS COMING FROM A WOMAN WHO NOT ONLY IS BEING ABANDONED BY HER FREINDS BUT BY THE MAN SHE’S LOVED FOR YEARS. IN ADDITION TO JUST FINDING OUT SHE IS CARRYING HIS CHILD. THAT’S WHY IT’S SUCH A STRONG SONG. THIS DUDE CAN SING BUT HE IS LAMING THE SONG UP A LOT. HE’S SINGING IT LIKE A FREAKIN LOVE SONG. THAT IS SOO WACK TO ME. THAT’S WHY MARY J. BLIGE IS SO CONNECTED TO HER FANS. BECAUSE SHE HAS FEELINGS BEHIND HER MUSIC. WHETHER IT’S LOVE, PAIN OR DISAPPOINTMENT, IT’S THERE.

EVEN GOSPEL MUSIC HAS THAT EMOTION. COME ON PEOPLE, LET’S NOT SETTLE FOR ANYTHING LESS.

I like his rendition of “and I’m Telling You”.

He’s not even really trying to “blow”, but he just sings the song very effortly and understated.

He Did a really great interpretation.

Now, When he did his version of “A Change is going to Come” You could realy hear his Amazing Vocal Qualities !!

Fantastic Range !

He’s the the NEXT American Idol !

Now I think he sounded great singing “J.Holiday’s” song, he put his own spin on it…nice job.

He sounded slightly alright “Sam Cook’s” song, I love me some Sam and this guy can’t compare with sam, none the less he did ok.

AND it kills me that people black and white, are always throwing the race card in crap! Music is music…it all depends on where you grow up and what kind of music you were raised around!

I guess the people in here think he should sing some country music just because he is white, give me a damn break!

There was this white boy that sung the same song on 106 & Park and he sounded much better. You can see his videos on youtube too. I forgot his name though. anybody remember it?

You see how influential black people are? If you watch T.V shows such as American Idol and X Factor you can see it when the white people try sing all soulful and shit. Most of them just look like and sound like fools tho. Black people should be proud.

Friday, March 2, 2007 /

omg this video is sooo annoying. i understand he wants to sing it a different way but he sounds retarded rushing stuff together & crap

28.

elisa

Friday, March 2, 2007 /

im sorry but when he sang that Sam Cooke song it was so very annoying because he ruined the song with all them got damn runs if you hear sAm cooke’s version it is very smooth and soothing this dude tried to freakin hard with all the runs throughout the song and i hate when people do that because the song then loses it’s emotion…….PEACE

29.

darnell

Friday, March 2, 2007 /

I wish men would change the appropiate words to make the song fit them . It was first sang by a women . Common sense would dictate u change afew words being a man and all !!!!!

30.

nishauna

Friday, March 2, 2007 /

if he went on american idol they would find something wrong with him like they did jennifer and Tamara gray and countlless others

31.

La Bella Mafia (HBIC)

Friday, March 2, 2007 /

^^^ he could be gay so why would he change the words.

i think he sounded good though he had a cold. even some professionals can’t sing while being sick. i’ve only heard some ppl (aguilera, mariah, whitney) sing while sick and kill it at the same time. good job to him

@ 18 i agree with you. i hate when ppl tell me that i’m whitewashed just b/c i listen to rock, country, techno, etc. along with hip hop and r&b. black ppl already forgot that we were the originators of rock music and we let white ppl tell us it’s “white music” as well when it’s not. it’s a shame

32.

hood_shit

Friday, March 2, 2007 /

not bad but this “singing a very black song”…. see thats that dumb shit! people should really be more cognizant of how they word shit

Come on you guys let’s not use the race card for every damn thing. It’s just a song, it ain’t like he’s singing ‘We Shall Overcome’ or something.

But Whiteboy need to tryout for Idol. He kind of on the hefty side but hey Ruben won. Plus Idol is making so much money they can set him up with a gastric bypass surgery. He’ll be big at the beginning but by the finale he will be a whole new person.

Black people copying white folks… here we go again w/ the same old song.

First off, I’m discouraged and disenheartened by MOST music today.. rap is not thought provoking or feel good music in the manner in which it was in the early 80s-90s…everybody wants to be hard when they’ve worn a shackle a day in their lives…

I truly believe that black people are wasting the rights that were fought so hard for and died for by our ancestors, in the vain of Dr. King and Malcolm X… They are probably rolling in their graves. We appear to take everything for granted…

Being intelligent isn’t black… intelligence is for the white folks… it’s time to stop settling for welfare scraps and barely getting by… it’s time to stop perpetrating and blaming or attributing everything to race… honestly it’s not about that …and if anybody is failing else or leaving us behind …it’s US… it’s time to get real and jump off this race bit… yes we have a long way to go, but the really hard battles were fought for us… the least we can do is go to school and not act like fools or at least try to get an education… I don’t care what he sings… he has a talent, give it up for him.. but also give up all this race talk, b/c it’s pointless, none of us have been slaves or had a water hose turned on us in Birmingham… our struggles are not so much their struggles (the struggles of our ancestors/struggles w/ whites)… man can’t stop you…believe in a higher power… or just believe in yourself or both… but stand accountable and save the “dramatics” thx ddub

Why oh why does it always have to come down to white people stealing black people’s music. The young man likes to sing, and he so happens to like to sing Jennifer Holiday and Same Cooke. SO WHAT. I thought music was supposed universal. Because he’s white does that mean all he’s allowed to sing Barry Manilow? Give it a rest

63.

YA HEARD IT FROM ME

What is singing black or singing white? yet I don’t hear many of u saying anything about Eminem crazy non rappin azz. If the boy can sing, he can sing and sing what the fugg he wants to sing. I like white music and I’m black and I absolutely hate rap music and I’m still black. Same folks that’s talkin about this white guy singin r the same ones that luv Robin Thicke, now does that shyt makes any sense?
