“Dreamgirls,” star Anika Noni Rose has been chosen to make Disney history as the voice of the movie studio’s first black princess. The actress/singer beat the likes of Oscar-winning Dreamgirls co-star Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys and Tyra Banks, who all reportedly auditioned for the role. I’m really happy for her because she hasn’t been getting her fair shine since Dreamgirls was released. Go ‘ head girl!!
That’s good. Maybe she’ll get that spotlight finally. Co starring with Beyonce and J Hud wasn’t as smart of a move as she probably thought. Being that everybody pretty much overlooked her.

I’m pretty happy about the new Black princess. I like the fact that she has curly hair, and knowing that finally a black person at Disney World/Land can audition for a face character without automatically being relegated to the Lion King show or playing Pocahontas (if she’s light enough).
Good attempt by Disney, but they could have written the script so that she falls in love with a brotha instead of a white boy.
i seriosly hope Maddy doesnt get “white washed” or i will be pissed. on some of the Imdb.com boards people were saying stuff like how come they didnt make her light skinned, mixed looking. and i was like wtf! Disney should make the black princess look black and represent so many young girls out there who want to be a princess too.

Congrats! They made a great selection — she has a beautiful voice, both speaking and singing, and she’s very expressive.

She was my favorite dreamgirl her role was like a combo of Effie and Deena with a spice of her own flava so I’m glad to see she’s doin well. It’s about time Disney made a black princess I mean damn 2007.

I am so happy concreteloop finally posted something about disney first black princess. This story came out about a month ago, and I am happy that disney is FINALLY doing this.
I am also happy that anika gets to voice this character, but do not be fooled, this could do wonders for her career.
A disney movie will generate alot of buzz and certainly make alot of money here in the us and worldwide. Also the amount of money she could make from voicing this character is easily in the millions.

Anika was underrated in DG but the movie was not really about Lorrell, it was about Deena’s rise to fame and Effie’s fall from fame (and eventual comeback). Anika is talented and very spiritual (you should check out her MySpace page). I see good things happening for her, and I can hardly wait to see her in The Starter Wife this summer on USA Network in June. I think she would be a dynamite addition to Grey’s Anatomy too. Someone to cause some tension between Burke and Christina. Excuse me, I was a casting director in a past life. (LOL)
