ANIKA NONI ROSE TO VOICE ‘THE FROG PRINCESS’

Monday, April 23, 2007

frog_anika.jpg
“Dreamgirls,” star Anika Noni Rose has been chosen to make Disney history as the voice of the movie studio’s first black princess. The actress/singer beat the likes of Oscar-winning Dreamgirls co-star Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys and Tyra Banks, who all reportedly auditioned for the role. I’m really happy for her because she hasn’t been getting her fair shine since Dreamgirls was released. Go ‘ head girl!!

She beat out some big stars for this part and I’m so happy for her. FINALLY Disney gives props to black people and I’m glad they picked her for this.

GOOD!!! Considering that they treated her like a BALD-HEADED STEPCHILD with DREAMGIRLS! She was one of the BEST performances in that MOVIE and you hardly EVER seen her at any of the AWARD SHOWS and EVENTS. She deserved just as much PRAISE for that MOVIE as anyone else. So SHE BETTER WORK this next role. Get em Girl!

Im glad she got the part. She’d be best for. J-Hud’s vooice is too deep. Tyra is too (i think u already know). And A.Keys got that toughneess in her voice. But Anika was a BROADWAY ACTRESS so she knows a thing or two about performing.

PLUS, she can SING to the singing parts of the film. Her Acting was WAY better than Beyonce’s in Dream Girls, and yet, no one acknowledged her for anything. it was like she didnt even exist. So im glad she’s finally getting the chance to shine.

I havnt seen DG but I saw a clip of her in the movie and it was very entertaining.

She made me actually want to see the movie.

Which should be out on dvd, i think in May.

that’s very ironic being that she wasnt showcased much in all of the DG hype and publicity. She has spunk because she held it down at the Oscars next to Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce. She’s a star in her own right.

I will be following her.

She kinda reminds me of Kimberly Elise(?) from (Set It Off)

Well, good for her. Now on to this “black princess” movie. Shame it took Disney this long for it, its supposed to be set in New Orleans, and word is she falls in love with a European prince…I knew they was to good to be true. N E Way, the princess name is Maddie, and though I am excited for this movie to help with little black girls self esteem as small children, I think they are throwing us a bone. if i had the monetary funds to do so, i would have done it myself, too bad we had to wait on white folks….congrats anika

I agree w/5 she’s perfect for the role. Jennifer’s voice is too deep, Tyra’s too crazy, and I wonder if Alicia can even shake her NY accent. Its also a plus that Disney won’t have to hire someone else for singing. Nika’s a good choice but I am still skeptical about the movie. Hopefully this is one step towards the right direction.

Walt Disney the bigot!! Did anyone of you ever hear of the “Song of South” made in 1946 but I believe was never released in the United States. It is a depiction of Black people as inferior and a poor representation of Black plantation workers to say the least. It has been locked in the Disney archives and its 60th anniversary was last year but there was not much mention of it. A Disney representative stated that they are thinking of releasing the video. I first heard about this some years ago but maybe the issue may resurface as their is a petition for Disney executives to release the video.

Go Anika! I am so happy for her. She’s finally getting the recognition she deserves. She was wonderful in DG and it was very unfair how they treated her. Now she’s gettin’ hers.

Monday, April 23, 2007 /

YAY!!!! Congrats to Anika!!! She is well deserving of this role. It suits her, with her Broadway and other theather credits. Plus she is a TRAINED vocalist.

I am so elated that Disney has FINALLY created a black princess! I will be going to see The Frog Princess whenever it comes out!

I second #5’s comments. She is the perfect choice to play this character. She’s classy, humble, and beautiful inside and out. She beat out some talented sistas, but I think she was the best choice overall. I hope she will start receiving the credit that she most definitely deserves. Go on sista girl, go on!! ;o)

this is an important role so i’m glad they chose a truly talented actress. Actress being the operative word. These models/singers/wannabe actresses betta stay the phuck out. Y’all know Tyra would have been HELLA annoying. She would either have done her fake white preppy woman accent or she would have done her fake ghetto Bunifa accent. GO ANIKAAA!!!!!!!!

31.

LashoNDA

Monday, April 23, 2007 /

@ 28. Y’all know if Brandy hadn’t killed a bitch she would be doing this role. But its all good cos she’s focussing on her new album rite now and she don’t need to be combining that with acting. We all know what happens when Brandy tries to switch lanes………

Brandy was already Cinderella, so she probally wasn’t considered for that reason. I’m happy for Anika, she is a true talent. I thought for sure Alicia was going to get it, but I’m happy for Anika. I heard them Disney checks are phat! Go get that money girl!

34.

Monday, April 23, 2007 /

Go, Anika!

On another note, its about damn time Disney produced an animated flick with a black lead. Disney has stalled and done everything it could not to have to feature an actual black person in its animated films; ie Lion King.

Its about damn time!

I didn’t want Alicia for the role because the princess is a southern girl and I don’t think she could put off the accent.

LOL at tyra’s “ghetto fab” voice, and yall know her coonin ass would have made maddie a joke. I just wish this movie was set in Africa so kids could get a taste of african royalty and empires. Too many kids (and adults) think that Africa’s history started when we were brought to america as slaves, I thought it would have been great for disney to erase that thought. I mean they could have done the classic “Ada” story which it brazilliant and also displays Africa at a time when we were on top of the world.

Oh and those worried about maddie’s appearence, trust me she will not look like that by 2009. Its just a concept art, if you would have seen the lil mermaid in her concept art you would have thought she was busted too. Im sure they will white wash maddie to oblivion so that she is presentable to her WHITE prince by the time it hits the screens *rolls eyes* I would expect to see light bright skin, a small lil kim pixie nose, green to hazel eyes, and long golden yaky….um I mean “good hair”.

@#41 NATURAL MYSTIC

From a marketing standpoint, Hollywood bosses feel it’s smarter to go with a bankable (READ: recognizable) actors when it comes to animation
voice-overs. Especially for big budget features.

She was the cheapest

On nother note couldnt they have made the princess a little more pretty…compared to Cinderella, Jasmine, Snow White, Ariel….the Frog Princess look kinda fucked up…the nappy ponytail and all

And why does the princess the movie look like its gonna be in technicolor? judging by the pic

So what you’re saying you want the Princess to look…what…more WHITE? Your statement remids me of Liz Taylor all tanned up trying to play Cleopatra or more recently, Angelina Jolie playing a black woman in her own biopic.

She looks just fine, hair and all.

@ 17 pierrelt: Princess Jasmine is East Indian

I’m pretty happy about the new Black princess. I like the fact that she has curly hair, and knowing that finally a black person at Disney World/Land can audition for a face character without automatically being relegated to the Lion King show or playing Pocahontas (if she’s light enough).

i seriosly hope Maddy doesnt get “white washed” or i will be pissed. on some of the Imdb.com boards people were saying stuff like how come they didnt make her light skinned, mixed looking. and i was like wtf! Disney should make the black princess look black and represent so many young girls out there who want to be a princess too.

Much props to Ms.Rose I swear the way they did her n dreamgirls was sooooo messed up cuz she’s a waaaaay betta actress than Beyonce’s non actin ass. Shit that wasn’t even kool how she barely received any acknoldegment for her role and contribution n da movie. She killed it just as good than any one else. She was my favorite dreamgirl her role was like a combo of Effie and Deena with a spice of her own flava so I’m glad to see she’s doin well. It’s about time Disney made a black princess I mean damn 2007.
