So since I wanted to change things up a bit, I decided to dig up 4 things we all probably didn’t know about Golden. You will be surprised at what you learn.
1. Earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology (with a concentration on “Media Representation of Minorities”) from UC-Berkeley, where she minored in Theater. She went on to earn a Master’s degree from Sarah Lawrence College.
2. She is a classically trained dancer, both studying and teaching ballet, jazz and modern dance.
3. She was a figure skating competitor and won several trophies when she was younger.
4. She voulunteers with the Pediatric AIDS Foundation and AIDS Project Los Angeles.
I was actually surprised to learn that she is a classically trained dancer. Come on Golden, you have to be doing this on purpose. You concentrated on the Media Representation of Minorities and you’re coming out the house looking like a broke-down black barbie? Something isn’t adding up!
She should try out for NNTM!!!

@57 well your right. Having good looks helps all the time with:
1) getting a job, especially if your going to an interview.
2) getting into the entertainment industry…….if your ugly people are gonna bash you ie. j.hud & fantasia
3) especially females, picking up guys.
And I could go on. We do live in a shallow world. I mean the superficial things always have to count. If you are pretty everyone loves you. If your ugly, poor baby.
#63. No one said that. I mean how you PRESENT yourself. Not your physical features. You can be the prettiest, most accomplished, Ivy League scholar. If you present yourself like a HAM. Bet your bottom dollar, you wont be considered for much.

I have a love/hate relationship with Golden. She cracks me up on Girlfriends, but she makes want to speak my mind when it comes to her looking a mess.

When ya’ll say golden looks H.a.m your talking about her physical looks and her presentation whether it be what she is wearing or the cosmetics she is wearing or her facial expressions lol.
You’re missing the point. You can be drop dead gorgeous, and STILL be a HAM. Golden is an attractive lady, but her stylings are all off.
Well its good to know that she is an educated black woman in hollywood.That means if the whole acting thing no longer works for her she actually has the ability to do something else. So many women in hollywood fall to pieces when their acting/singing careers are over, they have no idea how they qwill nmake money to support themselves.
\Now if only Golden could put alot more effort into acheiving a more polished look.

i don’t really understand what is so special about what she did? i know people who know 7 languages, have started programs for kids in other countries (and they haven’t even graduated high school yet), have written books, etc. All she did was go to college, take a bs major (b/c everyone knows that sociology is one of the easiest majors to take- if she was a sociology professor or had written some books then she would be really smart), skate around, and dance.
that’s the problem with black people. someone does something they are supposed to do and they are praised for it. so what? she wasn’t on crack, wasn’t a teen mom, etc. she did what normal people do, went to college. chris rock made a joke about this. he talked about how black men always say that they take care of their kids like they should be praised for it. you’re supposed to take care of your kids! have confidence in your race people b/c if this is what you consider accomplishments, then we’ve got a long wayy to go.

It sounds like a case of smart kid acting dumb so he/she doesn’t get teased for being smart. She probably got the “oreo” insults and started “acting” ghetto to shy away from that persona. Then the shit was no longer an act but her geniune personality. People of this leave of brilliance tend to be crazy. She’s obviously no exception.
I’m not surprised. Most actors have background in diverse fields as a back up plan in case acting doesn’t work out. I think both Angela Bassett and Sanaa Lathan are graduates of Yale. As far as how Golden looks, I hate to say it, but Golden reminds me of Whitney before her addiction got out of hand. Sorry, I’m just saying.

i was fortunate enough to meet Golden Brooks when i owned a drug store in Brooklyn. I had the store maybe a couple of years back around 1997 before the tremendous success that she deserves. One day in fact this un pretentious young woman walked into the store and wanted to make sure that a particular cream for her face was always in stock, i said well i will make sure…..she told me she needed it cause she was an actress and did not want to “break out” ….. when i looked at her she was so down to earth, that i was surprised when she named a few shows she had been in… of course i dont know if she had the success that “Girlfriends” ..but i did know one thing ………her smile brought out the sun that day when i think i remember it was cloudy……..and the sweet voice….that was so melodic………to this day the photos of her do not show one bad angle or one bad move or one bad pose she is truly a very beautiful woman……pharmacist Sunset Pharmacy Brooklyn
