I’m not sure “Talking to Me” was technically a hit. It was in limited rotation on urban radio, and I never heard it on pop radio at all. But maybe that’s just where I live. . .

In the Beyonce/Amerie debate, it seems to me that Amerie switched her style up quite a bit from album 1 to album 2. Actually, I remember my college roommate commenting on it, because she HATED Amerie (personally, I liked “Why Don’t We Fall in Love”) until “1 Thing”, and I remember we heard it in the car and she was pleased because she felt that Amerie had really stepped up her game. (sidebar: I LOVED her follow-up song “Touch”, but it never caught on for some reason).

But I think its ridiculous to argue over whose “style” was jacked. The style referred to is Rich Harrison’s. And unless you’ve got the money to hire producers to produce for you exclusively (like Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis did for Janet Jackson in the late 80’s/early 90’s, I think), you are simply buying a beat from them, right?
